5G standalone is a profitable innovation platform Examples of differentiated service through 5G standalone and midband TDD deployment are appearing in advanced markets. At the same time, communications service providers (CSPs) struggle to find a killer application that may sustain the required investment. But what if we look at 5G standalone as an enabler for operators’ platform economy? Service-based differentiation on top of 5G standalone is already happening, with examples spanning from priority passes to gaming, enterprise premium plans and industrial deployments. 🌌 Just wrapped up an exciting panel at ★ Les Assises du NewSpace - Saison 3 ★ NewSpace 2024, a premier event dedicated to French space innovation, which we at Eutelsat Group are proud to sponsor and organise. The panel, "Perspectives on 6G and the Promise of Non-Terrestrial Networks (NTN)," in which I was delighted to participate offered insightful discussions on the future of connectivity. 🚀 At Eutelsat Group, we are working towards the integration of 5G-NTN and 6G standards into future Eutelsat OneWeb satellites and we are supporting their inclusion into IRIS² satellites. This will enable a seamless integration of satellites into the telecom ecosystem, ensuring continuous, reliable and cost-efficient coverage for diverse applications such as connected cars, boats, planes, drones and possibly mobile telephony, no matter the location. 📢 Excellent news ! Science Based Targets initiative has validated Orange's carbon reduction targets. Orange is one of those companies who has very ambitious environmental commitments: to be Net Zero carbon by 2040.  This means that, by 2040, we will have reduced by 90% our Scope 1 (direct emissions), Scope 2 (emissions linked with our electricity consumption) and Scope 3 (indirect emissions linked with everything we buy from suppliers and the usage of our products by our customers, mainly) carbon emissions, and the residual 10% will be sequestered by carbon sinks. 2040 is 10 years before what the Paris agreements foresee to keep global warming below 1.5°. Science Based Targets initiative has validated our short term (2025), our mid-term (2030), and our net zero (2040) carbon reduction trajectories. This demonstrates the seriousness of our commmitments, and can comfort our customers in that, by engaging with Orange, we contribute to the reduction of their Scope 3. It's an amazing recognition for the Orange teams. But with recognition comes responsibility. Up to us now to execute on this trajectory, and make sure we succeed no matter the surprises the next 16 years will bring ! Space-Based Data Centers: A Vision for the Future. The ASCEND project, led by Thales Alenia Space and funded by the European Commission, explores the revolutionary potential of Data Centers in space. This innovative concept aims to tackle the environmental challenges of terrestrial data centers, such as high CO2 emissions and water usage, while leveraging space's unique advantages: abundant solar energy and natural cooling. The study highlights promising opportunities, including modular infrastructure assembly in orbit and advancements in eco-friendly rocket technology.
