Or they cannot be rescued unless there are #rescue #boats to come and get them. Whatever your point of view is, in many places around the world, there is a SAR system in place that exists to respond, but it has #capabilities and #limitations, and SAR personnel would do well to understand these. Many critical infrastructures in Finland are located near the sea, which means that they need to monitor the water's surface for any potential threats. During the summer, boats may pose a risk, while in the winter, when the sea freezes, the sites become vulnerable to incursions by foot. To ensure security, long-range detection is required in all weather and light conditions. Additionally, the integration of VMS, cameras, and AIS is necessary. Answer - We don't even try to. 👉 Think elevators, restrooms, stairwells, corridors, confined public spaces, and/or, a multiple threat/crowd situation. 👉 For those that opine "...if you find yourself in this situation, then you've done something wrong..."...well, I can't help you with that, nor do I have the crayons to explain why you might find yourself in a situation like this, and, even if you have messed up, you still need to get yourself out of it. 👉 We've taught this to undercover law enforcement units, armed executive protection officers, government agencies and concealed carriers. 👉 It's an aggressive procedure, requiring a certain mindset, but it is a procedure that allows you to take back control of a situation, that you haven't instigated, and that will very quickly become untenable. 👉 3-4 seconds of maximum "proactive" violence prevents 1-2 minutes of "reactive" response, where the longer you take to deal with this, the less chance there is of surviving it. #DYK up to 10 or more sea lampreys may be present on a nest during spawning?! Sea lampreys usually spawn in the early spring (in tributaries to the lower Great Lakes) through mid-summer (in tributaries to the upper Great Lakes). When adults migrate into rivers, the males excrete pheromones to attract females to mate. The males and females build a nest together upstream in an area with gravel substrate. Sea lampreys use their suction-mouths to move rocks into a horseshoe shaped nest, with the open side facing upstream. During the next few hours or days, the sea lampreys will alternate bouts of rock moving, tail fanning (to clean the nest), and spawning. To initiate the act, a male suctions onto a female’s head then coils around the female and rubs his rope (i.e., the ridge of tissue that male sea lampreys develop on their back) on the abdomen of the female, encouraging her to release her eggs. As the eggs are expelled, the male fertilizes them and the eggs fall into the spaces among the rocks in the nest, where they are protected. One female can produce up to 100,000 eggs! After spawning, the adults will die, providing nutrients for their larvae as their bodies decompose.
