Top 3 most common mistakes that freelance content writers make that could cost you money and clients: 1. Ghosting your clients/managers If you start communicating with a client or a manager and it takes you days to reply to a message, or even worse — you don't update your client on the writing process, that's it — you've ruined your reputation. 2. Lying about using #AI It's totally fine to use AI for various purposes (it's even recommended in some cases), but if your manager or client asks you if you had used it — tell the truth. There is a reason why they are asking. 3. Overdelivering and overcharging If you are asked for 1500-words, don't write 2000+ and expect additional compensation, or you will soon be left without tasks. By overdelivering I mean producing more content for the sake of being paid more, and not actually bringing value.

I talked to many Freelance Writers in the past 2 weeks and this is the most common problem they all face. ↳Not getting clients This is a very common problem and I’ve faced this for a long time too. The best thing I did was not stopping outreach and putting myself out there on Linkedin, among other things. Today I’m telling you everything I know about getting clients as a Freelance Writer. Here’s what you can do: 1️⃣ Build your Portfolio. ➡️Many freelancers are trying to get clients without putting together a Portfolio. Bruh, you don’t apply to a job without a resume, do you!? It’s the same here ➡️Write on platforms that give you visibility- Medium, Linkedin etc ➡️Write on your Blog if you want. ➡️Try doing some free work in exchange for testimonials 2️⃣ Do an Internship. ↳Writing is practical skill, you need to practice. An internship can help you understand: 👉How employers think 👉What clients want 👉 How teams function and much more. 3️⃣ Do a Job ↳ I might get heat for this from freelancers but financial security is very important. So, Get a job ➡️ Improve your skills ➡️ Save some money and keep trying while you’re in Job. ➡️ Connect with potential ICP, network like crazy and keep writing. ➡️ Having a job or internship that pays will give you the ability to invest in some books/courses/cohorts/consultations. This way you can learn more. 4️⃣ Linkedin. (You should I’d talk about this by now😉) Linkedin is where your employers and clients are!!! ↳Logically this is where you should be too. ➡️Get on Linkedin, Create content around your Niche. ➡️Reach out to ICP ➡️Get on networking calls with people. You learn a lot this way. ➡️Ask questions, many experts are quite helpful here. 5️⃣ Upwork, Fiverr etc You can also join these platforms to get clients. ➡️Just keep in mind that there will be lots of competition. 6️⃣ Writing Competitions ↳ Not many will tell you this Nothing screams you’re good at your work than an award. There are many good writing competitions that not only give you recognition but also pay. ➡️Enter writing competitions and if you win, you can use that when pitching etc. ↳ This is tried and tested. I Won “Most Read” “Top 25 Most Liked” Stories on Inspitale and used this when I pitched clients. I won this award in 2020, but got an 800$ US client using this recently. I included this in my “tell me about yourself”. ➡️ Please don’t enter competitions where you have to pay, they should pay you not the other way! That’s all folks! I hope this will help you…. 4,00,000 per month SALARY Expectations for the role of Content Writer!! 😱 That's what I received in response to the answer to the screening questions of our Content Writer Job Post. Now, I don't want to argue if the Content Writer role can give this much money or not. Or if a Content Writer in Jaipur would be paid this much or not? Who knows if a company is actually offering that? BUT, We mentioned our Salary range in the Job Description which is way too low than what was expected. We make our Job Descriptions detailed enough to eliminate the overqualified & underqualified people along with other filters so that we have to look and reject fewer people. Yet, so many unfit people apply for the same. I get it, you have to apply to hundreds of jobs. You don't really read job description as it might be a waste of time if you don't get selected for it. So you apply even if you are not fit to increase your chances. And I do not criticize anyone doing that. But, this is the sole reason that I put very odd screening question (marked in red) In the high HOPE, that it would get their attention. But NO, nothing can get our attention at all!! I even had applicants who came for an interview. They didn't read the job description even then. I asked them to read in front of me. All their facial glow was gone because they found that they didn't have the niche-relevant experience. Applying for jobs blindly doesn't increase your chances of getting a job, what it sure does is increase your dissatisfaction and frustration because of not getting a job after applying at so many places. Don't you think? With that being said, we are hiring for a Content Writer role and I have given all the possible details in the Job Description. If you are looking for a job in the Content Writing field, find the JD in the link in the comments. Only apply if you feel fit after reading JD. Tag someone who you think could be a fit and would take time to read the job description.
