Toyota has struggled to make a strong impact with its first and only BEV, the BZ4X, selling only 13,910 units in the first half of 2024 – far behind competitors like BYD, which sold 17,000 units during the same period. Notably, two of the top 10 EV models in Europe are from Tesla, and three are from #Chinese-owned brands, such as Volvo and MG. In comparison, Toyota’s BZ4X accounts for less than half the sales of the number 10-ranked EV model.

In October, MG Motor AE nearly overtook Tata Motors to claim the top spot in India’s electric vehicle (EV) market, missing the lead by a slim margin of just 8%. This is an extraordinary achievement in a highly competitive market that has, until now, been dominated by domestic heavyweights. MG Motor’s Windsor model emerged as the highest-selling EV in India, surpassing Tata’s Nexon and Mahindra Group's XUV400, both of which have enjoyed strong brand recognition and sales volumes in recent years. This accomplishment is particularly striking given MG Motor’s comparatively limited reach in India. While Tata Motors and Mahindra collectively operate a vast number of dealerships across the country, MG Motor manages just around 308 outlets nationwide. Additionally, about 30% of these dealerships are relatively new, having opened in the past year as part of MG’s expansion efforts. This preference can likely be attributed to the Windsor’s appeal in terms of advanced technology, design, and value for money, which resonate strongly with Indian EV buyers. Yet, MG Motor’s rising success in India presents some complex challenges. Although MG Motor India functions with considerable operational autonomy, the company is 49% owned by China’s state-controlled automaker, SAIC (Shanghai Automotive Industry Corporation). *This ownership structure has financial implications, as a significant portion of MG’s earnings flows back to China through royalties, licensing fees, and other financial arrangements*. Additionally, many key components in MG’s EV lineup are imported directly from SAIC’s manufacturing facilities in China, meaning the Windsor and other models are reliant on SAIC’s Chinese supply chain for production. MG Motor has outlined plans to scale up its dealership network significantly, targeting the addition of 200 to 250 new outlets annually.

At a fork in the road, full with chances and challenges, here's a detailed assessment on the future of private electric buses in India as reported by CEEW. The data presents a frightening image: 95% of owners of e-buses encounter significant challenges in comparison to their diesel equivalents, particularly throughout the crucial 4–7 year loan payback term. Still, there are rays of promise lighting the way ahead. Mofussil routes are profitable endeavours for standard 12 metres and midi 9 metres AC e-buses, covering fewer than 120 km across the plains. In addition to offering financial stability, these shorter trips demonstrate our shared commitment to a more sustainable and environmentally friendly future. However, there will be detours and turns along the way. Longer routes are extremely challenging because profitability depends on a daily vehicle utilisation threshold of 400 km, which is made more challenging by the existing constraints on battery capacities. There are pockets of opportunity among these difficulties, especially in hilly areas. Thanks to the miracle of downhill regenerative braking, 9 metres e-bus operations excel in this situation, claiming a cost per kilometre that is far lower than that of their diesel counterparts. 2024 has been quite eventful for the E-mobility ecosystem, presenting many forward-looking policies. **Reality Check for MBA Graduates: Why Many Remain Jobless** Many of India’s MBA graduates from generic colleges are disconnected from the realities of industry. They lack a grasp of industrial processes and are unfamiliar with essential statistics in their field. Moreover, they often fail to verify data from government or independent sources. An MBA is essentially about managing someone else's business. If you aim for top-paying management jobs without understanding the data, how can you do justice to your role? This disconnect is why a staggering number of MBA graduates remain jobless or soon find themselves “looking for job” on their profiles. To break this cycle, reconnect with the basics. Desire for knowledge is crucial. Without it, dreams remain unfulfilled, leading to frustration and negativity. No business wants negativity in its management. This cycle of job dissatisfaction and blame can only be broken by a commitment to continuous learning and real-world understanding. I have been thinking about providing an “on-the-job training” program in project management at our manufacturing center in Bangalore. This three-month training will cover all aspects of a program's life cycle, tailored to meet industrial requirements. As we are a manufacturing company and not an educational institution, we won't offer placements, but we will provide recommendations. This idea came to me after a couple of friends asked if I could train their management trainees like I train fresh BTech engineers. Let’s see how it develops. 𝗛𝘆𝘂𝗻𝗱𝗮𝗶 𝗜𝗣𝗢 𝗮𝗻𝗱 𝗶𝘁𝘀 𝗣𝗼𝘁𝗲𝗻𝘁𝗶𝗮𝗹 𝗜𝗺𝗽𝗮𝗰𝘁 𝗼𝗻 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝗥𝘂𝗽𝗲𝗲 The upcoming Hyundai IPO might seem like a regular market event, but it could have significant consequences for the rupee.  Unlike typical IPOs, which usually bring fresh capital into India, this one is an "𝗢𝗳𝗳𝗲𝗿 𝗳𝗼𝗿 𝗦𝗮𝗹𝗲" (𝗢𝗙𝗦), meaning the funds raised won't stay within the country. Since the parent company is offloading its stake, the proceeds from the sale will be 𝗿𝗲𝗽𝗮𝘁𝗿𝗶𝗮𝘁𝗲𝗱 𝘁𝗼 𝗦𝗼𝘂𝘁𝗵 𝗞𝗼𝗿𝗲𝗮. This creates an outflow of funds from India, putting pressure on the country's foreign exchange reserves.  𝗪𝗶𝘁𝗵 𝗹𝗮𝗿𝗴𝗲 𝘀𝘂𝗺𝘀 𝗼𝗳 𝗺𝗼𝗻𝗲𝘆 𝗹𝗲𝗮𝘃𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝘀𝘆𝘀𝘁𝗲𝗺, 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝗿𝘂𝗽𝗲𝗲 𝗶𝘀 𝗹𝗶𝗸𝗲𝗹𝘆 𝘁𝗼 𝘄𝗲𝗮𝗸𝗲𝗻 𝗱𝘂𝗲 𝘁𝗼 𝗿𝗲𝗱𝘂𝗰𝗲𝗱 𝗿𝗲𝘀𝗲𝗿𝘃𝗲𝘀 𝘀𝘂𝗽𝗽𝗼𝗿𝘁𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝗶𝘁𝘀 𝘃𝗮𝗹𝘂𝗲. Sales for TVS also declined by 10.32% month-on-month. ➤Bajaj Auto Ltd ranked third with 26,163 units sold, holding a 22.00% market share. The company experienced a smaller 7.75% drop in sales. 𝗠𝗶𝗱-𝗧𝗶𝗲𝗿 𝗣𝗲𝗿𝗳𝗼𝗿𝗺𝗲𝗿𝘀: ➤Ather Energy sold 12,741 units, accounting for a 10.71% market share, but faced a significant 21.14% decline compared to October. ➤Hero MotoCorp contributed 7,309 units to the market with a 6.15% market share and a marginal 0.40% decline in sales. 𝗛𝗶𝗴𝗵-𝗚𝗿𝗼𝘄𝘁𝗵 𝗖𝗼𝗻𝘁𝗲𝗻𝗱𝗲𝗿𝘀: ➤Greaves Electric Mobility recorded 4,468 units sold with a 3.76% market share. Impressively, the company achieved 12.01% month-on-month growth, demonstrating strong momentum. ➤Revolt Motors saw an extraordinary 109.45% growth, selling 1,994 units, up from 952 units in October. ➤Lectrix EV also showed remarkable progress, with sales jumping 85.23% to 991 units. Here’s a look at the courses and the key learnings they have imparted: Financial Reporting & Analysis and Cost Management: This course provided a deep dive into financial statements and cost structures, equipping me with the skills to analyze financial health and make informed business decisions. Business Statistics: I developed strong analytical skills, learning to interpret data and apply statistical methods to solve business problems. Economics for Managers: This course offered insights into economic principles and their impact on business strategies and market dynamics. Managerial Oral Communication & Written Managerial Communication: These courses honed my communication skills, essential for effective leadership and collaboration. Organizational Behaviour: I explored the intricacies of human behaviour within organizations, learning to foster positive work environments and manage team dynamics. Storytelling for Business Managers: This unique course taught me the art of storytelling, crucial for engaging stakeholders and conveying complex ideas compellingly. #Loyalty programme #Rewards programme Why have one if the #brand cannot service the same properly? It puts off #customers more than the brand can ever imagine and does huge damage to its equity. Especially if it a #premium or #luxury brand. Ends up being less of a reward and more of a #repellent. Do not declare you have a loyalty or rewards programme just to tick off one more job in your checklist, as a #marketer.
