Over 40 CFOs and finance leaders gathered at the Accel CFO Connect last Thursday to explore how automation and AI are transforming the role of finance leaders. Shekhar Kirani, Partner at Accel, spoke about the evolving role of the CFO. He said today’s CFO is no longer just a Chief Financial Officer but also a Chief Metrics Officer, Chief Productivity Officer, and Chief Strategy Officer, driving metrics while balancing costs and efficiency with automation. Amit Jhunjhunwala, CFO at Accel, set the stage by gauging where teams stood in their automation journeys. He then launched a panel discussion featuring Vikash Sureka (BrowserStack), Kiran Thadimarri (udaan.com), and Meeta Aggarwal (United Breweries Ltd.), moderated by Accel's Aiswarya Sarangapani. Key takeaways from the panelists: ✅ The role of CFOs has shifted from core operations to strategic decision-making. Vikash Surekha shared that his team has implemented automation across revenue lifecycle, access management, and engineering, and advises finance teams to make incremental changes for impactful results. ✅ Legacy systems make automation challenging but possible with cross-functional collaboration. Meeta Aggarwal recommends that newer companies start with strong ERP foundations and automate processes early, avoiding later disruptions. ✅ CFOs complement CEOs by driving resilience within constraints. Kiran Thadimarri suggests building in-house expertise for data security and compliance, and decisively addressing AI/automation challenges to prevent gradual setbacks. Thank you to everyone who participated in this discussion. The journey of automation in finance is just beginning, and we look forward to uncovering more actionable insights for CFOs through these conversations.

Big milestones call for bold celebrations! To honour BlackBuck’s IPO, we drew inspiration from the timeless artistry of Indian truck art. Made in collaboration with the incredible Shantanu Suman—who has both documented and celebrated this cultural legacy for more than a decade. These designs pays homage to a heritage as vibrant and enduring as the journey ahead. Congratulations Rajesh, Chanakya, Ramasubramanian, and the team at BlackBuck (Zinka Logistics Solutions Ltd), on taking your company public today. BlackBuck epitomises what it means to tackle truly ‘real’ problems, and is a great example of the impact one can deliver to the industry and society at large. It’s been our privilege at Accel to partner with this exceptional team from their Seed round in 2015. Since Day 1, BlackBuck’s unwavering commitment to understand and solve transportation problems faced by truckers, fleet owners, and shippers has been inspiring. Their commitment and empathy-driven approach has contributed significantly to the Indian logistics ecosystem over the past decade. BlackBuck’s goal wasn’t about simply matching trucks with loads—it was about creating an ecosystem where truckers and businesses could thrive. Being a small part of this journey has been nothing short of humbling. I’ve shared my reflections on the BlackBuck journey, here: https://lnkd.in/gsdt4EkT #AccelFamily #CelebratingBlackBuck
