Our own Dr. Ann O'Connell joined Elena Kyria of elemed on the final episode of her 'Career Diaries' podcast for 2024 in recent days. Ann talked about the industry-driven networks she manages which leverage government funding to design and deliver bespoke training programmes, promote lifelong learning, and support workforce development, including Ann and Elena discussed two significant projects that exemplify the work of our network: 1️⃣ The launch of a Postgraduate Master’s in End-to-End Sterility Assurance (Level 9), which was the first of its kind in Ireland and Europe, and a prime example of industry and academia collaborating effectively. It highlights how companies can embed their expertise into academic institutions to address real-world challenges while building future capabilities. 2️⃣ The second project involved in-depth industry research to produce a comprehensive report on the current and future skills needs of the Medtech and manufacturing sectors. 'Talent to Thrive: The Future Skills Report for Ireland's Medtech Sector, 2024–2028'. This pivotal report was developed by the Irish Medtech Skillnet in collaboration with Irish Medtech with a clear purpose - to map the future skills needs of the Irish Medtech sector across five strategic pillars: Manufacturing, Research, Development and Innovation, Sustainability, Regulatory Affairs, and Human Resources. The report captured the full scope of what the sector needs now and in the future, and it has already become a roadmap for companies and stakeholders preparing to meet the evolving demands of Ireland’s medtech sector, which plays a vital role on a global scale.
