Due to the events in Israel, I've been getting many questions from Founders & CEOs about fundraising and building partnerships in the US. Having worked there for 12 years, summarizing the key points from the conversations here: 1. As the United States is more isolated than Europe, Americans are less exposed to war and global issues, which can make them more sensitive to them. It’s important to address this head-on and explain what life is like in Israel and the real impact. Although your U.S. counterparts may be polite, they will most likely be concerned about it. 2. U.S. companies are known to sign deals faster than other regions such as in APAC or EMEA. For this reason, it’s important to respond quickly to messages, with accurate information, and to be prepared. Structure the deal quickly and carefully – this is in contrast to a place like China, where you might work on the relationship for many months and start business proceedings. In the U.S., the business takes precedent over the relationship i.e. the merits of the deal. 3. I’ve seen Israelis assume that they are similar in professional style to Americans, but this is typically not the case. Israelis can be perceived as casual, direct, and sometimes arrogant; and we need to be aware of that. It can help if you’re able to work with someone who has experience in both worlds and can navigate cultures. 4. To sign a large deal or partnership, traveling to the U.S. is typically required. Being there to shake hands is very important, and most investors will not agree to a deal without multiple physical meetings to create both a personal and professional relationship. Joe Hayon shares his candid thoughts on the Israeli government's strategic role in the high-tech sector: ״The government needs to dial back on global politics and take on a more hands-on approach in managing the economy. It's time to shift focus and provide more substantial support to the startups that have real potential and as they are important to the Israeli economy, attracting foreign investments and creating jobs. The Israel Innovation Authority currently offers grants of hundreds of thousands of dollars to thousands of startups and does an excellent job of helping to lift these startups. However, founders still need risk management and business management tools, training, and coaching, meaning that having a great idea is not enough to build a business that can develop technology and market a new product.The concept that the core tech is so great that someone will buy the company, is what causes founders to refrain from ongoing learning of the addressable markets needs, often developing a product that nobody will want to use or even needs. The market is your workplace, and not the tech lab. Founding a startup does not come with work instructions, so the complexity of building a startup is often underestimated, while the value of an idea, initial prototype or proof of concept based on academic research is greatly overestimated. It often takes years and tens of millions of dollars to reach a break-through product, and thousands of startups will have a low probability of raising funds beyond the grant or a seed investment. I believe it's better to allocate more resources to fewer companies that demonstrate strong growth opportunity, with a key component being the potential of the founders. I believe that this approach will leave more companies in Israeli control, meaning that they will grow into larger entities, to further strengthen in the Israeli economy and the dependence of the global markets on Israeli based technologies and business corporations.״ In an industry as dynamic as high-tech, strategic investment and professional support by people with a track record are crucial for startup survival and growth. Joe's perspective challenges us to look at funding capabilities, and business management skills as what define the core potential of a startup. AI Therapist Services Surge and the Drama: Concerns At Geridoc, we've been diving deep into the world of Large Language Models (LLMs) and exploring their potential in revolutionizing medical diagnostics. Our team has been experimenting with a variety of models, including GPT-3.5, GPT-4, and PMC-LLaMA, to support doctors in their daily endeavors. From aiding in accurate diagnoses to suggesting treatment paths, and even crafting crystal-clear emails to enhance patient-doctor communication, we're on it. As a really small company, the journey ahead is exhilarating, sometimes scary. Yet, there's a sick twist on the horizon. Come 2024, we're noticing a surge in startups and indie hacker services that seem to be making a quick buck off the decline in mental health, by launching AI therapist services. Yes, you heard that right. 🤯 Drawing from my experience working alongside mental health professionals and general physicians, particularly in the wake of COVID, here's my two cents: Post-COVID, Southern Europe has seen a spike in social phobia and depression diagnoses, driven by factors like fear, financial struggles, grief, and social isolation. Enter Big LLMs. They've become a mainstream marvel, offering invaluable assistance to therapists. As Blyler and Seligman (2023) put it, “ChatGPT enhances the work of the therapist and coach by doing the ‘busy-work’ of generating a narrative identity and outlining a panoply of useful and evidence-based techniques for the human coach/therapist to capitalize upon.” However, let's be clear: LLMs aren't ready to replace therapists. There's a whole can of worms regarding ethics, liability, and patient data privacy that needs addressing. In my view, AI therapist services are essentially capitalizing on social isolation and phobia, potentially hindering timely access to crucial, specialized mental healthcare. With no regulation in sight, the future of such services is murky at best. Particularly concerning are those developed by indie hackers, who may not prioritize safety and guidelines. Tools that delay access to specialized care shouldn't even be on the table. Mental suffering is not a commodity. Let's not treat it as such. #AI #Therapists #AITherapists #MentalHealth

📊H1 2024 Healthcare Investment Report📊> Reflecting the ACTUAL consequences of the war Analyzing current investment trends provides crucial insights into Israel's future health innovation landscape. With transaction cycles often exceeding 6 months, this report offers a forward-looking perspective on the sector's trajectory. In short, the situation is not good. 📍 Decrease in Invements: Total investment activity decreased by 33% in H1 2024 compared to H1 2023, and private investment decreased by nearly 60% when compared to quarterly activity before October 7th. 📌 All three sectors of healthcare innovation have been affected. 📍Reliance on Non-Traditional Investments: to compensate for lower funding activity - Early stages have resorted to grants and extensions to stay afloat, while later stages rely on PIPE deals. Neither of these are sustainable. 📍Mid-Stage Ongoing Success: Even despite the conflict, mid stage (A/B) rounds noticeably increased in H1 2024 when compared to H1 2023, which is a testament to both the resiliency and quality of emerging startups. This includes a $47M investment to Empathy, $31M to Sensi.AI, and $15M to Opmed.ai. 📍Allocating Funds: Team8 announced a new $500M fund which will allocate a portion of the proceeds to health. Ibex Investors announced a $106M early-stage fund. And both Greylock and Sequoia Capital, two long-standing brand-name Silicon Valley funds, announced they will renew operations in Israel. The importance of healthcare innovation Israel cannot be understated and should be seen as national asset. Israel has achieved a dominant position in the cybersecurity space, but it is barely scratching the surface of the potential of the global healthcare market. It is impossible to ignore the relevance of Israeli healthcare innovation and its contribution to the wider Israeli economy. The continuing conflict, and the higher risk profile of Israel, will undoubtedly continue to harm investment activity in healthcare. While there is significant government involvement already, it may be time to consider adjusting governmental programs to face current challenges and maintain a competitive edge for the future. ONLINE BOOKING FOR MEDICAL CENTERS ---- Back in Russia, it was a must. You don't have online booking - patients will go to a clinic that has it. Period. Here in Israel Health IT and service level in medical centers is way less advanced (but the doctors are way better 😁), but it's gonna change. And we are working on that=) All clinics using our solution have online booking, and, hopefully, the number of them will increase. We've been doing online booking for over 10 years, and yes, we know A LOT about it. Online booking helps you: 1. Increase site conversion level up to 2x 2. Increase the level of patient's service 3.
