You may have seen in the media the incident where a manager in the independent ambulance sector had his case dismissed despite exceeding the speed limit. The individual involved had no clinical qualifications and was driving an unmarked, 440bhp car at 90mph, covert blue-lights were fitted to the vehicle.   The case was dismissed as no evidence was offered by the Crown Prosecution Service. Notwithstanding, our understanding is that the Department for Transport (DfT) is drafting wording to address the ‘grey area’ on the interpretation of “ambulance purposes” within Section 19 of the 1984 Road Traffic Act.   At their recent Board meeting, IAA Directors agreed to publish a statement distancing the Association and our Members from the egregious use of speed, whose actions undermine the reputation responsible providers in the sector work hard to maintain. GLAA Senior Investigating Officer Martin Plimmer said there are more than 30 ongoing investigations into care agencies operating illegally and that his organisation still "doesn't know the full extent" of the problem. "It is our number one priority at the moment," he said. "It's the one area, the sector of business - because we deal with labour exploitation - where we have the most intelligence coming into us. Care is by far the number one issue for us as an agency." As a qualified investigative interviewer, with over 22 years experience in the RAF Police, I became pretty proficient in carrying out interviews and taking contemporanious interview notes. These skill sets have served me well, ever since. https://lnkd.in/euwKxEte However, since leaving the RAF Police in 2011 there have been some significant changes, e.g., As a causal factor of the COVID19 pandemic, we have seen an increased adoption of remote working practices. Now, the admirably the PCI Security Standards Council have responded to address this in the PCI DSS v4.0 Report On Compliance (ROC) template, by requiring the QSAs to annotate what parts of the level 1 assessment have been carried out remotely. Personally, one area that doesn't tend to be as effective is when you need to conduct an interview remotely. Somehow, it's not quite the same as having the opportunity of having the interviewee in the room with you. This is the new world that we all now live in! With this evolving world, I've been looking into how technology might be able to help. Well, in a level 1 PCI DSS assessment, the QSA may be faced with upto 190 points that need to be proven through interview, so being prepared with an interview plan and why not use automated note taking features. In advance of the interviews, you can be open and transparent with the entity, informing them that these are the points that need to be proven during the interviews and that you would like a list of interviewees that would be best placed to evidence these points, during an interview. Let's face it, all this information is published on the PCI Security Standards Council's website, so is available to the entity, and the interviewees are more akin to being witnesses than being suspects. #pcidss #pcidssv4 #pcicompliance #softskillsdevelopment

Home Office figures highlight the chaos in policing and its impact. Over 5,000 left the police service through voluntarily exit schemes in 2023/24, double that of 2010/11 (56% versus 25%). That exodus of experienced and skilled officers is catastrophic and costing a fortune. Recruitment is failing. The Met lost significant funding after it failed to meet recruitment targets. Couple that with the number of specialist officers handing in their firearms, tasers and those being moved to plug the gaps on Borough and we have the ‘perfect storm’. 2025 will see the end of the retention schemes for experienced officers causing more issues. An ineffective, poorly led and demoralised police service will lead to more violence and crime on our streets. There is an urgent need for change.

“Today, Parliament tables a discussion on the Terrorism (Protection of Premises) Bill, otherwise known as Martyn's Law. It is named after Martyn Hett, one of the twenty-two people murdered in the Manchester Arena Attack of 2017.    Martyn’s mother, Figen Murray, has been a fierce campaigner for the legislation since 2019. These new discussions are a promising sign that the Bill will finally become law, after years of tireless campaigning from Figen and the wider security community.    Martyn's Law will ensure that proactive threat prevention is in place across the buildings we monitor and protect. The transformative law highlights the need for well-informed staff, training and practicing procedures to ensure effective measures are in place.    We need to enhance security across the UK, and Martyn's Law will prevent attacks like that at the Manchester Arena in 2017 from ever happening again. 🆕 We have announced our intention to fine the Police Service of Northern Ireland (PSNI) £750,000 for failing to protect the personal information of its entire workforce. The proposed fine relates to an incident where personal information - including surname, initials, rank, and role of all 9,483 serving PSNI officers and staff - was included in a "hidden" tab of a spreadsheet published online in response to a freedom of information request. John Edwards, UK Information Commissioner, said: “The sensitivities in Northern Ireland and the unprecedented nature of this breach created a perfect storm of risk and harm – and show how damaging poor data security can be.” Our investigation has provisionally found the PSNI internal procedures and sign-off protocols for the safe disclosure of information were inadequate. The aim of the approach is to ensure public money is not diverted away from where it is needed most, while maintaining the right to issue fines in the most serious of cases. We have also issued PSNI with a preliminary enforcement notice requiring the Service to improve the security of personal information when responding to freedom of information requests. The Commissioner’s findings are provisional, and he will carefully consider any representations PSNI make before making a final decision on the fine amount and the requirements in the enforcement notice. The PSNI data breach from last year serves as a stark reminder of the importance of protecting the personal information of your customers and staff. 🚨 NCA Takedown Major Fraud Platform Russian Coms The UK’s National Crime Agency (NCA) shut down Russian Coms, a major caller ID spoofing platform used by criminals to make over 1.8 million scam calls. The extradition has been sought of our Client by the UK Authorities for his alleged involvement in an INLA ambush of an RUC patrol in 1975 at Dungiven, Co. Derry and other activities to include attempted murder, firearms and explosive offences. Our Client was deported back to Ireland from the US in 2003 following lengthy proceedings before the US Courts from 1997 arising from the UK Government raising issues following our Client’s escape from Long Kesh Prison Camp in 1976. The decision of the PSNI toselectively pursue historical political matters 50 years later and following the controversial enactment in May of the Tory’s ‘NI Troubles (Legacy and Reconciliation) Act 2024 bringing all prosecutions and inquests arising from the conflict between the years of 1966-1998 in the North to a close, now leaves more questions than answers. Having secured bail for Mr McNicholl our Mr Mulholland Principal Solicitor stated; ‘This extradition request sought by the PSNI under the terms of the Trade & Cooperation Agreement is further evidence of the selective political persecution of particular individuals. The request and the motives for the extradition and proposed prosecution are not only flawed but deeply concerning. It's all about getting stuck in and involved, from dealing with fare evasion, football to assaults and even the more serious incidents such as persons in crisis.
