🚨 𝗗𝗲𝗹𝗮𝘆𝗲𝗱 𝗛𝗼𝘀𝗽𝗶𝘁𝗮𝗹 𝗗𝗶𝘀𝗰𝗵𝗮𝗿𝗴𝗲𝘀 𝗗𝘂𝗲 𝘁𝗼 𝗜𝗻𝘀𝘂𝗳𝗳𝗶𝗰𝗶𝗲𝗻𝘁 𝗦𝗼𝗰𝗶𝗮𝗹 𝗖𝗮𝗿𝗲 𝗔𝗰𝗰𝗲𝘀𝘀: 𝗔 𝗚𝗿𝗼𝘄𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝗖𝗼𝗻𝗰𝗲𝗿𝗻 According to the CQC State of Care 2023/24 report, in April 2024, 45% of hospital discharge delays for patients with stays exceeding 14 days were due to a lack of available care home beds and home-based care options—affecting nearly 4,000 people daily. These delays significantly impact not only patient recovery and well-being but also hospital capacity, limiting beds available for incoming patients. Regional disparities worsen this problem. The North East and Yorkshire regions face higher delays due to limited home-based care services, while London sees more delays for care home beds. These findings indicate an urgent need to enhance care accessibility, particularly in regions facing severe shortages.
