2024 has been an exciting year with a number of achievements, including: - 97 points and Platinum medal (Vinya Pendents Carinyena 2018) at the Decanter awards, and 95 points and Gold Medal for the Vi Ranci - various Gold Medals in the Grenaches du Monde Competition - participating in the Master Class about Garnacha and ambassadors for Priorat Garnacha at the Hospices du Rhone in the Washington State Edition - featuring in a Viajes National Geographic article We had many opportunities to meet and engage with wine lovers and share our passion for Perinet wines and our fantastic Priorat region. After an intense harvest this year our winemaker, Antoni Sánchez-Ortiz, PhD, now turns his hand to a very enjoyable part of the winemaking process: the transformation of our wines. This is a slow, thoughtful stage requiring decision-making in terms of fermentation and aging in each of our oak barrels. This is the only way to ensure that each these can develop their individual maximum expression of the character of our terroir. Our winemaker Antoni Sánchez-Ortiz, PhD recently participated in a semi-blind tasting organised by wine-and.com, an invaluable wine app. A very impressive selection of wines from diverse regions around the world were tasted, including Saperavi from Purcari Wineries Group in Moldova and TBILVINO in Georgia, a Nebbiolo from @Marchese D´Azeglio in Italy, our very own Pendents Carignan, Almaviva from Chile, a blend of Cabernet Sauvignon and Malbec from Cheval des Andes in Argentina, a Cabernet Sauvignon from Chateaux d´Issan in France, and the Cabernet franc from Arba in Kazakhstan. This diverse lineup showcased the incredible qualities and characteristics each region brings to its wines. We recently finished pressing the Carinyena/Cariñena/Carignan grapes, the last produce of our harvest for this year. This late stage harvest is due to the intrinsic make up of the grape - it is a late budding and ripening grape, accumulating sugars slowly - and while location and exposure to the sun is another factor, it is still be one of last to be harvested. Cariñena adds colour, acidity and tannins to our wines (when used in a blend) and can also offer some notes of sweet spice as well. On Saturday 14th September, as in previous years, Perinet took part in the "XXIV Festa del Vi i la Verema a l´Antiga" - the 24th Traditional Wine and Harvest Festival in our neighbouring village of Poboleda. This extremely authentic event has been growing in recognition and attendance and allowed so many avid wine lovers to taste some of our wines. The day started with the picking of grapes, stomping of these, a hearty breakfast for the participants and then the tastings of recent harvests from 30 local wineries. In the wonderful world of wine, there are grape varieties that can tantalise your senses with a symphony of different flavours, blending both sweetness as well as spiciness. Garnacha is one of these, and today we celebrate International Garnacha Day. Garnacha originated from Spain and is also known as Garnatxa in Catalan and Grenache in French. The magic of our Harvest Celebration day is fast approaching: Saturday 28th September. Firstly you will participate in picking the grapes from the vine and sorting for inspection, or "triage". As a traditional wine maker we do this by hand, followed by the crushing of the grapes or foot stomping. After this unique experience we will offer guests a traditional lunch on our winery's terrace, where local delights will be paired with our award wining wines.
