  • The Permian and Appalachian basins are the most productive oil and gas producing basins in the US. In terms of wellheads and infrastructure they are the most prolific, too. It is therefore understandable, that despite a relatively lower Methane Loss Rate, than the Uinta basin for example, the overall methane emissions per annum are much higher - there are simply more potential points of failure. In Uinta, Methane Loss Rates are the highest in the nation; Why is that? It is a more mature basin, with lower production which may mean significantly aged infrastructure and low investment in maintenance and monitoring. The monitoring challenge in both cases is extremely hard for producers. Installing fixed ground sensors everywhere is simply not feasible, and deploying surveying teams is inefficient and costly. This is where new developments in satellite-based emissions monitoring and detection are changing the game. With flybys three or more times a week on every single wellhead and high-resolution source point detection, LDAR teams can be assigned efficiently for surgical remediation. Bringing ClimateTech & EnergyTech to Market

Why I'm talking to oil & gas companies at the world's biggest climate conference - and why it matters. As I reflect on my first visit to COP, I was struck by an unexpected realization. Attending the world's largest climate change conference with the aim of building relationships with oil and gas companies seemed counterintuitive at first. However, the trip has reinforced for me the critical importance of emissions intelligence in our global transition to clean energy. Key Market Drivers: 1️⃣ The Transition Takes Time While the shift to clean energy is accelerating, it's a gradual process. During this transition, it's crucial to help the oil and gas industry reduce their emissions. 2️⃣ Methane Matters Methane is 80 times more potent than CO2 as a greenhouse gas. Any effort to reduce planned and unplanned methane emissions significantly impacts our ability to mitigate climate change. 3️⃣ Comprehensive Monitoring is Key No single solution for monitoring methane provides a complete picture. A combination of ground, flight, and satellite monitoring is essential. 4️⃣ Industry Challenges and Our Role The OGMP standard is intentionally rigorous, requiring companies to use multiple technologies. As suppliers, it's our responsibility to support the O&G sector through this transition, not just push them into it. 5️⃣ Global Regulatory Landscape - Japan is preparing to follow the US and Europe with new regulations. Sompo, the giant Japanese Insurance company announced a partnership with Momentick to prepare for new risk reduction policies and use cases. - Australia is developing a strategy for methane mitigation. 6️⃣ The Future of US Methane Regulations Surprisingly, many believe that even the Trump administration might not discontinue recent US methane regulations. Reasons include: - The regulations are part of the IRA, which has been financially beneficial to red states. - O&G CEOs, including Exxon's, have urged against changing the regulations. - Constant regulatory changes create uncertainty for the industry. - Cutting methane emissions increases product value, benefiting companies. At Momentick - Emissions Intelligence , I'm excited to help lead our strategy in accelerating and supporting this crucial aspect of the energy transition. My role in shaping Momentick's approach to emissions intelligence is not just a professional commitment, but a personal passion for driving meaningful impact in mitigating climate change. And last but not least, thanks to Daniel Kashmir and Yam Meirovitz, my partners in crime on a successful COP29 conference. Work is not hard when you're around great people. #COP29 #EmissionsIntelligence #ClimateAction #Momentick

  • The devastating fact about vented and fugitive methane leaks is that they can go on for years, impacting the climate and costing millions. Here is one such case. This major methane leak was detected at an oil and gas production field. We monitored and quantified methane emissions from this site for the period between May 2019 and May 2022. Emission rates were consistently above 2,000 Kg/h and went up to 5,439 Kg/h, over 50 times the threshold for what the EPA defines as a ‘Super Emitter.’ In cases like these–where the leak is huge and the facility remote–it is vital to have automated monitoring technologies that quickly and accurately pinpoint leaks so that LDAR teams can be mobilized effectively. 🛰️🌎🛰️ #satellite #sustainability #energy #refinery #esg #climatetech #greentech

    Co-Founder & CEO @ Momentick 🛰️ GHG emissions reduction

Today was Energy day at COP29 Azerbaijan and I had the honor of engaging with Azerbaijan's Minister of Energy, Mikayil Jabbarov. Momentick's satellite-based emission intelligence is bridging the gap between ambitious climate goals and leak mitigation action on the ground. The first industrial oil well was drilled outside Baku in 1847 and a major part of the country’s GDP is anchored in O&G. For Azerbaijan, balancing economic development and climate action is a delicate issue. With that, everything I’m seeing here indicates that carbon emissions, and methane in particular, are being taken very seriously. #technology #sustainability #greentech #climatechange #naturalgas
