Census last held in 2011, deadline extended 9 times since 2020. Could this mean Census is on the cards? The ambiguity has a direct impact on the dates of the next Census exercise that was last held in 2011. The deadline has been extended nine times since December 2020. A former Census official said an order for a “post-facto” extension could also be issued on a later date but if it was not extended it meant doors were open for the next Census exercise in the next three-six months. The Janata Dal (United), a key ally of the ruling Bharatiya Janata Party, has demanded caste census. The order on December 30, 2023 which extended the freezing of administrative boundaries by State governments till June 30, 2024 effectively pushed the decennial census exercise at least till October 1 as it usually takes three months to prepare the enumerators for the task. The implementation of the women’s reservation Act that was passed in a special session of the Parliament last year, which reserves 33% seats in Parliament and State Assemblies for women, is dependent on the conduct of the next Census. Good ideas. To add: 1. Greenscaping should be mandatory. This will provide both cooling, enrich oxygen and enhance aesthetics. 2. Use of Khus (Vetiver) curtains with a semi-automated water sprinkler with temperature and humidity sensor is far better than Artificial Air-Conditioners. 3. ACs should be banned with a global mandate with effect from 16 March 2025 with 9 months advance notice. Apart from being environmentally destructive they are also health and safety hazards. 4. We need to cut back on paved surfaces including roads. Switching from Private owned cars to Mobility-as-a-Service model will make a huge difference for health, environment and economic benefits. With every private car removed, 30 sq mtr of land space is released which can be used for storing more water (as precipitation will increase significantly over next 15 years) - recharging aquifers, wells, ponds, rivers and lakes; create space for more trees close inside human habitats; space for 'materials library' - where unused items are indexed and catalogued to be available as raw materials instead of being dumped in landfills. ✊🏼Reclaiming Crip and Queer stories in the digital space - A workshop by team RDI at FTX '24, by POV Mumbai! Revival Disability India is a collective led and driven by queer disabled folks. It started as a resistance of disabled bodies intertwined with feminist care. We are rooted in creating a disabled feminist culture. With storytelling as our methodology, we aspire to build a social movement that honours Access Justice. Our community-led projects involve activism through art, toolkits, narratives, evidence-based research and crip time. We build our workshops and modules taking Crip time as the center of time and disabled ways of caring, working and surviving as a principle. At the FTX workshop, we spoke about Digital rights, intimacies, and accessible activism. Here’s a look at our time in Mumbai, through pictures! Every workshop of ours has a table full of Stim Toys* We recognise each of us belong in this space in different ways, each of us take up space in different ways. Participants can sit, stand, lie down, listen to this session according to their own comfort. Revival is a space where we’re free to be whoever we want to be, devoid of any able-bodied norms or routines. *Stim toys, also known as sensory toys, are designed to provide sensory input and can be super helpful for stress relief and focus. We believe a person can resist from anywhere: referring to the vision and value of our collective. We are resisting from our wheelies, beds, chairs, with and without our mobility aids. Every form of movement or non-movement is valid and we enter the revolution in different ways by walking, wheeling, limping or hopping. For a lot of us who belong to structurally excluded groups, the only way we’ve made any sense of our marginalities is by writing, more writing, and conversing with fellow CripQueer community members. New work: How successive BJP and Congress governments in Rajasthan violated the landmark Scheduled Castes and Scheduled Tribes (Prevention of Atrocities) Act, 1989. RTI data shows that Rajasthan's SC/ST Vigilance Committee, mandated to meet twice a year under the Atrocities Act, met only twice in 13 years(!). Rajasthan has consistently led the charts on crimes against SCs and STs. Chaired by the CM, the Committee is responsible for reviewing the implementation of the Prevention of Atrocities Act. Ideally, it should have held 59 meetings so far since the notification of the rules of the SC/ST Act in 1995 — as opposed to the two times it actually met. Read:

Why Arts & Humanities education is vital for sustenance and progress of human society that has been pushed over the edge for human extinction due to unbalanced emphasis towards Science & Technology 1. Excess money is destroying the climate and ecology and stealing the future of youth and children. 2. A minimum money is needed for our sustenance in good health - food and basic needs. 3. Having more money is correlated with higher social status. 4. Earning more money is seen as motivation for higher productivity and innovation. 5. Fiat money is controlled by a global cartel driven by Greed Apathy and Selfishness that is destroying the climate and ecology. Therefore the more money you earn, the more your paymaster is likely destroying the climate and ecology and it further multiplies with our expenditure in the present global order. 6.
