Bharat Ki Baat. An industry-first study by the PRCAI on the hopes and aspirations of Indian citizens was launched at #PRana last week. The results reveal their views and expectations in 10 key areas — growth and prosperity; geo-political influence; infrastructure; healthcare; sustainability and environment; education; skilling, employment and livelihood; ease of living in cities and digital governance; technology and innovation; and communications and information. The study was conducted by Local Circles, using a community platform that received 180,000 responses from over 40,000 citizens located in 396 districts of India. Celebrating Children’s Day: The Child as the Father of the Man On this day, as we remember Chacha Nehru’s love for children and his belief in their boundless potential, I find myself reflecting on how children truly are “the father of the man.” Watching my own child grow has reminded me of the simplicity, curiosity, and resilience we sometimes lose in our adult lives, especially in a field as dynamic as PR and marketing. Children teach us invaluable lessons about communication—they’re unfiltered, honest, and bold. In the world of brands and storytelling, these qualities are rare gems. Whether it’s the fearlessness in trying something new, the persistence in asking “why,” or the joy in simple victories, every interaction with children renews my perspective on work and life. Over the years, I’ve learned that staying connected with this childlike spirit fuels our creativity and helps us approach challenges with fresh eyes. Chacha Nehru believed that children are the architects of the future, and today, as I watch the next generation grow, I feel inspired to approach my work with the same innocence, passion, and wonder. It was a pleasure to have this extensive interaction with TheCSRUniverse on our corporate social responsibility initiatives at HGS - Hinduja Global Solutions. Over the last eight years, our flagship CSR program #WorkToGive has mobilized over 70,000 employees to volunteer more than 100,000 hours in social impact initiatives across health, skilling, education, support for persons with disabilities, and water conservation, among others. CSR is not a standalone practice for us. We also align it with our Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion (DEI) and Environment, Sustainability, and Governance (ESG) objectives. For instance, our various skilling initiatives have an emphasis on preparing young women for the workforce in various capacities. Another example is our Eco-Club, which strives to encourage environment conservation among our employees through sustainability awareness sessions, volunteering opportunities, and collaboration with external organizations. This weekend, we talk about S. E. X. This conversation rarely happens, or worse, it does not happen. (Just like some much needed conversations in the corporate world.) At the India Communication Summit’24 we brought the conversation into the mainstream as Leeza Mangaldas engaged in conversation with my colleague Hemanshi Tewari Can communication professionals take lessons from this conversation? Our weekly Saturday Solologues column brought you snippets of what was discussed on stage. Within a day, it’s already the second most read story of the week. So, what was the most read story this week? It was about the booming market for sexual wellness products by my colleague Prateek Agarwal who hits it out of the park again! And this story was published only this Thursday. (For those who follow our top 20 stories of the week published every Sunday, here’s a little analysis. Seriously, EY? Is this really how you chose to address a crisis after Anna’s mother wrote an open letter about her daughter’s tragic death? EY India Chairman Rajiv Memani’s response—deflecting responsibility and downplaying the role of work pressure—is alarmingly tone-deaf. When an employee’s life is at stake, and workplace stress is a known factor in mental health crises, brushing it off is not just insensitive, it’s reckless. Instead of offering compassion or acknowledging the issue, EY missed the mark, amplifying public distrust. Effective crisis communication is vital, and key strategies include transparency, empathy, and accountability. Observing EY India Head Rajiv Memani's statement on Anna's tragic death, the approach lacked empathy and failed to address public concerns. Instead of acknowledging the gravity of the situation, the statement deflected responsibility by emphasizing the short tenure and dismissing work pressure as a cause. A better approach would align with key crisis principles: show compassion for the victim, acknowledge systemic concerns, and promise corrective actions. This human-centered approach fosters trust and understanding in critical moments which is entirely missing in EY’s response. Crisis communication needs to reflect empathy, not denial. It was personally very upsetting for me and also as a brand communication expert I found it “amateurish & unprofessional”. World Press Freedom Day has been close to my heart World Press Freedom Day: Safeguarding the Pillar of Democracy On May 3rd every year, the world comes together to commemorate World Press Freedom Day, a day that stands as a beacon of hope, reminding us of the indispensable role that a free press plays in our societies. In the digital age, where information flows ceaselessly, the importance of press freedom cannot be overstated. It serves as the cornerstone of democracy, holding power to account, and empowering citizens with knowledge. Press freedom is not a privilege but a fundamental human right enshrined in the Universal Declaration of Human Rights. It is the bedrock upon which democratic societies are built, allowing for the free exchange of ideas, the exposure of corruption, and the protection of individual liberties. However, this fundamental freedom is under threat in many parts of the world. Journalists face myriad challenges in their quest to uncover the truth and report it without fear or favor. They are often subject to harassment, intimidation, and violence, simply for doing their jobs. According to the Committee to Protect Journalists, hundreds of journalists are imprisoned, and many more are killed or attacked each year for their reporting. The digital revolution has brought both opportunities and challenges for press freedom. While it has democratized access to information and provided platforms for citizen journalism, it has also given rise to new forms of censorship and surveillance. Governments and powerful entities increasingly seek to control the flow of information, stifling dissent and silencing critical voices. In the face of these challenges, it is imperative that we stand united in defense of press freedom. Governments must uphold their commitments to protect journalists and ensure that they can work without fear of reprisal. Media organizations must uphold the highest ethical standards and resist political and commercial pressures that threaten their independence. Civil society must continue to advocate for press freedom and hold those in power accountable for their actions. On this World Press Freedom Day, let us reaffirm our commitment to defending the pillar of democracy. Let us honor the journalists who have sacrificed their lives in the pursuit of truth and justice. And let us redouble our efforts to ensure that press freedom remains a reality for all, now and in the future. For in the words of Thomas Jefferson, "The only security of all is in a free press."

In navigating a crisis as this, recognizing the issue, extending a heartfelt apology, and swiftly halting offensive campaigns stand as essential first moves.

I haven't come across anyone who did not like our trending four brand films 'Tu Poker Khelta Hai Kya?' featuring ace actor Shahid Kapoor, and here's why: Simplicity and Relatability: You can easily relate to the films as we followed a simple idea that every Indian possesses and uses skills in their day-to-day lives. You can use these skills to play poker, and at the same time, playing poker can help you get better at these life skills. Humour: While focusing on the message, we ensured that our films had a sense of humour. That's one thing I like about these films; we enjoy the wit along with the relatable situations we see every day. Shahid Kapoor: Unlike other actors, he doesn't associate with a plethora of brands. Instead, he is selective in partnering with brands that he believes in. And of course, he fits quite well in these films, playing these characters with charm and perfect timing.
