🌟 Breaking the Experience Barrier: Empowering Young Talent 🌟 In today’s job market, many young people face a frustrating paradox: they need experience to get a job, but they need a job to gain experience. We equip motivated learners with in-demand skills, opportunities and offer employers the high-skilled talent pool.
About us
Generation is a global non-profit youth employment organization founded by McKinsey & Company. It was born from a study that looked at 150 employment programs in 25 countries and surveyed 17,000+ employers, students, and education providers, identifying gaps in existing offerings and the most effective approaches to fill them. Generation encompasses a seven-step approach, with a 4-12-week boot camp-style training that integrates technical, behavioral, and mindset skills. By focusing on repeated practice of the most important activities for a role - what Generation calls “breakdown moments” - the program prepares graduates to perform well from day one on the job. In Hong Kong, Generation seeks to address the two-sided talent mismatch, supporting youth and SEN youth aged 18-29, and mid-career changers. We specifically seek to bridge talent mismatch and challenge the societal perception that grades and level of education as the major screening factor for hiring entry level employees. Generation Hong Kong aims to: • Coach Hong Kong’s next generation & mid-career changers to equip them with skills to shape their own future. There is no such thing as the wrong choice; we help them to switch careers without a high commitment in time and cost when they are still carving out their unique path. • Provide scenario-based training and repeated practice so that they can hit the ground running from day one. Generation work closely with employers from various sectors to develop curriculum that is relevant for both the geography and the industry. • Challenge the societal perception that grades and education level should be the major screening factors in hiring entry-level employees. We have collaborated with like-minded employers and are continuously on the lookout for more employers to join us in addressing this challenge to relax the academic criteria and identify innovative approaches to hire the talent they want and need. A huge thank you to Microsoft and LinkedIn for co-hosting the Microsoft #Copilot Career Jam in Hong Kong! This event showcased the incredible power of collaboration among industry leaders to support our local talent. #AI is revolutionising everything, from the way of working to the recruitment process. Staying ahead in the AI-driven world is crucial, and the younger generation can #futureproof their careers by using the technology to make job searches more efficient and personalised. Special thanks to Mike Yeh, Microsoft’s Vice President and Deputy General Counsel, Director of Corporate, External and Legal Affairs, Asia, and Mei Mei Ng 吳薇薇, LinkedIn’s General Manager for Hong Kong, for their incredible support in making this event possible! And to our learners and alumni for their active participation and enthusiasm in embracing new technologies. Last but not the least, out heartfelt thanks to Henry Lee, Winnie Yeung, Amy Lee, and John Bosco Ip for fostering this meaningful collaboration between Generation Hong Kong, Microsoft and LinkedIn, as well as the invaluable support and career advice provided by the volunteers. Together, we’re empowering the next generation to embrace the AI era, unlock their career possibilities and thrive in the evolving job market. Microsoft's Corporate External and Legal Affairs leaders from across Asia had a chance to gather this week in Hong Kong. We saved the best for last and closed out a week of meetings by joining LinkedIn and Generation (https://lnkd.in/gd4Zh9d5) in hosting a Microsoft Copilot Career Jam at LinkedIn's office. Many thanks to Mei Mei Ng, LinkedIn's General Manager for Hong Kong and Taiwan, as well as Brian Cheng, CEO of Generation HK, for making this event possible! Generation HK (https://lnkd.in/gqmXNQ3Q) is focused on enabling young people to achieve economic mobility and a better life by bridging the gap between education and employment. It offers a number of 8-week programs, including technical programs for digital marketing and data engineering where AI is embedded into the curriculum. The career jam was an opportunity for Generation HK students to use Copilot to draft and summarize their experiences, career path and journey in order to create and update their LinkedIn profiles. Those with extra time used Copilot to draft cover letters for job applications simply by telling Copilot to pull from the job description and their LinkedIn profile! I love the agility of the students, both their willingness to enroll in a technical program to be at the cutting edge of technology but also the ease in which they started to use Copilot. It's definitely the future and there's no better time than now to learn how to use AI, which has arguably created a more level playing field as everyone is at the beginning of the AI skilling journey. Henry Lee did a great job emceeing the event and Henry Yang provided an awesome intro to Copilot and prompting! Credit to Winnie Yeung, Amy Lee, and John Bosco Ip for leading Microsoft's partnership with Linkedin and Generation HK. I look forward to hearing about the new jobs that each of the students will land and seeing how they influence and define the AI era! #AISkilling #Copilot Vincent Shih, Darren Laffan, Yoko Oshima, Jasmine Begum, William Shuai, John Galligan, Barbara Tsai, Jyoti Pawar, Chan Yoon, Liang Tian, Chen Li, Joy Fuyuno, Cherie Lu
