Uncover the Secrets to Mastering Word Formation for the Cambridge English Proficiency C2 Test
Welcome to a deep dive into Cambridge English proficiency exam practice, specifically focusing on the reading and use of English, part three - word formation. Uncover the Secrets to Mastering Word Formation for the Cambridge English Proficiency C2 TestThis test involves a text with eight gaps, where each gap corresponds to a word, and you'll be provided with the stems of the missing words. Your task is to change these stems to form the required word. Mastery in vocabulary is key here, particularly the use of affixation, internal changes, and compounding in word formation.
➡️ Many of my students have found this section challenging, but I'm here to help! Before jumping in, remember to skim through the entire text, and don't rush your answers. The context is crucial. Ensure you consider the words surrounding the gaps, as this will give you hints about the required parts of speech. I've divided the text across three slides due to video format restrictions, so you'll have about 45 seconds to read each. If you need more time, simply pause and rewind.

English... why do we spell words one way and say them a completely different way?... 👇
As hard as it may seem, sometimes it is better to simply accept the way it is and ask questions, like:
✅ How do natives pronounce it?
✅ How can I remember the correct pronunciation?
✅ What can I do to practice this pronunciation?
Learning the sounds of English and not just relying on the spelling is an important step in your journey to becoming a fluent speaker.
*Note: The pronunciation of 'Thorough' in American English is more like "thur-ow", whereas in British it is a definite "A" sound at the end, "thu-ra".
