We are happy to share a MAJOR MILESTONE: Our national program with Sightsavers to screen truck drivers in India has officially screened 1 MILLION drivers! Good vision is crucial to road safety. Poor eyesight can lead to slower reaction times, missed signs and accidents – putting everyone on the road at risk. Providing 1 million truck drivers in India with proper vision care is a significant step toward enhancing road safety for all. We remain steadfast in our mission to raise awareness, provide corrective lenses to those in need and improve access for everyone — including the trucker community as proper vision care is a major step towards safer roads.

We are proud to join forces with the World Health Organization (WHO) as a global collaborating partner on the WHO SPECS 2030 initiative. Together, we’re taking bold steps towards achieving the world’s first-ever global target: increasing effective refractive error coverage by 40% by 2030. | Bringing Good Vision to Refugees in Amsterdam | In November, the Foundation hosted a vision clinic in Amsterdam, Netherlands, providing critical eye care to refugees and underserved individuals. With thousands of refugees currently residing in the Netherlands, the need for vision correction services has reached unprecedented levels. A dedicated team of volunteers offered eye exams and prescription eyeglasses, ensuring that our beneficiaries – including refugees, migrants and underserved community members – gained the ability to see the world more clearly. Good vision is more than a health necessity; it is a gateway to integration, education and employment – which is critical for refugees striving to rebuild their lives in new environments. This life-changing initiative was made possible through the collaborative efforts of EssilorLuxottica Netherlands, GrandVision Benelux, Pearle, Transitions Optical, Centram & Het Wereldhuis NGO, and the incredible support of colleagues from Ray-Ban Stores, Sunglass Hut, Oliver Peoples, Oakley and Essilor Instruments.

For people residing in remote villages like Nauorsi, Galoa and Nabukaluka in Fiji, access to quality vision care is a huge barrier in reaching their full potential. These communities are isolated, making access to basic healthcare limited. In response to that, our Foundation partnered with Youth With A Mission in Fiji to empower these remote villages with ‘The Right To See’. The team worked together to ensure that those in need received eye care and glasses, providing a chance for better vision and an improved quality of life. Read the article here to find out how we brought vision care to communities in need in Fiji, empowering individuals to reach their fullest potential: https://lnkd.in/gtdBqfzu #GoodVisionChangesEverything #TheRightToSee #SeeMoreBeMore

We recently sponsored two pieces of critical research to understand the state of vision health in Latin America’s indigenous and youth populations. The results revealed that among the Guna Indians of Panama, myopia rates reached 40.4% in adults, with significant levels of astigmatism and visual impairment – rates that were higher than global and indigenous averages. A second study in Soacha, Colombia, showed rising myopia rates of 21% among children, pointing to a critical need for early intervention and vision care services. These studies highlight the growing prevalence of myopia in the region, which mirrors the global issue. Research like this is crucial to closing the evidence gap in Latin America, where comprehensive data is limited. Additionally, these studies will empower advocacy for accessible eye health solutions across the region, which our Foundation is committed to supporting in these communities and beyond. In case you missed it: Bill C-284 has passed this month in Canada, kicking off the development of a National Eye Care Strategy in the country. This strategy aims to improve the lives of the five million people in Canada living with uncorrected poor vision, the 1.8 million Canadians dealing with moderate to severe vision loss and the 68,000 who are blind. The National Eye Care Strategy aligns with World Health Organization’s SPECS 2030 initiative which aims to ensure affordable and accessible vision care services for everyone globally. The success of Bill C-284 will be achieved by the development and ongoing commitment of strong partnerships across all sectors, as well as the adoption of measuring mechanisms to monitor progress towards achieving eye care for all. Our Foundation believes that everyone has ‘The Right To See’ – Bill C-284 gets us one step closer to eliminating poor vision in a generation. Thank you to Hon. Judy A. Sgro and Hon. Senator Mohamed Ravalia for their outstanding efforts, which were instrumental in passing this important legislation. #GoodVisionChangesEverything #TheRightToSee Simon Robert Becky Palm
