According to Gallup's State of the Global Workplace 2024 report, a staggering 86% of Indian employees feel they are struggling or suffering in their professional lives. Only 14% report feeling they are thriving. This is a significant contrast to the global perspective, where 34% of employees feel they are thriving. Additionally, the report reveals: 35% of Indian employees feel angry during the day. 42% feel sad on a daily basis. This report is an eye-opener and raises a lot of questions. What could be the reasons behind such alarming statistics? Is it burnout? The pursuit of a better lifestyle? Soaring expenses? Intense competition? I believe these statistics underscore the urgent need for organizations to focus on the mental health and well-being of their employees. Creating a supportive, engaging, and fulfilling work environment is not just beneficial for employees but is crucial for the overall productivity and success of the business. One key takeaway is the importance of choosing the right manager. Often, the quality of management can be more critical than the brand name or the paycheck. Bridging the digital divide - Insightful India report on State of digital transformation

Back again, with some commentary on GCCs! News seems abuzz with data bytes and forecasts on how GCC's are the next big thing! Clearly, their is massive opportunity here! Nearly every report published in the news, quoting Consulting firms or soundbytes from global leaders tends to emphasize the role of Advanced Tech - AI/ML, Digital et al. Again, this is true, but I think the picture is a little more nuanced. While there undoubtedly growth in 'Tech' roles - covering the gamut from Services to Product Engineering - what I'm seeing on the ground is very different. GCC's began in what was the 'humble' SSCs - Shared Services Centers, broadening into GBS's (Global Business Services). Technology Center's or SDCs have been growing fast for a while now... However... In my view - the recent uptick and where I see the big growth coming from is the massive shift that's happening in the approach to functions like Finance, Risk, HR, Operations among others .. In fact, it's the application of newer generation technologies that originate in the AI/ML ecosystem and which have reached a certain stage of maturity now that are driving this shift. AKS Bullet Byte #2 Peter Thiel in his book Zero to One sets the premise - "The act of creation is singular, as is the moment of creation." "Every moment in Business happens only once. The next Bill Gates will not build an operating system. The next Larry Page or Sergey Brin won’t make a search engine. And the next Mark Zuckerberg won’t create a social network. If you are copying these guys, you aren’t learning from them." It’s easier to copy a model than to make something new. Doing what we already know how to do takes the world from 1 to n, adding more of something familiar. But every time we create something new, we go from 0 to 1 and the result is something fresh and strange. Progress can take one of two forms. Horizontal or extensive progress means copying things that work— going from 1 to n. Horizontal progress is easy to imagine because we already know what it looks like. Vertical or intensive progress means doing new things—going from 0 to 1. Vertical progress is harder to imagine because it requires doing something nobody else has ever done. If you take one typewriter and build 100, you have made horizontal progress. If you have a typewriter and build a word processor, you have made vertical progress. At the macro level, the single word for horizontal progress is globalization—taking things that work somewhere and making them work everywhere. The single word for vertical, 0 to 1 progress is technology. What do you think start-up mindset is/should be like - one focussing on Vertical Progress or one delving on Horizontol. Technology or Globalisation - ofcourse both are required in an economy but that is not the question. Think about it. How is this relevant to career building ? 🚀 Exciting updates from Reliance Industries at their annual general meeting! RIL Chairman Mukesh Ambani shared the company's vision of making AI services accessible to everyone, announcing the launch of the Jio AI-Cloud offer and emphasizing the commitment to sustainability with gigawatt-scale, AI-ready data centers powered by green energy. The Jio AI-Cloud offer includes 100GB of free cloud storage for Jio users, paving the way for a national AI infrastructure and partnerships with global technology companies to bring advanced AI solutions to India. Jio also introduced innovative AI tools like Jio Phonecall AI and Jio Brain, aiming to drive a transformation across Reliance operations and offer them to other enterprises. I often think about the conversations that have influenced me on my journey.   One particularly impactful conversation I heard was on a podcast by Ranveer Allahbadia with Dr A Velumani. Dr. Velumani's journey from a small village to achieving something remarkable embodies resilience, focus, and simplicity. One thing he said that struck a chord with me was, "Don’t complain about what you don’t have. Make the best of what you do have."   These words aren't just advice – they're a way of life. It's about accepting where you are and finding the strength within yourself to create something extraordinary. When we stop complaining and start creating, we realize that we are capable of more than we ever imagined. Ultimately, it’s not about how much we have, but how much we make of what we have. And that's where true success lies.   As I reflect on the wisdom shared in this conversation, I'm reminded of the saying: "Sometimes, the most powerful lessons come from the simplest words," like those from Dr. Velumani.   1. Start where you are, with what you have. 2. Focus on what you can do today. 3. Turn challenges into opportunities. 4. Keep things simple. 5. Lead with empathy. 6. Don’t wait for the perfect moment. 7. Stay true to your values. 8. Make the most of what’s in front of you. 9. Believe in your potential. 10. Give back as you grow.   Dr. Velumani’s lessons aren't just for the business world – they are lessons for life.
