We have adopted an approach that avoids sending the same standard quote to all clients. Instead, we prefer to discuss each client's training needs in detail and offer tailored solutions based on their specific requirements. Our approach is flexible, ensuring that every session we conduct is unique, even if it involves the same industry or similar requirements. While it would be easy to send the same quote, agenda, and presentation slides repeatedly, doing so would undermine the purpose of evolving training and development.

At the recently concluded #SHRMIAC24 #Delhi, organised by SHRM India, where I was truly inspired by the panel discussion on "Mindset Matters, But ‘Heartset Leads’ - Evolving Leadership for an Exemplary EX." The panelists, Dinusha Jayamanne, Bhanu Sharma, and Karuna Vempala and expertly moderated by Nitya Vijaykumar, delivered a powerful message about the future of leadership. This discussion resonated deeply with me, particularly its emphasis on vulnerability, empathy, and truly understanding our teams. Based on some true conversations with my mentees, new trainers & few old pals too 😀😀 Vendor/ Client: Send me the ppts, lesson plan, handouts for you to get shortlisted. And many a trainers do that too… to only face. Mr India (the gaayab client/vendor) as once you have shared what was asked they totally ignore your call/ text/ mails. Some ways to counter this: Ask for an advance Content, session plan etc. constitutes 70-80% of the session. Delivery is just 20%. Max time is spent in preparing this, so why not ask fees for your time & efforts. Share only what is good enough for the person to know your credibility & expertise & not pour out everything. Share watermarked content. It might help to an extent. Propose a demo instead of sharing content mentioning that demo will give a better understanding of your mettle than content which could be created by somebody else too. Happy learning 😀

What an awesome panel discussion on Future of Work by Sunit Sinha Akhilesh Tuteja Sushant Rabra Parizad Sirwalla Amit Patnaik Blessed to have spent time hearing you all and other speakers/panelists during the week. The story shared by Akhilesh about Worker Vs Turker was so meaningful, much like all the other stories he shared during the AI week. Quoting the key takeaway for the learning and development community here (AI generated :)) "Emphasis is on the need for continuous learning and upskilling to adapt to AI-driven changes. Interactive and gamified learning experiences are recommended to make AI adoption more engaging." And with the Crowdstrike impacting work yesterday, it became clear that whether it is tech or AI, we humans are not replacable. We will have to jump in every now and then to fix the machines/tech/AI. Also, AI needs to be used with discretion. We ought to make use of it as the "ground" or base upon which many things can be built, and not use it as the "ceiling" which can be more creative, beautiful and/or decorated (speaking metaphorically), if we apply "natural intelligence" that has been gifted to us, human beings! To sum it up, AI is a great friend but the threat is real for the near future where skill based work will get more and more in demand. ATTRITION...A threat to Organizational growth (even to its existence) Attrition is a key challenge to any organization. IT industry had around 20% attrition in 2023. Attrition disturbs the Organizational Stability and affects the overall growth. Let us see how attrition affects Organizations: ✓ Replacement: Finding an adequate new replacement is not easy to replace the previously experienced employee having the same skills. It requires lots of time and money investment. ✓ Meeting Expectations: Sometimes a project is incomplete and team is struggling to meet deadlines. It is hard for the new employee to meet the expectations withing a short time span. ✓ Hiring: The company has to hire new employees to fulfill the needs and provide training during this period of time and have to pay which require cost and time which affects the company budget. ✓ Last moment Drop off : Considering the common norm of 90 days notice period, Organizations are not sure till the last day, if the selected candidate is going to join them or not. But, what are the reasons for Attrition? Most of us think, 'Pay Package' is the obvious reason, right? No, it's not. It is one of the reasons but certainly not the main reason. The main reason is 'Poor Leadership' or 'Poor Boss'. Employees like to work with/under a supportive manager. Since, you have to work with your manager for 8-10 hours (or more) in a day, and if your Boss, is not good then how you can sustain the workload for long. This results in attrition. ‘When the atmosphere encourages learning, the learning is inevitable’   One of the most important and crucial aspect of soft skills training is creating a "Safe Learning Environment" where every participant feels trusted, included and belonged to   Here’s how I make an effort towards this-   1.    Creating WoWs- The co-created norms right in the beginning of the session lays a foundation of trust and mutual respect. This is quite similar to creating democratic environment and make everyone feel invested in the process.   2.    Vegas Rule: Ensuring that whatever is shared in training room stays in there only; is crucial for building trust and bring the sense of safety for participants to express themselves.   3.    Sharing Vulnerabilities- Not pretending to be somebody perfect and being open to sharing my own vulnerabilities and how I overcome those.   4.    Everyone Counts- As a trainer, I make it a point to avoid favoritism and partiality towards any of the learners. I remember during school, there were always a few students who would answer every question and complete every task quickly, often overshadowing others. However, focusing only on the understanding of these few students isn't enough to move forward. It's crucial to address the doubts and needs of every participant to ensure that everyone is on the same page. Each and every participant is important.     5.    Beyond the Spotlight- In one of the seminars which I attended long time back, the speaker asked a question to one of the audiences who had no answer to this question. I could see the sense of embarrassment on this participant and hence I avoid signaling anyone by name to answer question as it creates unnecessary pressure and spotlight on the participant. Group discussions and voluntary contributions are always better, allowing each participant to engage at their own pace without being forced.   6.    Valuing each question alike- Avoiding saying ‘Good Question’ when someone asks a something. While this phrase is well intentioned, I believe it can diminish the value of other questions. Instead, I acknowledge all inquiries with equal respect and appreciation, creating an environment where every participant feels their contributions are valued equally. This also helps maintain a more inclusive and supportive atmosphere, encouraging everyone to engage freely without fear of judgment.   If you are still reading this post, I invite you to share your own ideas and approaches for creating a safe learning spaces..

Thought-Provoking Article in Hindustan Times. The Leaky Pipeline: Women are well represented at entry and individual contributor levels but drop significantly in management and leadership positions. This decline coincides with life stages where women face marriage and caregiving pressures, leading to higher attrition rates. The glass ceiling is cracking, but it's not shattering fast enough. While women's representation on boards is improving, we need more women in leadership roles across all sectors in India. The Companies Act of 2013 required certain classes of companies to have at least one woman independent director on their boards, as a result over the years, women's representation on boards has increased from 6% in 2013 to 18.3% in 2023. While SEBI's 2014 rules limits independent directors' tenures to two consecutive terms i.e. 10 years. The upcoming term expiry of tenures of 10 years, and the tenure limit approaches in 2024, a wave of new directors will need to replace many tenured ones, offering a unique opportunity for increased gender diversity on boards.
