I come from a Layoff Batch 😞 (Tier-3 College) I didn’t receive a PPO from Amazon. I had to work a 10 AM to 7 PM shift 😬 (not counting the commute time) But despite that I never gave up. “My worst technical interview experience” . While trying to switch, I interviewed at Coinbase for the role of SDE 2. Now, let me clarify, the issue wasn’t with Coinbase—it was my incorrect expectations and irrelevant preparation. I assumed it would be a standard DSA round, but it was a Q coding round. I didn’t clarify with the recruiter and wasted time optimizing a straightforward problem. The real test was applying OOP concepts and refactoring. 🔹 Why was this so bad → I could have done well if I had understood the interview expectations and not been stuck in the "Leetcode mindset." 🔹 What I learned → Always clarify what concepts will be tested in the interview and read about others' experiences to prepare. However, finding detailed interview experiences isn’t easy. Many are vague, and don’t cover the specific challenges you face. My L4 SWE Google interview experience 1️⃣ The Referral I had sought a referral from a friend at Google to apply for L4 roles. 2️⃣ Recruiter Reachout The recruiter reached out after 2-3 weeks. I asked for 5 weeks to prepare. As I had cleared their interview in 2022 for L3, my phone screen round was skipped and I was directly moved to the onsite rounds. 3️⃣ 3 Coding Rounds and 1 Googlyness Round All interviews were precisely 45-minute rounds. 🎢 The onsite interviews: 1️⃣ Round 1 The interviewer asked a tree-based problem with 3 follow-ups. All solutions had to be coded with no bugs. Concepts involved were trees, bfs, dfs and merge sort. 2️⃣ Round 2 2 Coding questions were asked. The first question was based on DSU and the second on bfs/dfs. This was the best interview among all the rounds. 3️⃣ Round 3 2 Coding questions were asked. Concepts involved were binary search, bfs/dfs and priority queues. The interviewer was very particular about the code quality. 4️⃣ Googlyness Round The interviewer was candid but asked a lot of challenging questions about my work experiences. I tried to align my answers with Google's values as much as possible. 🎯 Result: I was informed that the interview feedback was positive but team matching took several months. I talked to around 6 teams before matching to one of them. I received the offer after a round of negotiations within 2 weeks. Overall, Google's interview problems were original and challenging, but not extremely difficult. If you have a good grasp of the basics and code regularly, you should be able to clear the loop. However, as my 2nd interview pointed out, nothing is off limits. You are expected to know all basic data structures and algorithms really well. 📚 Few tips for successful interviews with Google: - Make sure you clarify the constraints of the problem clearly before you start solving. L4 interview questions tend to be open-ended. - Try to arrive at the most optimal solution quickly. Don't beat around the bush. - Discuss your approach clearly with the interviewer. - Prepare well for behavioral interviews. It is fine to pause and think your answer through in behavioral interviews. Cracking PayPal after 7 years in my Software Engineering career was a great achievement ❤️! It felt like my lifetime dream of cracking top product companies finally came true in 2023. My first rejection - Google 💔 A lot happened in past two months , people often see the good side on LinkedIn but you never know what is someone going through in real life... I was fortunate enough to get an opportunity to interview for SWE Intern 2025 role at Google ... I was able to solve all problems in both technical rounds but ya some unfortunate events happened and some things didn't went well as I wanted... I was totally prepared. Gave mock interviews, left no topic untouched but yep life has its own plans .. I don't want to demotivate anyone reading this post... Google interviews are not hard .If you've been practicing DSA for so long there is high chance you'll be able to solve the problems during the interview... I’ve been 𝐫𝐞𝐣𝐞𝐜𝐭𝐞𝐝 by Amazon, Google, Oracle But this was the best thing that happened to me….. While interviewing for Oracle, the second technical round didn’t go as expected. 🙃 → I thought it would be focused on DSA.  But it turned out to be the opposite. The rounds focused on puzzles, database design, SQL queries, and project discussions too. Despite the surprises, I managed to take my learnings and performed better in the next ones. 𝐌𝐲 𝐩𝐫𝐞𝐯𝐢𝐨𝐮𝐬 𝐫𝐞𝐣𝐞𝐜𝐭𝐢𝐨𝐧𝐬 𝐭𝐚𝐮𝐠𝐡𝐭 𝐦𝐞 𝐭𝐨 𝐛𝐞 𝐩𝐫𝐞𝐩𝐚𝐫𝐞𝐝 𝐟𝐨𝐫 𝐚𝐧𝐲𝐭𝐡𝐢𝐧𝐠. 🌟 If you’re targeting a PBC, always be ready for "unexpected scenarios". In my 3rd week at Adobe, I was given a small task to work on so that I will get familiar with what the team is actually working on. It needed the specific system setup for working on that repo. I tried by myself and faced some errors. So I approached one of the senior SDE in the team. If he would have wanted to, he just could give me docs and tell me the commands to run. And what files to be changed in 5 mins and get it done. But he gave me all the required documents. And then asked to prepare the setup step by step. He asked me ‘what’ and ‘why’ at every step. What does this command mean? What does this framework do? What are dependencies? Why environment variables? What are annotations? If I didn't know something he would explain it to me thoroughly. He made me do it by myself but supervised throughout. He would say, your build is going to fail now, let it fail first, then I’ll tell you why it failed and how to figure out a solution to that. In this way he explained to me every command and “why” behind every tool we used for setup. He gave his 1 hour there but made me understand the whole stuff. Now I’m confident about that setup and use of the tools we used there. And I know how to approach the error we encounter. I understood the importance of knowing “why” behind every act. This was an amazing experience for me. So thought of sharing it with you people. Let’s study everything from soo basic that we’ll know the “why”, “what” and “How” behind it. My Interview Experience at Microsoft I applied to MS through a referral in April, but initially received an opportunity for a different team. Funny story, I almost missed my chance because I didn’t pick up the HR’s call, thinking it was spam! 😅 Luckily, I got in touch later, and the opportunity was part of a hiring drive. The HR informed me that there would be two rounds of interviews on the same day, followed by two more rounds depending on the feedback. Round 1: DSA Taken by a Senior Software Engineer This round focused on a DSA (Data Structures and Algorithms) problem, specifically a medium-level array question from LeetCode. The interviewer asked for the most optimized solution in terms of space and time complexity. In the last 10 minutes, I was asked some frontend-related questions. Round 2: DSA Taken by a Senior Software Engineer This round featured a medium-level topological sort problem. I initially approached it using DFS (Depth First Search) but got stuck while handling cycles, which can be tricky. The interviewer noticed my hesitation and suggested I try a different approach. I switched to BFS (Breadth First Search) and was able to solve it. Again, the last 10 minutes were spent on frontend questions. Later that evening, I received positive feedback, and the next round was scheduled for the following week. Round 3: Frontend System Design Taken by a Senior Engineering Manager I was asked to design an online ticket booking system. I followed the RADIO approach. We discussed various aspects features, concurrency issues during high-demand events (like an IND vs PAK cricket match), API contract design, technology choices, performance, security, A11y, i18n, and more. The interview lasted an hour, but just as I was beginning to relax, the interviewer asked if I had time for one more problem-solving question. Of course, I couldn't refuse 😅! I was given a LeetCode hard-level string problem. I wasn’t able to solve it completely—one case was left—but the interviewer was happy with my approach and solution. Verdict: Pass Round 4: Frontend System Design + Hiring Manager Round Taken by a Principal Senior Engineering Manager In this round, I was asked to design an email client. I again used the RADIO approach, and we discussed layout, API contracts, mail protocols, and various Outlook features. We also touched on performance, security, accessibility, and more. The round concluded with some questions from the hiring manager. A week later, I got the news that I had passed all the rounds, and they were ready to roll out an offer. That was a wonderful day for me! After confirmation, it took about two weeks to receive the official offer. How to prepare for an interview at Zomato - Recently a junior reached out to me asking how to prepare for an interview at Zomato We jumped over a call & had a great technical discussion from Coroutines to Compose, Kotlin to KMM, problem solving and a lot more. My only advice to him was when you start learning to clear interviews for a particular company you're preparing for failure. If you really want to excel in your career start learning about how things work internally, build cool stuff & share with the community. Building real shits will help you learn faster & becoming a better engineer. Strive for excellence & get better at what you're doing. Four things to take care of while asking for a referral. 1. Share your resume 2. Share the JobId which best suits you(double check if it is active and the location is atleast the country you reside in, US-remote or other positions need Visa) 3. Give a short reason explaining why you think you are fit for this role this is not mandatory but helps(this would give idea to the HR even without opening resume) 4. Residential address as workday somehow made that mandatory to submit. This save effort and time for both the applicant and the person referring you. Happy Job Hunting P.S: This applies to anyone and not just people asking me.

Today I gave an Online Assessment of Intuit for the role of Software Engineer I. This was an internal opening and I got a referral luckily. I was able to successfully solve 3/5 questions in 1.5 hours, and maybe I would have solved 1 more question if got only a few minutes more. But the reason why I am posting this today because I got disheartened after knowing that Solutions were being sold during the time of the Assessment on various social media platforms like telegram. Yesterday my friend who also got a referral told me that someone approached him on telegram asking him whether he needed help in the OA, obviously asking him money for helping. I am a 2024 pass-out from a Tier-3 and I have been continuously practicing Leetcode, GFG, Codeforces since almost 3 years. I may not be an expert in Coding but it hurts more when people cheat on Online Assessments and the deserving people won't even get a chance for an interview of dream companies. By saying this I am not saying that I am deserving but there must be some deserving people out there whose chance to get an interview was snatched from him/her by a cheater. The problems faced by students of Tier-3 colleges are: - we don't get referrals - if somehow got a referral, our resume don't get shortlisted because of our college tier. - after all this hurdles there are cheaters all around who cheat in Online Assessments. Finishing my thoughts I would just say I am not going to give up and I will still practice everyday in a hope that I would crack a dream company someday.
