A few weeks ago, I started to improve my Frontend Web-developing skills on the Scrimba platform, and this was one of the first solo-excercises. The topic was to make hometown homepage website, and I chose to make small info page of Helsinki. The purpose of the exercise was to get used to HTML-language and CSS-styling. Nothing special but the purpose was to gain so called "muscle memory" for styling. I included some not needed features, e.g. favicon and hover effects, and also found a way to implement sticky backround image. There might be too much code in stylesheet and certainly there is a way to make css shorter so I have to keep practising. But great course, and excited to continue next module which is called Interactive Websites and comes with Java Script concepts. I've only completed 10% of the course so far, so I need to stay diligent in the coming days. Thanks for Scrimba and especially to Per Borgen for wonderful style of teaching. [29] Nekt brings teams and data together, unlocking AI intelligence. As we want to share more about our product, I decided to start recording some short videos about it. I hope you like it. The first thing we had to solve at Nekt? Helping companies easily gather all their data in one place. Data flows straight from sources to the Lakehouse, structured by Nekt and hosted in your cloud provider. In today’s video, I show how to connect a data source and send data to your Lakehouse. I’m picking a Google Sheets source because it’s been popular with our early-stage customers. Here’s how it works: - Go to Sources. - Hit Add Source and select Google Sheets. - Authenticate with Google. - Add your Google Sheets URL and tab name. - Select the columns you want to pull data from.  - Define the new table name.  - Add a description so your team knows what this data source is about. - Define the trigger: Manual, Event, or Schedule. Bluesky is a Twitter-alternative. It launched two years ago, and has already grown to an impressive 5.5 million registered users: with only ~10 developers building it. But how was it built? With Elin Nilsson we spent the last couple of weeks talking with Paul Frazee and Daniel Holmgren (two founding engineers at the startup) to get a sense of how this platform went from zero to where it is today. A few interesting notes: - The core of the protocol and app were built by 2-3 engineers over 9 months - Bluesky moved from AWS to on-prem for cost-saving and performance reasons - The team migrated from PostgreSQL to... Last week Studisco produced the Care About IT national Hackathon and Livestream event. 63 students from Turun ammatti-instituutti and Tredu Tampereen seudun ammattiopisto participated in the hackathon and solved challenges in health tech what they pitched in the Care About IT Finland Livestream. This production is something that we developed at Studisco in co-operation with our stakeholders and volunteers in 2020 when we needed to find a solution to participate youngsters in our game production and share awareness about mental health and substance problems. After doing the event for the last 4 years in Project Kantti we were asked to participate in the Care about IT project to facilitate the Hackathon event for the project. I'm thankful for the trust that our partners have given to us! 🩷🇪🇺🇫🇮 The main value in Studisco Events is always to have students partisipating in the production and give them opportunities and platforms to shine, test, and challenge their skills to grow towards worklife. Typical start of a cooperation with SnapStack.. It does not take a lot to start working with us either as a new client or a new colleague. We love meeting new people. All it takes is a shout at one of us via email or LinkedIn! 😉 When it comes to our engagement model, or the HOW part, these are some that we experienced:   ✌ The CRYSTAL CLEAR START is when the client has a very good idea of what needs to be built, supported by well documented project requirements and all it takes is to start. In a similar way we engage via SnapTalent for resourcing projects when the client needs to hire a certain profile, to lease a certain people capacity on an internal project internally, or a certain niche skills consultancy not available internally. ✌The SAFE START is when our client has a rough idea of what they want to achieve, but it is too costly to fail or not sure it will work the way it is envisioned. In this case we go with Proof of Concept approach, delivery of limited scope, only selected functionalities, to test their usability and decide whether to continue or not with the next phase. If we engage via SnapTalent it is usually to support such Proof of concept projects with uncertain outcome, on a daily or hourly or % of capacity basis. ✌ The AGILE START is where our client has an idea of what they want to achieve, they know they need such a solution, they are not sure of all the functionalities, they do not have collected and documented requirements, nor internal budget approval. All of those require a lot of preparation, analysis and time. We call it Agile start because we discover together with the client step by step. We start with one consultant, on minimum cost, to crystallize the scope, prepare a roadmap, architecture, plan etc. Then step by step, as we are more clear about the vision, we can focus on the mission with all our powers, and increase the velocity of the project. If via SnapTalent, same as with the Proof of concept projects, it is usually to support the slow increase in velocity and add up to the end goal, on a daily or hourly or % of capacity basis.

Sora is finally here! Sora is OpenAI ‘s newest text to video feature that we have been waiting for a year now. There are upsides for creativity, but the business model and regulation for the royalties for artists that the AI trained on are not set in stone. That is a concern, but for small businesses this is a great tool to deliver low cost video production. I couldn’t help to try it out. My plan was to post a video of me as Santa clause handing gifts out to my LinkedIn network. However, It does no let you upload a picture of yourself to be featured in a video. I overcam that by using the blend feature of a Santa video I generated and me talking in front of some Christmas trees earlier for an event in Charlotte North Carolina. Yesterday, I had the honor of moderating an event by Etteplan and Women in Tech Finland. Varpu Varpela from Miltton kicked off the event with a talk about the value of a brand and brand renewal. When exploring a brand, it's good to ask: 💡 What are the industry conventions? How are we challenging them? What would set us apart from competitors? 💡 What is important to our key stakeholders? What challenges are we solving for them? 💡 What do we need to understand about the world? What are the macro trends that affect our and our clients' business? Outi Torniainen has led the cultural change at Etteplan and told us about the journey: 👟 Pre-launch: communicate the new brand & values to managers 👟 Launch: communicate the change in all channels to employees 👟 Awareness: talk about new brand & values in teams and units 👟 Understanding: encourage engagement with the new brand & values 👟 Engaging & behaving according to brand & values: values are part of daily work! 👟 Applying & accelerating: supporting the leadership and culture to grow according to the new brand & values My role was to moderate the the event, especially the panel discussion between Varpu, Outi, and Maija Hakuli, department manager at Etteplan Vantaa. Maija is also one of the ~100 Brand & Value Ambassadors whose task is to organize value discussions across the company. In the panel we explored the following topics: 💭 The key factors driving Etteplan's decision to renew the brand and values. Why now? 💭 The brand and values were not designed in an ivory tower; employees were already engaged during the design process. 💭 The biggest challenges faced during the transformation process so far. 💭 Cultural changes don't happen overnight; results can take years to manifest. What change can already be seen in daily life? 💭 How does Etteplan continue to engage its employees to live the new brand and values? Thank you for the invitation to moderate the event! Participating in your cultural change journey (apart from this event, too) has been a rare opportunity to learn about organizational cultural change in practice. EasyPark (EasyPark Group) is a parking app that I use on a daily basis. It is a very convenient tool to pay for parking around Finland and in some other European countries. Need extra time for your parking? No problem — just adjust the timer in the app. Very easy and useful. Once, for some reason, the service couldn’t process a payment and suspended my account. Not a big deal, I just needed to check my payment options. Let’s take a look at this issue from a user perspective. As a user, I would like to know the following details: — What is the reason for the suspension? — What should I do to re-enable my account? — If the reason is a payment issue, how much do I need to pay? The current version of the app tells you: 1. Your account was suspended 2. Change your payment option There are at least two possible reasons for payment issues: 1. Not enough money in your bank account to make a payment 2. Technical problems with the payment service In the first case, the user should know how much they need to pay in order to choose the right payment option. In the second case, it would be more appropriate to ask the user to check their payment option, rather than change it. I would suggest a different structure for the message: 1. We tried to make a payment of 5 EUR (for example), but it was unsuccessful 2. Please check your payment options 3. Until then, your account will remain suspended In addition to showing users their outstanding debt, I would provide an option to try making the payment instantly (instead of waiting for automatic payments). This way, the user can resolve the payment issue quickly, and both the user and the business benefit: the user ensures that the service is re-enabled, and the business receives the payment. #UXit #EasyPark #UserExperience
