THE NEXT BIG THING: In my second panel discussion at "The Next Big Thing" conference of IDC / Foundry in Singapore about "Smart Business Strategies to Implementing GenAI,", I had the big pleasure to have an engaging discussion with Laurence Liew, the Director of AI Singapore. I love how Laurence started our conversation by asking me what The HEINEKEN Company as a beer brewer has to do with ChatGPT. That was a great opportunity  to share more  insights about HEINEKEN’s massive digital transformation journey in the last five years in which we have been able to create exponential impact in the context of digitizing our Route-to-Consumer and creating value with data & AI - driven by our dream of becoming the best connected brewer in the world. Talking about GenAI: HEINEKEN has been a trailblazer in the use of GenAI and the fact that we opened-up an internal version of ChatGPT for all employees in our internal save environment already in February 2023 demonstrates how fast we have been moving to learn and apply where we see opportunities. Another example I shared is that our internal digital innovation hub Tiger Tribe (A HEINEKEN Company) which is based in Vietnam has been an early adaptor of using the superpower of GenAI for coding. I saw that recently live in action during my last visit and it was just super impressive. Intelligent dashboards empowered by GenAI are the next opportunity which we are exploring as we speak, stay tuned… Laurence and I fully agreed on the need for embracing continuous learning and adaption to stay competitive. Building on that, I shared – using Metaverse and GenAI as examples - my five step approach to navigate and win in a tech-driven future: Demystify, experiment, prioritize, build capabilities, and scale. It was really a great pleasure and fun to have this panel Laurence since our big passion for AI and innovation connects us so strongly. #DiaryOfANonProfitFounder As we almost conclude the next 5-year vision exercise, we realize it doesn’t have to be perfect, just consistent. For almost 10 years, we had no anchor funders just well meaning individuals who stood by us. Just kept our heads down and worked. जब बिलकुल पैसा नहीं होता तो सोशल मीडिया algorithm समझ आजाता है! 😁Made mistakes. The only thing that matters is don’t repeat the same mistakes, keep making new ones. A large percentage of HMOs sell at their optimum only when their unicorn buyer comes along. Before the end of 2022, unicorns were everywhere. Sure, a few died off due to Covid but the HMO unicorn investors ran free in abundance nevertheless. Unicorns of all varieties; The Hong Kong Supreme The Great REIT The Southeast, Northern Chaser The Charity Fiddler Due to climate change, unicorns have been in decline since 2023 and they are fewer and far between. The great news is, thanks to a general stabilisation and the nous of some experienced shepherds, unicorns numbers are growing and they’re still very active in the UK HMO space. They’ve evolved a bit, their expectations may be different, there may be less of them but they are still present and active. The unicorns are easier to find if you know where to look and know which unicorn fits your particular HMO and when to call their name. A persuasive answer is the Saigon Zoo and Botanical Garden in Ho Chi Minh City, Vietnam. 𝗞𝗲𝘆 𝗧𝗮𝗸𝗲𝗮𝘄𝗮𝘆𝘀: Once a lively cultural center, it faced a youth exodus that was worsened by negative press and the financial hit from the COVID-19 pandemic. The tide quickly turned, thanks to younger visitors who started sharing their zoo experiences on social networks, and the place became an iconic destination for photography and digital storytelling. With its visual approach, the youth recalibrated the zoo’s overarching attraction of being earned, of being fully immersed, but also of wanting to express an identity online.  𝗜𝗻𝘀𝗶𝗴𝗵𝘁𝘀 𝗳𝗼𝗿 𝗭𝗼𝗼𝘀 𝗮𝗻𝗱 𝗔𝗾𝘂𝗮𝗿𝗶𝘂𝗺𝘀 :  𝗨𝘀𝗲 𝗦𝗼𝗰𝗶𝗮𝗹 𝗠𝗲𝗱𝗶𝗮 𝗮𝘀 𝗮 𝗖𝗮𝘁𝗮𝗹𝘆𝘀𝘁: Encourage the younger audience to be brand ambassadors. Are Singapore’s skills keeping pace with the future? 📊 The latest OECD - OCDE Survey of Adult Skills 2023 paints a sobering picture of Singapore’s adult workforce. https://lnkd.in/gKMwV5Zg 🔍 Key Findings: - 30% of adults score at Level 1 or below in literacy, lagging behind OECD averages. - Older workers are falling farther behind, scoring 61 points lower than younger counterparts in literacy. - 36% of workers admit to a mismatch between their skills and job requirements. The Real Question: Why is a nation at the forefront of global innovation still struggling with basic literacy and workforce alignment? 💬 My Take: We’ve been focusing on tech, AI, and future-forward industries, but foundational skills, the bedrock of productivity, are crumbling. Isn’t it time we rethink our approach? Rather than celebrating our numeracy gains, let’s address why tertiary-educated Singaporeans can’t compete with Finland’s high school graduates in literacy. #sohkbb Journal The life of an entrepreneur reminds us to expect the unexpected... Leaning to adapt to changing circumstances is an early lesson... We start with an idea and a plan, but market realities may require us to reflect, revise and, on occasion re-route... That can challenge our confidence, both personal and professional... There may be moments of doubt and even fear... My biggest fear is of heights. I'm not afraid I'll fall...it's the magnetic pull to jump and see what happens, and the greater the height the greater the pull... Hence the image below... Fear can be corrosive, and when it arises it's absolutely vital we have supports in place...and not every entrepreneur does... Prevention is always better than cure, so having those supports in place from the time we start thinking of becoming an entrepreneur eliminates so much potential stress...
