What an inspiring morning we had yesterday! Maya Schwartz, CEO of the Israeli High-Tech Association, launched the SHE tech conference by Supersonas, which was held at KLA in Migdal HaEmek. Maya highlighted the current situation of the high-tech industry during this challenging period and the presence of women in the high-tech sector, which has even more significant challenges. Did you know that: • Women lead less than 10% of startups founded in the last decade. • Less than 5% of the capital raisings are done by women and with less money for startups, especially in the early stages. • As investment rounds increase, the proportion of women decreases. Our collaboration with Supersonas is very significant for us. The Israeli High-Tech Association is working to promote the presence of women in key positions within the Israeli high-tech sector. Isn’t #smartmobility grand ? Modern vehicles 🚗 include tens of sensors that monitor the internal and external environment of the car, and allow for improved #situationalawareness and #automation. The sensors are connected via different controllers to the vehicles’ network, to which the most critical system of the vehicle (acceleration, braking, steering) are connected as well. Automation and improved situational awareness can definitely improve #safety. However, the increased connectivity also entails significant cyber risks, and requires better #cybersecurity. We discussed the balance between automation and cybersecurity in a ynet panel (Hebrew) with a great lineup of speaker, including Adi Gamliel 💫 , Dan Blumberg and Liat Shaham. As a result of the war, the Israeli defense industry and defense-tech companies have been at the forefront. In a recent article he wrote for @Calcalist, @Ofir Gomeh @Capital Nature CEO explains how we can leverage significant investments made in defense industries to achieve environmental sustainability and overcome climate change. Dual-use technology refers to technologies that can be used for both military and civilian purposes, thereby maximizing the advantages of advanced technologies. A drone is a great example of dual-use technology – on one hand, it can be used for military surveillance, and on the other hand, it can also be used to monitor climate-related changes such as methane and other GHG emissions monitoring, weather patterns, etc. In the article, Ofir provided more examples of dual-use technologies, including satellite technologies and green transportation. Defense industries and Israeli defense-tech companies can play a central role in dual-use technology. Investing in dedicated bodies like Capital Nature can provide the necessary network and market access for these technologies. Every time my wife catches me watching one of these videos, we have a long discussion with me frantically trying to prove to her (unsuccessfully) that a single video like this has more drama than all seasons of "Bridgerton" and "Love is Blind" combined. But I want to point out something different today. Fresh out of college, I read a book called "The Face of the Battle" by the English military historian John Keegan. What makes this book really interesting is Keegan's effort to recreate some of history's most famous battles - Agincourt, Waterloo, and the Somme - from the perspective of the ordinary soldiers who experienced the action firsthand on the front lines. He effectively dispels many commonly held notions, such as the effectiveness of cavalry charges in the Middle Ages, and demonstrates that the reality of battle is far more chaotic, isolated, and dependent on luck and individual outcomes than many historians care to admit. Regular soldiers, lacking the luxury of considering the bigger picture or having a bird's-eye view of the battlefield, have only one goal: survival. This same logic applies to hockey. Watch one of these videos (and consider that National Hockey League (NHL) is even faster and has a smaller rink) and witness firsthand how the game truly feels compared to the sanitized view from TV cameras: fast, chaotic, aggressive, with split-second decisions and chances throughout. Nearly all goals come from momentarily chances, not from some meticulously planned combinations. So, the next time you encounter some beer-bellied critic on his fifth drink at the arena or bar, bemoaning a player's supposed blindness or slowness, don't hesitate to call him out on that. #hockey #nhl #khl #tactics #strategy

Israel is a giant playground if you can perceive it as such. One of my adventures in the corridors of Israeli academia (it’s a comedy. They all are) involved an esoteric investigation into a new class of numbers. There was a notion that there is a negative zero and a positive zero, and that it is somehow useful. I came in to the lab, understood what is required, and wrote the code that produces negative and positive zeros, and queries that perform statistical analysis on the outputs, etc, etc, etc. Negative zeros, positive zeros, perhaps useless in any case aside from slippage calculation in zero-ish trade thresholds. The company, founded in Tel Aviv, has partnerships with global leaders and is testing its tech with 30+ automakers.   - Valens Semiconductor: Valens Semiconductor's technology enables fast communication in audio-video and automotive fields. Their chips are in products from LG, Sony, and Samsung, and they’re enhancing vehicle safety with innovations like rear cameras for trucks.   - Innoviz Technologies: Innoviz develops LiDAR technologies and is a pioneer in level 3 autonomous driving. Their sensors are now in BMW vehicles in Europe, with global expansion on the horizon.   - Hailo: This semiconductor unicorn's AI processors power a range of devices, allowing them to run complex applications without internet connectivity. 4% of the Israeli #companies generate a quarter of the state's #income from #taxes - this amazing figure is the strength of the Israeli #hightechsector. But the more interesting figure concerns what is the contribution of the corporate tax and who generates most of it: only 15% of the hi-tech contribution to the country's treasury comes from #Corporatetax and the rest from #taxation on #employees' #salaries. There are many reasons for this, among them: the fact that #humancapital is the basis of the #technologicalindustry, and the high wages that its employees receive, along side the low corporate tax that countries (#Israel among them) offer to #technologycompanies in order to attract them to their territory.
