Rest in peace, Mr. Ratan Tata! The planet lost a big leader. Someone who broke stereotypes. Someone who had his own way of facing challenges and dealing with adversaries. Here is one of the many stories from this trailblazer's life : He was insulted by Bill Ford in 1999 when he was looking for potential buyers for his auto business when Indica (his pet project) was not at all performing well in the market. Tata flew to Detroit. Bill said that he is doing a favor to Tata by buying his loss-making automobile business and that Tata should not have embarked on Auto business in the first place, since Ratan didn't know anything about Automobile business. Bill humiliated Ratan Tata in front of the latter's team of employees. Ratan Tata was silent but reflective. He returned to India and decided not to sell his business. He slogged for 9 years, working feverishly in improving his business and working on the root causes.....After 9 years, Bill Ford came to Ratan Tata seeking rescue in 2008. This time the same Bill flew to Mumbai requesting for help. Bill was forced to say, "You are doing us a big favor by buying my Jaguar Land Rover business". Ratan treated him with respect and was dignified. He did not insult Bill the same way that Bill did in 1999. He bought Ford's business. But he came across as a much better person with magnanimity. People who pompously address themselves as "Visionary" or "Evangelist" in their Linkedin profiles (with <0.01% of caliber or credibility of this towering man) may want to learn an English word after knowing Ratan Tata - It is "Humility".

Dont analyze too much about what happened becoz there is always imperfection in any action. No action is perfect. Every action has a dot of imperfection in it. Even the worst act has got a good dot in it whereas the best action has got one flaw in it. It’s either 98 percent good & 2 percent bad or 2 percent good & 98 percent bad. So don’t focus on the flaws in an action. Keep acting, as long as it is 98 percent good. #ProgressNotPerfection

Change is constant!! We have learnt it; we have experienced it; we are living it in our daily routine of the tech world. AI is definitely one such topic. With lots of contents and experts talking about it both from the benefits and threats, our brain would be tuned to adopt and adapt. I am sharing my views about the adoption and adaption to the SaaS products in our native IT landscape.... The IT landscape at many Organizations in the at least in the last few years would have become a mix of home-grown solutions (that are living beyond its age) along with many new SaaS products that got added as part of a refresh or as part of a new focus area for the organization such as the compliance to ESG, Privacy etc. While Organizations leadership decides and subscribes to the SaaS product, there starts a complex change management project for the stakeholders to adapt and adopt the new unknown that is coming their way. The business process owners have seen the industry to its depth and breadth and would have defined the processes and built the tailored toolset to suit the organization and their team is tuned to what is set as the 'set process'. Now comes a SaaS product with tags of leaner processes, innovative solutions and alternatives to what is not great but acceptable homegrown solution. I compare this dilemma of the stakeholder to that of a kid who would be joining a new school in a new country/town in a few months. It changes their routine, the route, the uniform, the code of conduct, the teacher, the friends...the list goes on. I believe that the change management to SaaS adoption should start super early both from the product vendor and from the product consumer. We should work with the stakeholder to list their apprehensions to the new way of working and build a backlog of tasks for product adoption drive; we should mentally prepare them for what is coming their way, take baby steps to introduce them to the new wave of things, do many 'show & tell' sessions, check the pulse and refine the approach. The 'First 90days approach' which works in many topics could work here too, but in this case, the 90 days should shift left and start much before the day zero. We also need a new breed of functional consultants + business analysts who understand both sides of the world; and do a techno functional and behavioral study with stakeholders and tread the middle path to help the business stakeholder move them from change averse to change champions.
