There are only 4 major drivers of competitive advantages in building a D2C business in 2025. 1. Category creation 2. Distribution moats 3. Ecosystem dynamics 4. Founder brand But if you're just starting out, you really only have one option. Founder Brand Why? -> Category creation is the ultimate prize but demands massive capital. At any given moment, based on market conditions and investor appetite, only a handful of companies can sustain this burn. Most implode trying. -> Distribution moats are beautiful in theory but nearly impossible to build from scratch. Getting to true escape velocity in distribution requires either vast resources or perfect timing. Enterprise tech startup Clueso (YC W23) has raised $1.4 Mn (about Rs 11.6 Cr) in its seed funding round, led by f7 Ventures. The round also saw participation from existing backer Y Combinator. Clueso leverages generative AI (GenAI) to help companies create instructional videos and documentation for employee training and customers. Clueso claims that its AI auto-removes fumbling and rewrites the transcript to cover the same content 60% of the time and replaces the audio track with a “professional, natural-sounding AI voiceover”. Besides, it also creates a written article for every video with screenshots and GIFs. Clueso was also selected in the winter cohort of Y Combinator’s early-stage startup accelerator program in April 2023. My intern took my website from ~0 to 100k monthly visits follow the basic strategy I created. Here's what we learned: 1. SEO is about giving the user what it wants. As the search engine improves, you can get traffic simply by meeting the searcher's intent. There are still many 100 monthly search volume keywords that are easy to rank for. 2. You can use AI to write these articles, but please improve them. Check your facts. Add experience, expertise and entertainment. 3. To grow traffic fast, write a lot of articles. Write 10 articles per day for 100 days and you have 1000 articles. You don't get traffic if you have no content. The 80/20 of SEO is writing a lot of articles first and then improving those that are already getting traffic. 4. If you content is great, you get organic backlinks over time. You can invest a bit in backlinks for competitive keywords, but there are so many long-tail keywords you can rank for without needing DR or backlinks. For best value for time, work on being the topical authority in one topic and internal link your articles to each other. You win when you're useful to people. P.S. I designed a new SEO strategy for my own personal site and how we'll go from 0 to 100k ASAP. Two weeks and we’re already getting traffic!!
