Scaling up sustainable agriculture and livelihoods: The power of de-centralized maintenance and repair The partnership of GIZ India, Sustain Plus anad Sa-Dhan Association have enabled loans by FIs for farmers. These loans are to buy technological solutions which enable climate resilience in agriculture. Financial Institutions (FIs) like NBFCs and MFIs have started disbursing these loans. However, they have always raised the issue of inadequate after-sales service. The technologies are manufactured by start-ups, who are building the after-sales service network. Without reliable support, the risk of equipment failure increases. This leads to loan defaults. This would again lead to reluctance among FIs to extend loans. It is difficult to repair equipment in remote locations. Geographic isolation often leaves farmers with no local service centres. This means and waiting for external technicians to travel to their locations. This is time-consuming and costly. The pressing need for efficient post-sale support seems to have a simple solution. A video tutorial made for local technicians. These video tutorials can cover installation, maintenance, and troubleshooting. These would enable local technicians to do the necessary repair. The first set of videos has been rolled out by Devidayal Solar Solutions Pvt. Ltd. . The video can be accessed in the link below. To close the loop, technicians in the locations near the installations need to be informed We are working to achieve this. To ensure widespread accessibility, these tutorials must be made available in local languages. That will make them comprehensible to technicians and farmers across rural India This would improve the long-term success of sustainable technology adoption in rural areas. This would benefit both farmers and financial institutions by creating climate resilience. For Financial Institutions, it would be an incentive to promote sustainable agriculture. It also has significant remote livelihood implications. This in turn can help reduce distress migration for work. This initiative involves many partners. We acknowledge gratitude to the Sustain Plus Energy Foundation, GOGLA, IKEA Foundation and Climate Policy Initiative India. Efforts to replicate and scale up is going on.
