Rural communities are encouraged to adopt mixed cropping—an agricultural practice that minimizes the risks of relying on a single crop. This approach involves cultivating multiple crops on the same land, often with complementary characteristics. Mixed cropping offers a practical solution to pests and unpredictable weather challenges. It enhances food security, stabilizes incomes, and improves soil health. The Sustainable Livelihood Programme (SLP) plays a pivotal role in promoting mixed cropping by equipping farmers with the skills and resources needed to diversify their income through a variety of opportunities. The programme helps reduce reliance on a single crop, boosts agricultural productivity, and connects farmers to more profitable markets. Here's a glimpse of what a thriving mixed-cropping landscape looks like. 📽️: Samaj Pragati Sahayog #MixedCropping #FoodSecurity #ClimateResilience #SustainableLivelihoodProgramme

Securing livelihoods for marginalised communities across India
About us
Axis Bank Foundation focusses on working with vulnerable rural communities, helping them secure stable and sustainable livelihoods. To create economic opportunities for small and marginal farmers and landless rural citizens, we set in place systems that enhance their income from agri and agri-allied work, natural resource management, livestock and via linkages for finance and to markets. We also look into providing vocational skills for able and disabled unemployed youth in urban and rural India. We work with our extensive network of NGO-partners to design programmes and interventions specific to the community’s requirements. Our vision is to reach out to the most marginalised communities and create sustainable socio-economic impact in their lives. We aim to impact two million households by 2025.

Have you seen the Pantone Colour of the Year yet? - Mocha Mousse Mocha Mousse feels so familiar – it instantly reminds us of this rural Indian landscape! We couldn’t help but notice the striking resemblance between our earthy मिट्टी tones and this rich, warm colour. Here’s a short snippet of a village space in the colour Mocha Mousse. These spaces foster social interaction, facilitate the exchange of ideas and news, and play a pivotal role in community decision-making, enabling community members to come together and address important issues. #Pantone2025 #MochaMousse #RuralIndia #IndianLandscapes #SustainableLivelihoodProgramme Video: Samaj Pragati Sahayog

#WorldSoilDay2024 Did you know the health of our soil determines the health of everything that grows on it? This 5th December, on World Soil Day, we shine a spotlight on the importance of soil and this year’s theme: Caring for Soils: Measure, Monitor, Manage. Aligned with this year’s theme is an inspiring soil story from Yavatmal, Maharashtra. Meet young Agri-Entrepreneur Vishnu Shinde, who is making a positive impact on rural farming communities with his Soil Testing Lab and Nursery. His efforts are helping farmers: ✅ Identify better farming practices. ✅ Use the right set of soil inputs. ✅ Reduce farming costs and increase yields. ✅ Raise awareness about soil health and encourage climate-friendly agriculture. Vishnu’s initiative is part of the Agri-Entrepreneur model under the Sustainable Livelihood Programme, supported by Axis Bank Foundation in collaboration with The Agri-Entrepreneur Growth Foundation (AEGF). The Agri-Entrepreneur Model actively engages with the farming community to enhance their livelihoods. The entrepreneurs introduce innovative agricultural technologies and practices to local farmers, increasing crop productivity, improving economic well-being, and inspiring others to explore new opportunities in agriculture. #ClimateSmartAgriculture #WorldSoilDay #SustainableLivelihoodProgramme

Horticulture is an income-generating pathway adopted by an increasing number of families in rural India, which reduces migration, provides year-round income, and creates countless growth opportunities. With better farming techniques, strong market linkages, and government support, it is enabling rural areas to thrive. In regions where horticulture was once unfamiliar, training programmes have been crucial. By equipping farmers with hands-on knowledge and skills, they are now successfully cultivating high-value crops and transforming their agricultural practices. These training initiatives which are part of the Sustainable Livelihood Programme have also connected farmers to various government schemes, giving them access to financial support and creating long-term economic opportunities. #Horticulture #AtoZofRuralLivelihoods #SustainableLivelihoodProgramme
