The rise of India as the world's 2nd largest producer of mobile phones is one of the most remarkable examples of our push to the ‘Make In #India for the World’ initiative in the #Modi Decade. With production of 2.45 billion units of #mobile phones during this ten-year period, India has transitioned from being 78% import dependent in 2014 to 97% self-sufficiency under the far-sighted leadership of PM Narendra Modi Ji. In 2014-15, mobile phone exports from India were a mere ₹1,556 crores. Now the industry expects to end FY24 with an estimated export of a whopping ₹1,20,000 cr translating into a 7500% increase in #exports over a decade with cumulative exports during the period 2014-24 reaching a total of about ₹3,22,048 cr. Has Air India Limited turned the corner ? Choosing your airline ? As we experience the state of air travel in the country, Spicejet's latest issues of payments at various airports, with planes returning empty from Dubai (acccording to the latest press reports) because of unpaid dues to the ground handling agency, the latest fines on Air India, most travellers will be thinking about the choice of airline when planning their travel. We are now left with Akasa, Indigo, and Air India (along with AIX) as a choice. Last week's travel by both Indigo and Air India indicated a clear difference between the two, one going the mass commuter route (despite announcing business class) while the other providing a significant from the commuter class it was known for in the past. Specifics of the experience difference begins with the website and check-in experience, here Air India has clearly taken a significant leap, ability to download your boarding pass in different formats and adding it to your wallet are a clear move up. Indigo on the other hand has a clunky experience, downloaded to a pdf only, which the digi yatra does not recognise, without a wallet format. Even the recently merging of Vistara FFP account with the Flying Returns account was seamless. As against an announcement of a new FFP by Indigo with a pre-registration invite. The boarding experience comes next although a function of the terminal it operates from, its clear there is chaos in the erstwhile budget airline, the gate changed 3 times in a matter of 1 hour, without any initimation on WA or SMS, as compared to Air India which announced the gate as soon as it was firmed up (an hour prior) and stuck to it and initimation on the mobile. Even the announcement quality drops sharply when it comes to Indigo, a little training on voice modulation and tone would help immensely, clearly a lack of training and a belief that any ground crew can make the announcement. The inflight crew of Indigo which was a clear advantage earlier has also dropped again an indicator of the training and the speed of growth. Sloppiness and tardiness which was never an adjective for Indigo flight crew has now crept in. On the other hand Air India has jumped quite a few notches. including the in-flight meals. Finally the aircraft, which had a clear gap earlier because of the age of Indigo aircraft, has narrowed and this is will keep getting narrower as the newer aircraft of Air India keep joining the fleet. While one continues to read about poor experiences, in my feeds these seem to narrow down more or less towards the age of aircraft and the seats. As the Vistara fleet begins to join operations, my perspective is Air India has crossed the hump of transitioning and we will see a quickly improving customer experience score. Gyaan v/s Practice Right now you are reading this on either your laptop, tab or handphone. All three are tangible, can be seen, can be touched. All three have machines to manufacture them. What do event agencies sell ?... yes; their services, something which cannot be touched, seen and is intangible. Who are the machines here ? ; it is the team. Hence HR is seen as most important in service agencies. There are values, visions, goal settings, one on ones, MYR's , AYR's but most agencies fail to practice what they preach. We lament attrition but fail to realise that a valued resource works because he has a good manager who knows his strengths; trains him where needed, motivates him towards a growth path. But what actually happens is when a senior resource is needed, team members who have been for years contributing to an agency's success are surpassed and a new resource is brought in who has no idea of the working or culture of the agency. For continuing success, you don't get new people and train them. You promote existing rockstars by giving them a fraction of the budget you will spend on an outside resource, give him a second in command whom he can train to become another rockstar. Just think of the motivation he will get and so will all around him and in the entire agency itself when contribution is valued and rewarded. Comments ?

The growth of emerging affluent individuals in India can be assessed by observing the rise in available room inventory within the upscale and upper midscale hotel categories. Over the past 20 years, the upper midscale category has seen a remarkable increase from just 4,400 rooms to 35,500 rooms, marking a growth of approximately 7.2 times. Similarly, the upscale category has surged from 4,600 rooms to 33,700 rooms, demonstrating a growth of about 7.9 times during the same period. Goldman Sachs projected that by 2027, India would see an increase from the current 60 million to 100 million individuals with an annual income exceeding $10,000. India appears to present a compelling narrative for the coming two decades, particularly for those who are looking to build in India or invest in India. Folks in the Hospitality /Hotels segment . I have a question . May sound painful to some , but let's have the Jury out . Q. Does India at this point of their journey really need global hotel brands , who actually don't invest in building and operating the hotel property ground up ? I am ok if they acquire existing assets , specially distressed My reasoning 1. Distribution & marketing is internet driven . Be it overseas plaforms or Indian OTA , aggregators , Hotel hosting tech plaforms 2. Indian technology is far ahead of any existing global hotel brand . If not there is always the SAS /cloud horizon , with Block chain not far behind 3. Hotel global loyalty programmes will soon reach their sell by date . They will move like alliances in the airline business , including the code sharing variety 4. The Lalit , Oberoi , Taj , Leela are brands who don't need Hilton , Accor etc . And neither do individual propriety assets owned by local funding . Enough Indian chains to provide knowledge , management and SOP So why is India sending this royalty overseas . Can re- invest in tech and other training process ? Case in point is the evolution seen in global business travel brands of the 1990 : What do CWT , BCD. etc bring to the table which Indian companies can't ? Currently. Not in the past . Considering many may have their tech plaforms build by TCS , Wipro etc . And global accounts procurement by global companies is a farce now The nation wants to know . Let's debate ...
