    🎓 Placement Hype vs Reality: A Call for Outcome Efficiency 🎯 Last week, I came across an advertisement by a college in Coimbatore celebrating that 10 of their students received pre-offer packages of ₹44 LPA at Ama*.** While it sounds impressive, let’s pause and dig deeper: 🛑 First things first: ❗A pre-offer is not a guaranteed offer. ❗Industry data shows that only 25% of pre-offer candidates actually convert to full-time offers after internships. 📊 Now, let’s look at the bigger picture: 🔹This college admits over 2,000 students annually into its engineering programs. 🔹About 80% of these students are near the peak cutoffs in their +2 or pre-university exams—essentially, some of the brightest minds. 🔹Yet, the focus is on 10 students out of 1,600 top-grade candidates. Key Questions: ❗What about the placement outcomes for the remaining 1,590 students? ❗Did they secure jobs? If yes, what are their packages? ❗If only 10 out of 1,600 bright students secured such a package, does the credit go to the students’ individual efforts rather than the college’s system? 💡 Outcome Deficit: If the campus is showcasing only 10 students while the rest face significantly different outcomes, we’re looking at an outcome efficiency gap of 99.37% (1590/1600). It’s time to rethink: Instead of flashing these numbers to mislead society, colleges should focus on improving the overall outcome efficiency for all their students. Success should not be defined by a handful of outliers but by the collective growth and placement of the entire batch. 🚀 This isn’t criticism. YES/NO. Let’s face it. The job market dynamics are shifting rapidly, and no amount of networking or corporate meetups will solve this overnight. Even many CEOs lack clarity. ❗The problem? Transactional mindsets. Many placement officers have reduced their roles to profit-driven entities, while campus heads /recruiters focus on shortcut wins using the situations. This has led to missed opportunities for the young graduates who represent the future of our country. 💡 Here’s a wake-up call: Placement officers and corporate leaders, you hold a shared responsibility to create meaningful opportunities for young talent.     𝐇𝐞𝐚𝐫𝐭 𝐨𝐟 𝐓𝐫𝐮𝐞 𝐄𝐝𝐓𝐞𝐜𝐡 𝐓𝐫𝐚𝐧𝐬𝐟𝐨𝐫𝐦𝐚𝐭𝐢𝐨𝐧 / 𝐏𝐚𝐫𝐭 𝐈⁣ 𝐏𝐫𝐨𝐛𝐥𝐞𝐦-𝐂𝐞𝐧𝐭𝐫𝐢𝐜 𝐃𝐞𝐬𝐢𝐠𝐧 ⁣ ⁣ In early 2020, just before the pandemic turned the world upside down, we initiated discussions with the Tamil Nadu Directorate of School Education. The goal was ambitious but meaningful: to offer free NEET training to government school students, leveraging E-Box to enhance their preparation. As part of this collaboration, we visited several NEET nodal centers to understand their existing model and explore how E-Box could fit in to make their efforts more impactful. ⁣ ⁣ I vividly remember one particular visit to a small, remote village school. We introduced the training materials and platform with great enthusiasm. Initially, the room buzzed with curiosity. Then, hesitation crept in. The students struggled - not because they lacked the will to learn, but because the content assumed foundational knowledge they hadn’t been taught. ⁣ ⁣ The turning point came when a teacher shared a simple but profound observation: "They just need something that understands where they are.” Those words hit home. ⁣ ⁣ We realized we had approached the problem backward. Instead of shaping our solution to meet their needs, we had expected them to mold themselves to fit our solution. It was clear: we needed to pause, step back, and truly understand the challenges they faced. For weeks, we immersed ourselves in their world. We spoke with teachers, observed classrooms, and listened—really listened—to the students. What emerged was a deeper understanding of the hurdles they faced: the lack of prior exposure to core concepts, the overwhelming pressure to succeed without the right tools ...⁣ ⁣ This led us to redesign the program. ⁣The results? Transformational. Students who once hesitated began to engage with newfound confidence. ⁣ ⁣ Reflecting on this experience, I realize that problem-centric design isn’t just about finding solutions. It’s about empathy, about walking in the shoes of those you aim to serve. It’s about asking the hard questions: What do they truly need? ⁣ ⁣ As far as E-Box was concerned, its design was rooted in a problem-centric approach. Having worked extensively in both HigherEd and corporate L&D, we had firsthand experience in recognizing that diving into the problem space was not just important—it was essential. These fields taught us that without fully understanding the unique challenges learners face, even the most advanced solutions would fall short. However, this encounter with school students was a poignant reminder of just how critical it is to stay grounded in this problem-centric design principle.⁣ ⁣ This philosophy continues to guide us as we refine platforms like Image of a Child and School Age. Because technology, no matter how advanced, isn’t the answer on its own. The answer lies in deeply understanding the problem and designing solutions that truly transform lives. ⁣ ⁣ That’s the power of problem-centric design.
