On a lazy day, stumbled upon this masterpiece from the great Amitabh Bachchan on how to deal with life challenges and felt like sharing it here. According to him, if things don't happen according to your wish, it's even better. This is because they are happening according to the wish of some Divine force, and that Divine force will never think ill about you. So you have to respect that as being better. Life is a struggle, and as long as there is life, there is going to be struggle. If we accept this, we will be better prepared to deal with the challenges that come our way. We should not sit in despondency, but rather be aware that tomorrow is another day, which could be profitable or not, but eventually there will be another day when we can start trying all over again. The fear of those ugly moments recurring is perhaps what drives us every day. Sonata Software recently invited me to contribute at their "Building a #Resilient Workforce: Strategies for Success" event. This was a panel discussion anchored by the effervescent and impactful Shubhra Singh and my co-panelists were their CDO Suresh HP and their Head of Corporate Development Sharmila Sherikar, both exceptionally well-read and articulate leaders. With Co-travellers so named, challenge number one was not even the topic, it was getting my tongue to navigate the "S" and "Sh" sound when my geographical ethnicity does not allow for it :-) On to the topic at hand. Shubhra moderated the session extremely well with her forceful and well-directed questions making us better panelists in the process. The first question that defined the boundaries of our conversation was "Why do we need a resilient workforce?" To me, resilience is fundamentally our ability to #navigate through and bounce back from adversity. Organizations that don't anticipate adversity can perhaps do without a resilient workforce. In a world in the middle of a #climatecrisis, chasing some 17 sustainable development goals, facing an existential #AI opportunity, and growing to 10 billion people, addressing adversity is how we will progress into a very challenging future. The next question allowed us to define resilience for the 300 strong audience. How does collaborative and cross-functional teamwork contribute to resilience of individual employees. How do leaders contribute to a culture of resilience? Resilience has two core ingredients: #Strength and #Elasticity. Strength comes from the individual and the community. The strength of the community is what prevents a culture from turning toxic. Hence, I would say cross functional / collaborative teamwork is the absolute essence of resilience. Elasticity is the ability to stretch which comes from both the individual and the organisation as well as from a strong sense of purpose they carry. The difference between #toxicworkplaces and purpose driven workplaces is that the latter stretch people to their elastic limits but no more. Leaders fashion #purpose on the fertile soil of #culture. I believe that there are two extremes of #culture that leaders navigate - a sharp elbowed culture and a warm chested culture. They also navigate two extremes of purpose - the ambiguous and the ambitious. The intersection of warm chested as well as ambitious culture is where breakthrough #innovation thrives. Similarly, warm chested and ambiguous tends to give us a Don Quixotic organisation...quite well meaning but essentially useless. [Covering the entire discussion is best left for another day.] However, this forced me to dig deep and seriously introspect as a Founder to find answers and I am grateful to team Sonata for listening-in and to Rashmi Prabha, Balaji Kumar and Samir Dhir for having me over.

I often think about the conversations that have influenced me on my journey.   One particularly impactful conversation I heard was on a podcast by Ranveer Allahbadia with Dr A Velumani. Dr. Velumani's journey from a small village to achieving something remarkable embodies resilience, focus, and simplicity. One thing he said that struck a chord with me was, "Don’t complain about what you don’t have. Make the best of what you do have."   These words aren't just advice – they're a way of life. It's about accepting where you are and finding the strength within yourself to create something extraordinary. When we stop complaining and start creating, we realize that we are capable of more than we ever imagined. Ultimately, it’s not about how much we have, but how much we make of what we have. And that's where true success lies.   As I reflect on the wisdom shared in this conversation, I'm reminded of the saying: "Sometimes, the most powerful lessons come from the simplest words," like those from Dr. Velumani.   1. Start where you are, with what you have. 2. Focus on what you can do today. 3. Turn challenges into opportunities. 4. Keep things simple. 5. Lead with empathy. 6. Don’t wait for the perfect moment. 7. Stay true to your values. 8. Make the most of what’s in front of you. 9. Believe in your potential. 10. Give back as you grow.   Dr. Velumani’s lessons aren't just for the business world – they are lessons for life. Last week, while traveling through South Asia, I captured this photo of an auto rickshaw winding through the chaotic streets. It immediately brought back memories of my childhood in Calcutta, where these three-wheeled vehicles were more than just transportation—they were part of the rhythm of everyday life. For anyone who hasn’t experienced it, auto rickshaws are the backbone of cities like Bangalore and Mumbai. They glide through narrow streets, ferrying countless people every day. It’s such a contrast to the U.S., where our roads and infrastructure are designed for cars and buses. Over there, these nimble little autos thrive in a world that demands flexibility. Growing up in Calcutta, hopping on an auto wasn’t just about getting from point A to B. Each ride offered a snapshot of life around me—quick conversations with the driver, watching families pack in, and seeing the city’s daily hustle unfold. It was a reminder that resilience and adaptability were woven into the fabric of life. Now, back home in Virginia, I look at this image and reflect on what these small, everyday experiences taught me: ADAPTABILITY: Just as these rickshaws navigate winding streets, we too have to find our way through life’s uncertainties. Whether it’s in our careers or personal lives, being adaptable has helped me move forward, even when the road wasn’t clear. INCLUSIVITY: Auto rickshaws don’t discriminate—students, workers, families, anyone can hop in. It’s a reminder that our workplaces should be like that too: open and accessible to everyone, valuing all perspectives. SUSTAINABILITY: With more electric rickshaws emerging, South Asian cities are leaning towards eco-friendly solutions. That makes me think: how can we, as leaders, make choices that balance progress with sustainability in our own industries? I may not see auto rickshaws outside my window in the U.S., but the lessons they’ve taught me—about community, resilience, and adaptability—are universal. Feeling / Unfeelings on Usage of AI - 11th Sept 2024: Gen AI and AI are ruling the roost today, every conversation these days is around these 2 characters … seems that world does not have adequate elements to discuss and talk about. I would say Gen AI / AI is changing the world and thought process of the leadership team. Even though AI can bring about a substantial positive impact in many areas of our lives, AI’s inappropriate and unethical use has become a big concern recently. As per my limited understanding … there are 2 principal errors of AI usage are the unethical use of AI and AI’s biased use. The word biased means unfairly prejudiced for or against someone or something. In our current world there is unfairness and discrimination. Al algorithms work thanks to data, and if the data reflects the injustice and unequal society, it will learn from our biased systems. The word unethical means not morally correct. In the context of AI, the unethical use of AI is typically related to the violation of private data. However, who decides what is morally or ethically correct and what not? Between cultures, there are differences as to what is considered unethical and what is not. There should be a more open public discussion about morally and ethically correct when building technology products for consumers and using their data. However, people´s data should be valued and not violated. As per me, Things are Ok and correct, if those similar elements happen with me and they are acceptable to me …. If not, then … we have a challenge … Life should be simple … lets not complicate it with jargons and legal elements … truth should be crystal clear as water (not the muddy one) And Today was the day, when I saw World Trade Center in New York crash (I was watching the 2nd tower of WTC crash, was watching it from a distance of about 100 mtrs)
