[INTEGRATING PHILANTHROPY: A HOLISTIC APPROACH TO WEALTH MANAGEMENT] #PhilanthropyWorkshop Li Foundation chanced upon a sharing session with Mr. Anthony Gao, Head of Philanthropy Services at Pictet Wealth Management Asia during one of his trips to Singapore. Currently based in Hong Kong, Mr. Gao is a seasoned professional with a diverse background in prestigious organizations such as the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation, where Lionel met Mr. Gao for the first time in Seattle. Mr. Gao shared with us how #AsianPhilanthropy is evolving. In Asia, there exists a longstanding tradition of charitable giving and this is deeply rooted in the region's diverse cultures, political systems, and religious beliefs, making philanthropy in Asia uniquely distinctive. A few key trends observed includes philanthropists becoming more transparent and strategic in their giving. Strategic philanthropy acknowledges that despite its growth, philanthropy falls short in addressing global challenges. This approach, favoured by younger, next-generation philanthropists, emphasizes high- impact strategies and innovative social investment tools. With that, it leads to the other trend of greater collaboration between philanthropists which is crucial for maximizing impact and addressing complex global challenges effectively. From this conversation, #LIF’s approach in philanthropy is reinforced as we continue to seek greater collaboration with like-minded philanthropists in what we do. Mr. Gao is also a core member of #ImpactSG, a Community of Changemakers. ImpactSG was conceived in 2022 in response to Forward SG, and was launched as a ground-up initiative in 2023 to involve and activate the expanding community of Family Offices and High Net Worth Individuals to contribute both financially and non-financially to Singapore and the surrounding region. ImpactSG is part of the Asia Centre for Changemakers, a non-profit that is launched by Temasek Trust and the Wealth Management Institute.

HKEX to Digitalise ETP Servicing Capabilities with Online Platform Hong Kong Exchanges and Clearing Limited (HKEX) is pleased to announce today (Tuesday) plans to digitise and automate the in-kind creation and redemption process for relevant exchange-traded products (ETP) in 2025 through the adoption of a web-based platform, subject to technical readiness and regulatory approval. This platform will be integrated into the ETP creation and redemption process, connecting key ETP participants with the use of Distributed Ledger Technology (DLT) and smart contracts, and will help increase overall ETP market efficiency, supporting the continued growth of secondary market activity for ETPs. H&P Financial Services Weekly - Hong Kong’s Hang Seng is the Number One Super market of the week, up > 30%, driven by lower rates and new liquidity. We look at intraday volatility in Q3, which was up on Q2, with that major August spike, which should have helped the leveraged trading platforms PLUS, IGG and CMCX. Rising markets will have added some c. 3% to UK wealth management assets last quarter. Brooks Macdonald estimates are still woefully out of date, in our opinion. Premier Miton reveals more of their MPS plans. Man Group presents an entry point, with AHL underperforming for a while. Tavistock flies on a major disposal which will nonetheless benefit acquirer Saltus. While everyone is affected by the macro-environment, there are some nuances for Asian family offices. Asian families are likely in their first or second generation, with a substantial portion of their wealth locked up in the operating business. There is a need to diversify against these holdings, whilst not having sufficient investable AUM to justify a family office set-up with a competent team. MPF Ratings released Q1 2024 MPF Asset Class Fund Flow Summary by highlighting that US equities received over $9bn of MPF’s net inflows in Q1 2024, by far the largest quarterly MPF net inflows into US equities ever recorded, and a concerning trend which Mr Chung attributes to a confluence of new fund launches, disappointing local equity results and MPF members trying to capitalize on the strong momentum of the US market. FSDC Welcomes CSRC Measures Enhancing Hong Kong's Financial Market Hong Kong, April 25, 2024 – The Financial Services Development Council (FSDC) welcomes the recent five measures announced by the China Securities Regulatory Commission (CSRC) on April 19, 2024. These measures, aimed at expanding the mutual access between the capital markets of the Mainland and Hong Kong, reinforce Hong Kong's position as a leading international financial centre. The FSDC is particularly encouraged that four out of the five CSRC measures closely align with the policy recommendations outlined in the FSDC's research papers, namely, "Accelerating Offshore RMB Market Development: Enriching Hong Kong's Offerings as an International Financial Centre," published in March 2024, and "Revitalization of Hong Kong's Real Estate Investment Trusts Market - Promoting Liquidity," published in May 2021. According to MPF Ratings' latest MPFR Index, the top 10 MPF fund categories showed remarkable performance in July, with returns of between 1.34 per cent and 4.15 per cent. The significant threefold difference in these returns underlines the diversity of performance across the MPF landscape. In particular, returns for US equity funds fell from 4.72% in May to 3.01% in June and further to 1.43% in July, but remained positive throughout the period.
