The Power of Reputation and a Good Past : Jensen Huang 🌟 How did you convince the most sought-after investor in Silicon Valley to invest in a team of first-time founders building a new product for a market that doesn’t even exist?” 1️⃣ The Humble Beginnings “I didn’t know how to write a business plan. I went to a bookstore—yes, there were bookstores back then—and picked up a book called ‘How to Write a Business Plan’ by Gordon Bell. It was 450 pages long. I flipped through a few pages and thought, ‘By the time I finish this, I’ll be out of business.’ With just six months of savings for my family of five, I didn’t have the luxury of time.” 🔑 Takeaway: Sometimes, action trumps perfection. Start where you are and adapt quickly. 2️⃣ The Importance of Relationships “Instead of a polished business plan, I spoke to Wilf Corey. After my pitch, Wilf said, ‘I have no idea what you just said. That’s one of the worst elevator pitches I’ve ever heard.’ But then, he picked up the phone and called Don Valentine, saying, ‘I’m sending you a kid. Give him money. He’s one of the best employees LSI Logic ever had.’” 🔑 Takeaway: Your reputation will always precede you. Invest in building genuine relationships and a history of trust and hard work. 3️⃣ The Core Lesson: Have a Good Past “You can make up a great interview. You can even have a bad interview. But you can’t run away from your past, so have a good past. I was serious when I said I was a good dishwasher. At Denny’s, I planned my work, was organized, and worked efficiently. I was probably the best dishwasher and busboy Denny’s ever had. These small, seemingly insignificant jobs built my work ethic and reputation.” 🔑 Takeaway: Excellence in the small things creates the foundation for bigger opportunities.
