The Global Plastic Treaty: What’s Next? 🌏 Exploring transformative steps from the Global Plastic Treaty negotiations that could drastically reduce plastic pollution. While this video was taken before the recent INC-5 session ended in Busan by Benedict Wermter (@bulesampah), the insights remain critical. The big questions: 1️⃣ Phasing Out Certain Plastics: Can we truly ban problematic items like sachets? 2️⃣ Eliminating Harmful Chemicals: Will legislation finally address PFAS, BPA, and phthalates? 3️⃣ Capping Plastic Production: Is limiting plastic production globally achievable? Unfortunately, the recent INC-5 session in Busan ended without a binding agreement, but progress was made, with a draft text paving the way for future negotiations. The EU and over 100 countries remain committed to pushing for bold action when talks resume in 2025. The urgency remains—plastic waste is expected to triple by 2060. 🌍 UI Biofest 2024 x VEL: Solutions for Climate Change and Biodiversity🌱 At this inspiring event UI Biology Festival held in University of Indonesia, we explored the critical connection between plastic waste pollution and climate change, emphasizing the far-reaching impacts on our planet. Veritas Edukasi Lingkungan Co-Founder and Director, Benedict Wermter (@bulesampah) highlighted how excessive plastic consumption fuels global warming and engaged the audience in discussions about holding industries accountable for their pollution. One key takeaway? Consumer buying power is a powerful tool to push for industry responsibility.
