We are pleased to share the Monitoring Group (MG) has announced that Mr. Han Yi will be joining the PIOB in January 2025 and existing members Mr. Dave Sullivan and Ms. Tshegofatso Modise have been re-appointed for additional three-year terms commencing on 1 January 2025, following a robust nominations process.  We look forward to collaborating in the year ahead. We would also like to express our appreciation to Begoña Giner Inchausti for her invaluable contributions as she concludes her term this month.

The PIOB is pleased to announce the first rotations on the PIOB Standard-Setting Board Nominations Committee since its establishment in 2021.   From January 2025, Richard Thorpe will Chair the Committee, and the following members will also be renewed: Guy Almeida Andrade, Yamada Tatsumi, Onome Adewuyi (B.Sc, M.Sc, FCIB, ACPIN, FCA), Naweed Lalani and Kris Peach AM.   We are very appreciative of the contributions since 2021 of Liz Murrall as Chair, and Mara Cameran and Wallace Gregory as members, who now rotate off the Committee.   SSB NomCo has played a key part in enabling the PIOB to transition the International Auditing and Assurance Standards Board (IAASB) and the International Ethics Standards Board for Accountants (IESBA) to a multi-stakeholder composition. We deeply mourn the tragic and untimely loss of Imran Vanker and his daughter. Imran was not only a respected and valued member of our community but also a person who dedicated himself wholeheartedly to advancing the public interest. His significant contributions, unwavering commitment, and passion for making a meaningful difference have left an indelible mark on our work and on everyone who had the privilege of knowing him. Our thoughts and heartfelt sympathies are with his family, friends, and colleagues during this incredibly difficult time.

The PIOB has approved key appointments and re-appointments to the International Ethics Standards Board for Accountants (IESBA) and the International Auditing and Assurance Standards Board (IAASB) effective 1 January, 2025. For IESBA, Gabriela Figueiredo Dias is re-appointed as Chair for a two-year term, with eligibility for further re-appointment and Channa Wijesinghe FCPA, FCA is appointed as Vice-Chair for a two-year term, following his re-appointment to the Board. Nancy Miller and Obichukwu Nwazota are appointed as new IESBA members. Mark Babington and Christelle MARTIN are re-appointed for three-year terms, and Rich Huesken for a final year of service. PIOB Outreach - October 2024    PIOB Secretary General, Martin Brenno Manuzi welcomed to the PIOB Melanie Sack and Gillian Waldbauer from the Institut der Wirtschaftsprüfer in Deutschland e.V. [Institute of Public Auditors in Germany] for a discussion on ISA and the International Ethics Standards Board for Accountants (IESBA) Code development, application and adoption, with a particular focus on scalability and the importance of SME/P perspectives.    On October 29-30 he attended the Public Company Accounting Oversight Board (PCAOB) International Institute meeting in Washington DC which focused on audit regulation, standards and key market developments, with input from regulators from around the world.   In addition, the PIOB Secretariat hosted Hisashi Sato, CEO of the 調査課Jicpa東京会 on October 31 to discuss the SSBs’ Sustainability projects and Firm Culture and Governance amongst other key projects, and hear about the JICPA´s strategic approach under Mr Sato’s leadership.  #Assurance #Sustainability

We are pleased to inform you that the updated Public Interest Issues lists for the ongoing projects of the International Auditing and Assurance Standards Board (IAASB) and the International Ethics Standards Board for Accountants (IESBA) have been published. These new versions have been revised following the SSBs' September meetings and the PIOB's October Board meeting. They cover key SSB projects such as Sustainability (assurance and ethical requirements), Use of experts, Firm culture and governance, Fraud, Going concern, Audit evidence, and Risk control. These lists are part of the PIOB's Q3 oversight publications, which include the Briefing Memos and the Observation Memos. These key documents are part of the PIOB oversight cycle and provide insight into how the PIOB carries out its oversight role and identifies public interest issues.
