Christel House India is a Children’s Charity established in Bangalore in 2000 with a mission to transform the lives of impoverished children – breaking the cycle of poverty and building self-sufficient, contributing members of society. The model focuses on the ‘whole child’, providing rigorous K-12 education, strong character development, health care and nutrition, family assistance, scholarships to pursue university education and finally career guidance and job placements. Christel House India is affiliated with agencies such as Give India, GuideStar, Credibility Alliance, Give2Asia and Goodera. Meet Sinchana, a Christel House India student who radiates confidence and enthusiasm as she talks about her favorite parts of school. “I love to play in school. I love these teachers. I like art because it teaches me to color, write, and draw,” she says, with a smile that mirrors her love for learning. Sinchana’s story is a powerful testament to the impact our model has from the moment children walk through our doors. Articulate, bright, and filled with curiosity, her words reflect the agency and voice that we aim to instill in every child. In July, I got to travel to Christel House India in Bangalore alongside Claire Ziwa and students from The Perse School, Cambridge. Here, we shot a series of wonderful films, ranging from student profiles, a promotional film for Christel House that was devised by its students, and a film about collaboration/learning from each schools methodologies for student success. A huge thanks to Claire, The Perse School and the brilliant team at Christel House for such a fantastic week of filming. Saks Serves, our employee volunteer program, recently held a Back-to-School drive to support local nonprofits and the children they serve. Between our India corporate office, Tennessee Fulfillment Center, Pottsville Photo Studio, New York corporate office and U.S.-based remote employees, Saks Serves donated nearly 5,000 school supplies to students across our local communities as they head back to school. Through this initiative, we worked with impactful partners including Christel House India, Rutherford County’s Boys & Girls Club, Schuylkill United Way and Henry Street Settlement, to reach underserved communities. #Saks #SaksServes #CommunityImpact
