My advice to budding writers today is to take up writing if you're passionate. Don't try writing with money-making intent. When you try the latter, I am sure your writing career won't last long. Because writing isn't just limited to money. It has got more than what meets the eye. Writing is an emotion. It is about sharing value. It's about uplifting the lives of others. It's about genuinely caring for both clients and customers. With a money-making approach, your writing effort slowly fades away. You have to work under stringent deadlines and you may feel this overwhelming. Yet, you will deliver when you have got an undying passion for writing. Give your 100% as a writer. Be passionate. I talked to many Freelance Writers in the past 2 weeks and this is the most common problem they all face. ↳Not getting clients This is a very common problem and I’ve faced this for a long time too. The best thing I did was not stopping outreach and putting myself out there on Linkedin, among other things. Today I’m telling you everything I know about getting clients as a Freelance Writer. Here’s what you can do: 1️⃣ Build your Portfolio. ➡️Many freelancers are trying to get clients without putting together a Portfolio. Bruh, you don’t apply to a job without a resume, do you!? It’s the same here ➡️Write on platforms that give you visibility- Medium, Linkedin etc ➡️Write on your Blog if you want. ➡️Try doing some free work in exchange for testimonials 2️⃣ Do an Internship. ↳Writing is practical skill, you need to practice. An internship can help you understand: 👉How employers think 👉What clients want 👉 How teams function and much more. 3️⃣ Do a Job ↳ I might get heat for this from freelancers but financial security is very important. So, Get a job ➡️ Improve your skills ➡️ Save some money and keep trying while you’re in Job. ➡️ Connect with potential ICP, network like crazy and keep writing. ➡️ Having a job or internship that pays will give you the ability to invest in some books/courses/cohorts/consultations. This way you can learn more. 4️⃣ Linkedin. (You should I’d talk about this by now😉) Linkedin is where your employers and clients are!!! ↳Logically this is where you should be too. ➡️Get on Linkedin, Create content around your Niche. ➡️Reach out to ICP ➡️Get on networking calls with people. You learn a lot this way. ➡️Ask questions, many experts are quite helpful here. 5️⃣ Upwork, Fiverr etc You can also join these platforms to get clients. ➡️Just keep in mind that there will be lots of competition. 6️⃣ Writing Competitions ↳ Not many will tell you this Nothing screams you’re good at your work than an award. There are many good writing competitions that not only give you recognition but also pay. ➡️Enter writing competitions and if you win, you can use that when pitching etc. ↳ This is tried and tested. I Won “Most Read” “Top 25 Most Liked” Stories on Inspitale and used this when I pitched clients. I won this award in 2020, but got an 800$ US client using this recently. I included this in my “tell me about yourself”. ➡️ Please don’t enter competitions where you have to pay, they should pay you not the other way! That’s all folks! I hope this will help you…. As a writer, I've put countless hours into writing some good content, but even with the best work, sometimes my articles just aren't ranking😭 But why does this happen ⁉ I learnt that it's not always about the writing itself. SEO plays a huge role in determining visibility! Here are some basics that I think, one should take care of when they start with writing - 👉 Keyword placement - it should naturally fit into your titles, headings, and body text. 👉Don't underestimate the power of meta titles and meta descriptions, if written well, they can generate a good amount of traffic.  👉Quality content matters - to ensure that the piece provides value and is not written just for the sake of. 👉Optimize your images - to use descriptive file names and alt text for your images to improve their visibility in search results. 👉Content that is easy to read - writing content is one thing but making sure that it has a healthy readability score is another, this also means to include bullet points and tables whenever and wherever possible. What I have also learnt is sometimes, even with the best practices in place, it takes time to see results! Learning, experimenting, refining your approach and being patient to ensure your content reaches its full potential is the only way out! Don't do "this" as a writer As a writer, your job is not to write something for the day. It's not about how many words you can write per day. I have seen a lot of writers making this mistake. They take up writing tasks from the marketing/management/clients - work and deliver them immediately. Don't do this. Take your time. As a writer, you're the face of the company. You're responsible for the content writing efforts and results. - Understand what the topic/copy is all about - Analyze whether the copy aligns with your brand's guidelines and adds value to your customers. - Do a deep dive into SERPs, social channels, and YouTube to ensure it's unique. - Check your competitors' posts related to the topic. Capitalize on what they have missed. - Leverage the "People Also Ask section" in the SERPs - add related queries to the copy with valuable data. - Add your insights to the copy. - Ensure it's error-free and easy to digest - Add relevant CTA (only if needed) As a writer, your job is to tailor every word in the copy to influence your customers and prompt them to take desired actions. So, analyze and validate every writing task. Don't say "yes" to everything shared with you. It's all about results. Always focus on that. Dear CEOs, Sales and conversions are a number game. Whenever you hire a copywriter for a job, please do well in your publicity. It is only when the copy is put forward and read by people will it convert. But if the appropriate publicity is not given to it, no matter how good the copy is, it will perform poorly. To trust or not to trust - that's the question! If you are a writer, I'm sure, you must have come across this at least once. It's the same content checked in two different tools. And results are opposite in both tools. As there's no single tool that we all can trust fully, many writers struggle to prove their genuineness.
