I am immensely proud of the BT Young Scientist Business Bootcamp initiative created in BT Ireland in 2009 and in collaboration with Nova UCD since 2013. This program was designed to bridge the gap between scientific innovation and the business world. Our goal is to equip young scientists with the entrepreneurial skills needed to transform their ground-breaking ideas into viable business ventures. We recognised the need to support young innovators beyond the laboratory. By providing them with commercialisation skills, we aim to foster a new generation of scientists who can bring their innovations to market successfully. Why BT Young Scientist Business Bootcamp?: Skills Development: Participants gain invaluable insights into technology commercialisation and entrepreneurship through hands-on workshops and expert presentations. Anaerobic Digestion and our recently announced National Biomethane Strategy - the benefits for Ireland Great interview with prof Jerry D Murphy from MaREI on RTE with Claire Byrne - well worth a listen. IDA chief executive Michael Lohan believes that data centres are “absolutely central” to achieving a sustainable digital transition in Ireland. Speaking to The Currency, Mr Lohan said large energy users have an important role to play in the development of greater renewable energy resources and a more robust grid, both of which are important for attracting inward investment. “That digital transition and that sustainable transition, to me, are the two sides of the one coin, and both have to move together, and large energy users such as data centres would be a critical component in bringing that ambition to life from an Ireland perspective,” he said. Interesting to hear my former Microsoft colleague, the brilliant Kieran McCorry , on a panel discussion earlier discussing recent research around the use of #genAI solutions in Ireland. Research showed that rates of adoption are much slower for indigenous Irish companies, compared to multinationals based here. This highlights a potential risk that Irish companies are losing ground in terms of gaining benefits from the use of #AI. Reasons cited include lack of understanding of potential benefits as well as lack of plans around upskilling staff.
