Across roads, greenways, national cycle network, light rail and metro – we keep Ireland moving
About us
Transport Infrastructure Ireland's role as a state agency is to provide sustainable transport infrastructure and services, deliver a better quality of life, support economic growth, and respect the environment. Under the aegis of the Department of Transport, we work at both national and regional level, in partnership with Local Authorities regarding national roads and greenways, and the National Transport Authority (NTA) regarding light rail and metro. TII was established through a merger of the National Roads Authority (NRA) and the Railway Procurement Agency (RPA) under the Roads Act 2015, and was set up to deliver and operate safe and efficient light rail and national road networks. In 2021, TII was delegated additional functions in relation to active travel. We are leading the development of an ambitions new National Cycle Network for Ireland on behalf of the Department of Transport. At TII we are building a more sustainable economy and a better quality of life for everyone. 🏆 Earlier this month the Civil Engineering Consortium won the Outstanding Contribution Award at the Department of Education Regional Skills Awards! Along with the Atlantic Technological University, the consortium is made up of representatives of the following bodies: 1. Construction Industry Federation (CIF) 2. Civil Engineering Contractors Association (National) 3. Association of Consulting Engineers of Ireland (ACEI) 4. Engineers Ireland 5. Uisce Éireann Irish Water 6. Local Government Management Agency (LGMA) 7. Transport Infrastructure Ireland 🛠️ The Civil Engineering Industry has a critical role to play in supporting the objectives under the National Development Plan, Housing for All and Climate Action Plan, which will require industry and state agencies to work together to attract and retain civil engineering skills and talent. In this light, the Consortium worked with the Apprenticeship Council, in its role as the sanctioning body, to expedite the approval of a Civil Engineering Apprenticeship for the delivery of the programme by January 2023. Since then more than 144 apprentices have started the course. This is the first time in Ireland that a Level 8 or Level 9 Degree in Civil Engineering can be got through the apprenticeship route. 👏 Well done to Alastair de Beer for his work on this! MetroLink is a transformative piece of new public transport infrastructure, the first of its kind in Ireland. It will comprise of a high-capacity, high-frequency, modern and efficient metro railway, with 16 new stations running from Swords to Charlemont. 🔗 The alignment will link Dublin Airport, Irish Rail, DART, Dublin Bus and Luas services and create a fully integrated public transport network for the Greater Dublin Area (GDA). 🔑 As well as linking major transport hubs, MetroLink will connect key destinations including Ballymun, the Mater Hospital, the Rotunda Hospital, Dublin City University (DCU) and Trinity College Dublin (TCD). Much of the 18.8km route will run underground, an exciting innovation for Irish public transport. ⏱️ When operations commence, there will be trains every three minutes during peak periods. This can rise to a service every 90/ 100 seconds by 2060 if required. 🧑🧑🧒🧒 The system will be capable of carrying up to 20,000 passengers per hour in each direction. When completed, passengers will be able to travel from Swords to Dublin city centre in approximately 25 minutes. It is estimated that MetroLink will carry up to 53 million passengers annually. #MetroLinkDublin | #Ireland2040 | Transport Infrastructure Ireland | National Transport Authority https://lnkd.in/eBUEPw4b

🔔 Today is International Human Rights Day, commemorating the signing of the United Nations Universal Declaration of Human Rights. This year's theme is to acknowledge the importance and relevance of human rights in our everyday lives, which includes the equitable access to transport. 🎙️ Last year, we launched ‘All Aboard: TII’s Accessibility Podcast’. The podcast was developed to provide a platform for designers, advocates and researchers to share what accessible public transport means to them, and how they have incorporated accessibility in their work. Their insights are enriched by the stories and lived experiences of people with disabilities, their family members, and carers. In honour of International Human Rights Day, and last week’s International Day of Persons with Disabilities, we are resharing All Aboard, which can be accessed here: https://lnkd.in/d39Hn8xi https://lnkd.in/epNTHCvs Sarah O' Donnell Kathleen Jacobi Rachel Cahill Claire Scott

🔔 If travelling this weekend, take some time to be aware of the weather warnings in place, and what that might mean for you. 🚘 Drive safely this weekend: reduce speed, keep extra distance, stay alert and always check weather updates before making that journey. #BeWinterReady #Plan #Prepare #BeAware
#StormDarragh has become the fourth named storm of the 2024/25 #StormSeason and is expected to be a particularly dangerous and impactful one, with strong winds across the country from this afternoon and into tomorrow. Met Éireann has issued 🔴⚠️ #RedWindWarnings for a number of west and northwest counties and for Wicklow in the east, while the rest of the country will be under an 🟠⚠️ #OrangeWindWarning until tomorrow morning. #StormDarragh's north-westerly winds are unusual for Ireland in terms of the combination of such strength and wind direction and mean that extra care should be taken. 🙏 As in any #ExtremeWeather situation, our meteorologists have been busy tracking the storm and its potential impacts, and updating communications to the general public, as well as local authorities and emergency management stakeholders across the country. 📣 As this is a dynamic situation, with so many specific warnings in places, these are subject to slight changes as things progress, so please make sure to keep informed through the Met Éireann website 💻 and app 📲. https://lnkd.in/gWnnysyT For the full #MeteorologistsCommentary, visit 🔗 ⬇️ https://lnkd.in/gTDab2HE

🏆 TII are delighted to announce that the TII Soft Landscape Treatment Guide for Urban Transport Environments was crowned the winner in the Landscape Technical & Theory category at the Irish Landscape Institute (ILI) Awards last week! 🌲 Increasing understanding of the potential of greenspace within Irelands Transport Infrastructure can play a pivotal role in combatting climate change and biodiversity loss. The TII suite of soft landscape documents aims to highlight the importance of these spaces and provide guidance on implementing a variety of enhancements to optimise their design and delivery. The purpose of these documents is to demonstrate how the multifaceted benefits of soft landscape treatments in urban transport environments can be achieved. 🎉 Huge congratulations to Eimear Fox and Arup for their recognition on this work! 🟣 Yesterday was International Day of Persons with Disabilities, an annual awareness day which aims to promote the rights and well-being of individuals with disabilities globally. This day supports the advocation of equal opportunities, accessibility and the removal of barriers for those with disabilities across different areas of society, including public transportation. ♿ The International Day of Persons with Disabilities focuses on the creation of an inclusive environment for all. This includes ensuring that public transport infrastructure is designed to accommodate individuals with disabilities, such as wheelchair ramps, audio announcements, and tactile paving. 🟪 In recognition of this important day, three Luas depots turned purple! This was intended to symbolise acceptance, diversity and inclusion of people of all abilities. #PurpleLights24 #InternationalDisabilityDay #IDPD2024 Transdev Ireland,
