A distinct correlation exists between the timing of advance bookings and the duration of stay: the shorter the advance booking period, the shorter the stay, resulting in a greater disparity. This trend is attributable to travelers' propensity to book well in advance when anticipating longer stays. The primary objectives for this behavior include: 1️⃣ Ensuring availability of accommodations. 2️⃣ Strategic itinerary planning to maximize the travel experience. 3️⃣ Preventing unforeseen complicationsthat may disrupt travel plans. 4️⃣ Maintaining flexibilityin accommodation choices. 👉 Consequently, hotels provide substantial discounts for extended stays. These discounts are more pronounced for reservations made significantly ahead of time. 👉 The rationale for such pricing strategies is that hotels can forecast their occupancy more accurately, enabling them to offer more competitive rates. On the other hand, Online Travel Agencies (OTAs) typically extend limited-time offers and discounts for unsold rooms close to the date, which are generally applicable to shorter stays. #parity #WPR #13compareme #technology #pricing

Last year, Outpayce from Amadeus partnered with Opinium to highlight the continued resilience of travel demand and how consumers are incorporating fintech into their experience.   It was the second year in a row we had commissioned this research, surveying the spending habits of 4,500 travelers from five different markets across the globe.  The study revealed that travel remains the top discretionary spend category, ranked a high priority by 12% more respondents than the previous year, with an average expected spend of $3,422, a significant 28% rise from 2022.  I found it encouraging to read in the PYMNTS Consumer Credit Economy Monitor Report that consumers are still willing to spend big on travel, with more than one-third planning to spend more on trips than in 2023.   According to the publication's study, consumers plan to spend approximately $2,400 on average. Credit cards are their preferred payment method, largely due to the rewards and cash-back programs they offer.  Our own research found consumers were less likely to pay for travel using credit, suggesting cost of living pressures had eased for some travelers. In a new report by Amadeus, hoteliers expect to increase their investment in technology by an average of 16 percent over the coming 12 months, with one in five planning to invest over 20 percent more than they did last year. This comes as a response to leaders realizing the importance of offering guest personalization. Why might European buyers be more relaxed than their US counterparts when it comes to the pace of airline NDC rollout? Could it be a direct correlation to the strategy of one of the US carriers in particular, so it's closer to home? And if that's the case, is it really a disparity between European and US travel managers about NDC rollout or more-so the what/why & how of overall corporate travel strategy & engagement with stakeholders in the market v NDC strategy per se? I recently came across an insightful article from Phocuswright about how the European Commission is now viewing the Booking Group as a gatekeeper in the travel market. This is particularly relevant for car rental operators, as Booking.com stands as the largest sales channel for travel in Europe and has a significant presence in the US with Priceline. The comparison to tech giants like Meta and Google might not seem immediately relevant, but it highlights an important point: despite their larger size, these companies don't have the same level of influence in the travel sector as Booking.com. More travel is sold on the Booking platform than any other, making their role incredibly impactful. For car rental operators, it's crucial to understand this dynamic. The dominance of a single platform can lead to an "800-pound gorilla" scenario, similar to what we see in the US with Expedia. This kind of market dominance can stifle competition and innovation, ultimately affecting pricing and availability for customers. After analysing the 2017/2019 hotel industry, Luca and I uncovered the key factors that democratised reservation technology—a transformation that the experiences industry has yet to fully embrace. Back then, channel management was a luxury for accommodations. Phocuswright reported that hotels were spending between $2,000 & $5,000/month on channel management solutions. The turning point came when tech providers shifted to a monthly subscription model ranging from $100 to $500/month. This change led to cost reductions of up to 80% for hoteliers. As a result, adoption rates increased dramatically—from 30% to 65% within just two years. This business model shift not only brought cost predictability but also democratised access to essential technology for hotels of all sizes. I believe the experiences sector is at a similar crossroads today. That's why I'm piloting CaptainBook.io through a transformative new business model: eliminating booking fees—even for our channel management—and offering services through a monthly subscription. This approach allows operators to save thousands of dollars annually. Have you booked a trip to a luxury destination this year? If so, you’re not alone.     A new Amadeus analysis of bookings made through all agencies shows luxury destinations have replaced traditional short-haul European destinations from France, the UK and Germany with:     ·      Mauritius and the Maldives now in the top 20 outbound from the UK for the first time.   ·      Frankfurt, Madrid, Dublin and Amsterdam have dropped out of the top 20.  ·      Four of the top five outbound routes from France are now luxury holiday destinations.   ·      Lisbon and London are now the only European destinations in the top 20.     These findings suggest a remarkable change in the nature of air travel demand that may have implications for every travel company.    In a world where airline margins are increasingly tied to premium leisure travelers, the question is: how can we create a travel experience that meets the needs of these discerning customers?
