“My worst technical interview experience” . While trying to switch, I interviewed at Coinbase for the role of SDE 2. Now, let me clarify, the issue wasn’t with Coinbase—it was my incorrect expectations and irrelevant preparation. I assumed it would be a standard DSA round, but it was a Q coding round. I didn’t clarify with the recruiter and wasted time optimizing a straightforward problem. The real test was applying OOP concepts and refactoring. 🔹 Why was this so bad → I could have done well if I had understood the interview expectations and not been stuck in the "Leetcode mindset." 🔹 What I learned → Always clarify what concepts will be tested in the interview and read about others' experiences to prepare. However, finding detailed interview experiences isn’t easy. Many are vague, and don’t cover the specific challenges you face. Zomato Quarterly Results are really insightful. Sales: 4,206 Cr Operating Profit: 177 Cr with OPM of 4% (doubled from last quarter)  & Net profit of 253Cr (125x from last year quarter) A very precious in-house company who went from almost bankruptcy stage to a profitable company. Though, need to see how much income is from actual Zomato vs Blinkit business. Also, expenses are still high, also P/E is not so good now but so nice to see the ups/downs of Zomato! #Paytm employees have taken to the Ministry of Labour and Employment after their unfair layoff without any proper severance package. We all have been reading the brutal layoffs news for the past 2 years; one where the CEO just shows up on the Zoom call to fire 80% of the company or where security guards show up after a conference and employees are escorted. In some cases, they find a legal loophole by forcing you to admit that there was a performance issue and putting you in PIP and thereby crushing your self-confidence and then saving some money by not paying their dues after firing you. There are companies that treat their employees like trash and expect the general public to buy the narrative of "We are a family". If an employee absconds a company then it is frowned upon in the industry, the companies scare you with a bad relieving letter or failed background checks in the next company and yet these same companies face no consequences when they happily ruin the financial and mental status of their so-called "family members". With privatisation on the rise it is high time that we all voice for better labour laws in #India so that people can work peacefully. Swiggy used RAG to build its in-house Text-to-SQL -- allowing all employees to make data-driven decisions faster. 📈 Here’s how they built the system end-to-end: Suppose a user types a question in Slack, like "What's the average delivery time in Delhi last week?" The query passes through AWS Lambda, where a function cleans and formats it before sending it to the LLM. The model then checks the Knowledge Base for metadata related to “delivery time”, which includes tables and columns relevant to delivery data. It identifies “average delivery time” as the metric and retrieves relevant historical SQL examples. Using Swiggy-specific metadata, it selects tables like Orders and columns like delivery_time. The model also uses few-shot learning by adding reference queries from similar past requests to guide the SQL generation. Finally the generated SQL query is run on Snowflake, and gets adjusted if errors occur. The final query output is sent back to the user on Slack. Users can rate accuracy, helping refine the model. When your revenue model is EXPOSED!!!! A recent post on Reddit by someone claiming to be a Zepto employee has raised some serious concerns about #Zepto. The post alleges that Zepto charges higher prices to customers using phones costing more than ₹30,000. It also claims that the app uses dark patterns design tricks intended to nudge customers into spending more money. Even more troubling, the the user says that customer data is poorly secured and that previous data leaks haven’t been addressed due to pressure to grow fast and satisfy investors. So, what's really going on behind the scenes at Zepto? Customers are being manipulated with dark patterns? Can we expect more accountability from these platforms when it comes to data security? This is not just a case of an unhappy employee, this could be a major wake-up call for the entire industry. I have nothing against Zepto but if they are really doing it then it's WRONG!!!! Recently, I appeared for an SDE-2 interview at one of the USA-based startup. In the VP final round, I was told that every developer works here from 11 AM to 12 AM, so I have to as well. I was shocked after listening to this, though later I declined the job offer too. They were paying a huge base salary as per the current market for an SDE-2, but that was not worth it to join at all, so I decided not to accept as I have also received job offers from other places. To all such companies, normalize work-life balance. Agar main itne time kaam karunga, tab paisa kis time kharch karunga. Insan hire kar rahe ho ya machines. Don't just run behind the base salary. While accepting a job offer, check all the below things of the organization: Quality of work WLB How are managers there? Company Culture Career Growth Opportunities Stability of the company Benefits and Perks Location and Commute How do you get to know all this ? Talk to current employees and ex employees Base salary might motivate you to join, but other factors will keep you going at the workplace. Senior developers can stay connected to the codebase, provide productive hands-on experience, maintain updated technical skills, and remain highly productive even without coding regularly. However, over time, not writing code or delivering key features can lead to a sense of moral high ground because they are not involved in meeting strict customer deadlines. On a personal note, I get little to no time to write code, but I ensure to contribute to at least one project per quarter, just for the love of it. It is one of the few job profiles that allows individual contributors to operate at such top levels. Making the most of it. Regardless, interesting read.

One interesting thing I’ve been noticing while using Uber . . When I book a bike or auto in the morning, the price stays relatively low, around ₹50, even during peak traffic hours. But in the evening, even outside peak hours, the price often doubles — and here’s the curious part 🤔: my phone’s battery is usually around 25-30% in the evening compared to 90-95% in the morning. Recently, I experimented by charging my phone to around 70-75% in the evening, and suddenly, the prices dropped again 🚪. I wonder if battery percentage could affect Uber’s pricing algorithm 📊. I’m not alone here—I’ve read similar observations from others 👁‍🗨. It raises an interesting question: is Uber considering battery levels to adjust fares? I wanted to share some unpopular opinions about layoffs and restructuring in organisations, especially in software. After Intuit announced their round of layoffs, there has been some confusion, freshers are panic again, and I've heard these opinions from some of the best developers and leaders in the software domain which might help you too. I wish to share them so you can also have this perspective in mind. 1. Cracking interviews is different from sustaining in an organization: Freshers, especially, are more focused on cracking interviews than on sustaining their positions. When a friend shared this with me, I felt this is something many don't realize about the software industry. Often, what you are asked in an interview is different from the actual work you will be doing. Embracing a love for technology and working towards the organization's goals is more important than just cracking interviews. 2. Your pay package comes with expectations: Many of us look at the cool packages and perks companies offer and assume that life inside is a fantasy. We often forget to highlight the hard work and responsibility required. If your package is high and you are not meeting expectations, it's likely that you will be out sooner or later. So, if an organization offers you a high package, it's time to celebrate but also to look at the responsibilities and challenges you should be tackling. 3. A right leader must know where to invest: Yes, people are important, but if one department is doing well in business and another is not or is on the verge of failing, it is crucial for a leader to make tough decisions to keep the organization running smoothly. Considering these facts would be a great addition to your software career. Yes, I do agree that what Intuit did in panic is not praiseworthy. Better communication, informing employees about their performance, and giving them a chance to improve would have been a better way to handle the situation. Again i haven't been in the leadership team shoes to comment on this. Just letting you all know my thoughts on how to take this up positively and learn from this.
