VUKMIR + ASSOCIATES, LLC are happy to announce that in cooperation with Taylor Wessing, we advised Lightspeed on financing in drone start-up Orqa FPV. Croatian start-up Orqa has raised €5.8 million in its first round of seed financing. The first round was led by Lightspeed Venture Partners (‘Lightspeed’), with participation from additional funders Radius Capital and Decisive Point, as well as existing investor Day One Capital. Lightspeed was comprehensively advised on all legal aspects of the transaction by Taylor Wessing, with a team from Ireland and Germany led by Berlin-based VC partner Norman Roechert. VUKMIR + ASSOCIATES, LLC' team led by Managing Partner Tomislav Pedišić advised on all Croatian aspects of the transaction.   Founded in 2017 in Osijek, technology company Orqa develops autonomous drone solutions, including avionics components, radio systems, drones, pilot goggles and controls. With the raised capital, the start-up intends to scale its development, production capacities and sales worldwide to meet the increasing demand for cost-effective and advanced autonomous drone technologies. The company is benefiting from a favorable market situation: demand for drone systems is increasing in the military sector due to the challenges posed by the ongoing conflict in Ukraine, but demand in the commercial sector is also growing. At the same time, Orqa is benefiting from the instability of global supply chains and meeting the demand for reliable and complete end-to-end drone solutions made in Europe.   Lightspeed is a multi-stage venture capital firm focusing on supporting innovation and trends in the enterprise, consumer and healthcare sectors with an emphasis on category-defining businesses that change the way we interact today and enable a visionary tomorrow. It was our great pleasure to assist on a cross-border project “CEFTA Intellectual Property and Related Rights 2021-03”. The specific purpose of the project was to support developing a regional legal framework on trade-related aspects of intellectual property, related EU Acquis and best European practices and standards. The Joint Committee of CEFTA now adopted the Decision on Trade-Related Aspects of Intellectual Property Rights, applicable to CEFTA Parties. Mladen Vukmir attends today and tomorrow the 32nd Croatian Arbitration Days organized by the Permanent Court of Arbitration of the Croatian Chamber of Economy. There are two framework topics in this year’s Conference programme. The first being “Construction Contracts / Infrastructure Projects and Resolution of Disputes” and the second is “International Arbitration – Selected Procedural Issues”. XII Međunarodna Autorska Kreativna Konferencija #MAKK održana je u Zagrebu 28. i 29.11. u dvorani Gorgona Muzej suvremene umjetnosti. Drugi dan konferencije bio je posvećen pravnim pitanjima, osobito novim dilemama vezanima uz pojavu i nagli rast umjetne inteligencije #UI. Iako nije bilo lako iznjedriti zaključke, pitanja koja su otvorena bila su relevantna, a diskusija na očekivanoj razini. Sve je očitije da je pravnički način traženja i nuđenja odgovora putem analogije sa rješenjima iz analognog svijeta bio pogrešni put od samih početaka prodora digitalnog okruženja, te da takav pristup ne samo da ne daje potrebne odgovore, nego da su odgovori koje dobivamo pogrešni u digitalnom kontekstu. Razlike u konceptima analognog i digitalnog svijeta veće su nego li smo to mogli pretpostaviti. Sada moramo uložiti još više napora kako bismo pronašli smislene odgovore i radnje u novom okruženju.
