Take a look at this picture. It was taken today at our Salesforce offices in Tel-Aviv. It shows a few dozens of Salesforce Israel employees in one of our regular all-hands meetings. What's so special about that? Well, that picture was taken exactly 36 hours after Iran launched a massive aerial strike against Israel with 100s of UCAVs, ballistic and cruise missiles carrying about 60 tons(!) of explosives. Thanks to the Israeli Air force, the air forces of the US, UK, France, Jordan and others *and* Israeli innovation and engineering talent who developed the most advanced multi-layered air defense systems in the world - luckily that attack ended up with relatively low impact. It was a sleepless night for all us in Israel who got an advanced notice of the attack and basically spent that night bracing for impact. Now take another look at this picture. 36 hours later - People showing up at the office, talking to each other, having a few laughs, having meetings, discussing deadlines, solving business problems, discussing engineering problems, doing demos, having coffee and lunch together, having an all-hands meeting together. 36 hours ago we were bracing for impact of 60 tons of explosives that were about to fall out of the sky. Ghosting can be very damaging to the employer brand. A positive experience can be a deciding factor in their choice to join your organization. I had the honor of being interviewed by Globes about the recent groundbreaking advancements from OpenAI and Google. It's fascinating to witness the rapid pace of innovation and how these giants are pushing the boundaries of what's possible with AI. Key takeaways from the interview: OpenAI's GPT 4o Launch: OpenAI introduced GPT 4o, a model that’s twice as fast and half the cost of its predecessor. With 100 million active weekly users, the goal is to make AI models even more accessible and integrated into daily life. Exciting features like video calls with ChatGPT are on the horizon! Google's Gemini Upgrade: At Google’s annual developer conference, they showcased enhancements to their AI model, Gemini, which can now handle more data and produce even more sophisticated outputs. Google also emphasized the integration of AI in their search engine and the development of advanced personal assistants. The Future of AI: Both companies are striving towards creating intelligent personal assistants that can handle a myriad of tasks seamlessly. This includes recognizing emotions in voice and eventually through video. In the interview, I mentioned: "Until now, integrating individual text segments into models was a manual process. The future model aims to provide continuous and comprehensive responses, seeing everything you see. However, it's unclear when this will become a reality." Challenging Business Models: It's intriguing to see how these companies might be disrupting their own business models. OpenAI’s move to offer GPT-4 for free aims to build a vast user base, which could convert to premium users in the future. For Google, integrating AI into search might reduce ad revenue but is essential for maintaining relevance. NVIDIA’s Crucial Role: Both OpenAI and Google acknowledge NVIDIA’s pivotal contribution with their advanced GPUs, which are essential for these AI advancements. This collaboration underscores NVIDIA's importance in the AI ecosystem. The AI landscape is incredibly dynamic, and it's a privilege to be part of this revolution. 𝐃𝐨 𝐕𝐞𝐠𝐚𝐧𝐬 𝐄𝐚𝐭 𝐁𝐚𝐜𝐨𝐧? 🥓 Google invests billions in 🇮🇱 Israeli technologies and companies. Some of Google's (or Alphabet Inc.'s) largest acquisitions have been Israeli innovations, from Waze ($1.3Bn acquisition in 2013) to Wiz ($23Bn acquisition discussions in 2024). Yet, the 𝑩𝑫𝑺 𝒎𝒐𝒗𝒆𝒎𝒆𝒏𝒕, which promotes boycotting 🇮🇱 Israeli products, happily uses Google services to spread their message. For instance, the 𝐍𝐨 𝐓𝐡𝐚𝐧𝐤𝐬 𝐚𝐩𝐩, which helps consumers avoid Israeli products in supermarkets, has over 1 million downloads. Ironically, these users are consuming ads and paying Google for the privilege, all while using the 𝐀𝐧𝐝𝐫𝐨𝐢𝐝 𝐎𝐒, another Alphabet Inc. product. This contradiction reveals a lack of a moral compass guiding the BDS movement. It's all about convenience. They boycott Israeli canned goods, fresh produce, and other small items but rely on Israeli technology to identify products to boycott! As a carnivore, I used to love cheese and crackers, couldn't resist the smell of bacon, and enjoyed all kinds of cakes. But as a vegan, none of those appeal to me anymore because I refrain from eating animal products. I commend people who devote themselves to a specific way of life they believe in. However, I think a lot less of those, like BDS supporters, who make noise but don't follow through with their convictions. FUN FACT - Israel's 🍉 Watermelon harvest is greater than any other Middle Eastern (Arab) country and 6X Palestinian production (89M tons). 𝐒𝐮𝐩𝐩𝐨𝐫𝐭 𝐈𝐬𝐫𝐚𝐞𝐥, or don't. Love Jews, or don't. I don't care either way. Just make up your mind and follow through. If you're a vegan, don't eat bacon. 🌱

Recently, I encountered an Insecure Direct Object Reference (IDOR) issue on a utility company’s website, allowing access to other users’ information by simply adjusting a URL parameter. Thanks to the quick action from the company after I reported it, the vulnerability was patched right away. A special thank you to Ran Bar-Zik for publishing the story and helping to bring attention to the importance of strong access control in data security. TL;DR - You're likely overpaying for your cloud-database infrastructure, and it remains the weakest link in your SLA chain. When Tal Tamir and I embarked on our mission to optimize relational databases in the cloud with Rapydo, we initially didn't grasp the real root cause of high database costs. After engaging with hundreds of Amazon RDS users, we realized that high costs are merely a symptom of a few deeper issues. Cloud applications can scale infinitely, but your RDBMS cannot. This disparity creates a significant challenge: while your applications scale out seamlessly, your databases are limited to scaling up. This forces companies to prepare for worst-case scenario spikes around the clock. This challenge is particularly prevalent among the cloud-native businesses we spoke with, where over 90% rely heavily on RDBMS. Even with over-provisioning to handle potential application spikes, DevOps teams cannot be certain that the next spike will be absorbed by the available CPU and I/O resources. This uncertainty results in overpaying for database infrastructure while still facing the risk of performance bottlenecks.
