As Israel celebrates its 76th Independence Day, the amazing guys at the Mamram Alumni Foundation have produced a collection of tips for founders, by founders. It's in Hebrew, but let me translate my own part for the benefit of my English reader friends. Obviously, every journey will be different, and the only constant will be change, so enjoy it! 1. Surround yourself with people you can trust blindly. Co-founders, managers, and team leaders. People that share that excitement and passion for what you are building and are ready to do whatever it takes. 2. Put the customer at the center. It's easy to get excited about something you are building, but always remember there is a customer on the other side that needs to see the value and use it. Always get feedback from customers, so you are aligned with what they need. 3. Don't forget to breathe. This journey is more like a rollercoaster - with ups, downs, and rapid changes. Do yourself and your team a favor and remember to take a moment to recharge. Set ambitious, yet achievable goals, and enjoy the ride. If it's not fun - why doing it? In Hebrew we say "gam zu l'tov," this too is for blessing. We try to find some good or a lesson in anything we face. I'm not sharing the following for sympathy or concern, but instead as a lesson. Some time ago I began to experience a set of symptoms in my right arm:  Weakness, fatigue, pain, a loss of strength, and my hand began to atrophy. The symptoms slowly worsened. Occasionally, picking up my cuppa tea felt like an intense workout, and a handshake could be excruciatingly painful. I then began to experience mild symptoms in my left arm, and thus knew it was time - past time - to consult my doctor. My doctor found that the spaces between my neck vertebrae have compressed, and there is constant pressure on the nerve fibers exiting between those spaces. Fortunately there exists a range of treatment options. I will now work with my medical team to determine the next steps towards restoring full function. Where I want to focus your attention is on the root cause. I've had a 40+ year career in tech. I frequently spend well over 10 hours per day, six days per week, hunched over a computer. There is always another task, another incoming ping, another person or project in need, and during all of that: My posture is terrible. We spend more time with tech than in ages past. We hunch over our desktops, laptops, and other devices. There are several studies on the negative impact poor posture has on us over time. I'll point out this study-based set of recommendations from Princeton University as one example worth your time: Ergonomics & Computer Use Princeton University Health Services https://lnkd.in/dHaYzYkZ I am blessed to live and work in a walking community, which is something my wife and I love to do. Perhaps your community is less walking-friendly, but please do find a way to get up and move about. Exercise; even a walk is a great workout. Stand up, stretch, and move regularly - I use it as an excuse to find my wife and tell her dad-jokes. :) Join a club and attend meetings, so that you're up and moving and socializing in-person. Ensure that your workstation is ergonomically squared away. You'll thank yourself 25+ years later. As for me, please don't worry, I'll be fine. Assess, adapt, and overcome! I have the world's best teammate (my wife) and we will power through. Shavua Tov (have a great week)!

From our perspective at Joule Ventures, it is never a bad time to be investing in #Israel, so long as one remains highly disciplined from a valuation, sector, and stage standpoint. That being said, the current geopolitical volatility combined with an ongoing venture market reset are creating some of the best deployment conditions in Israel we've seen in the past 15 years. #Israel is a world leader in the field of artificial intelligence, a testament to the country's strong focus on research and development and its #innovative spirit. Tech Transfer – Have You Tried It? Bridging the gap between research and commercial application is never simple, but it’s an essential leap for innovation, especially in the #foodtech sector that relies on deeptech and biology that takes time to develop. The journey often starts with tough negotiations over licensing agreements. Universities do an excellent job protecting their IP and ensuring their future incomes, and continues with the clash of cultures - academia thrives on exploration and discovery, while the industry needs fast, market-ready solutions. The timelines and priorities don’t always align. Medium Well Technological Solutions began as a spin-off from a concept that emerged at the The Hebrew University of Jerusalem . Like many ventures starting from academia, our path has been complex. But despite the challenges and the physical distance between our labs (initially 200 km apart and then down to 100 km…), we’ve managed to operate as a cohesive team, supporting each other every step of the way. The most important lessons we learned for positive collaboration: 📢 Effective Communication: we kept regular and transparent communication to bridge the gaps and align goals. 🔬 Leverage University Resources: we enjoyed access to advanced analytics, state-of-the-art labs, and experience across various fields. These resources can significantly boost a lean startup, especially in a sector as technically demanding as foodtech. 📈 Plan for Scale Early: We considered scalability and commercialization from the very beginning, and always focused on finding the right moment to transition from research to product development.

The POTUS seems to have been hijacked not only by dementia, but also by Islamism, which is sweeping the free world like wildfire. As if 9/11 wasn’t enough. As if Oct 7 wasn’t enough. The only party that offers a way out right now are the Republicans as seen in this video, along with the Israelis who are fighting this evil while sacrificing their brightest in the process. Sitting quietly on the sidelines as the foundations of the civil world are shaken by Islamism (take 2, after WW2... IVC Data and Insights report on the Israeli venture market for Q1-Q3 2024 reveals: - $7.4 billion invested in Israeli startups, surpassing the entire 2023 total of $6.9 billion. - $13 billion generated from exits, a 26% increase from 2023's $10.4 billion. - 23% surge in foreign investments year-over-year. - 67% of capital sourced from global investors, with 33% from Israeli funds. - $2.7 billion secured by early-stage startups, the second-highest figure in Israeli startup ecosystem history (after 2022's record). These figures demonstrate investors' confidence in the long-term sustainability of the Israeli startup ecosystem. Trust received, challenge accepted. We're building the future, brick by brick.

Good finds its way to the top! The Israeli tech scene is exploding, and the number of exits and investments we have seen in the last few months is mind-blowing. So, we have packed some of the most talked-about tech leaders into a virtual event titled "Unicorn Nation," which will take place on 6/27. Israeli #founders today need to embrace design thinking This means focusing on the consumer who will be using the service or product that you’re developing The process may have been initially built without thorough consideration, but design thinking allows us to revisit and analyze what exactly is needed in the most efficient way As an example, processes may have been accepted as they are, until someone comes along and suggests a better way... and when that person steps in and proposes a fresh perspective, that's when #innovation happens At its core, design thinking is about understanding what is truly necessary in a process or action, and determining if it can be done differently, and is the ability to understand what the consumer really needs in any given situation or process, whether it's buying groceries, transportation, communication, etc. There are various methods and stages in design thinking. However, I use the Harvard Business School method, which has four stages, the first one being clarification The goal of clarification is to understand and identify the main pain point in the situation. This stage is about filtering out the noise and focusing on the situation at hand, to glean insights that may have been overlooked or undervalued before Often, this pain point is latent, something the consumer experiences but doesn't recognize as the main issue. The methods used at this stage involve observing the situation, being present in the space, and trying to understand what is missing and how the process can be improved The key is to gain a different perspective or insight that others haven't yet identified. If you can solve a problem that everyone is experiencing, then you potentially have a good business idea…. A prime example of the importance of being customer or human-centered, which is at the core of design thinking, is Google's failed Google Glasses project. Google invested about a billion dollars to develop this unique device, but after years of development and attempts to market it, they had to shut it down Why? Because no one was buying it! The product didn't solve a problem for anyone… it was a "nice to have" but not a "must-have" In design thinking, we're looking for solutions to real problems There are three must-have attributes in design thinking to determine if a product is worth investing in: Desirability Feasibility And viability If a product lacks any of these characteristics, it's not a go. These three characteristics are crucial in testing if a product is worth developing and investing time and resources into.
