As 2024 ends, we’re taking a moment to reflect on an amazing year of growth, collaboration, and innovation. Alberto San Miguel Tello presented BatteReverse at ROBOT24, the Iberian Robotics Conference, last week. Now in its 7th edition, the event brought together top robotics researchers from Spain and Portugal to present innovative projects, share knowledge, and foster collaboration. Eurecat - Technology Centre highlighted their contributions to our main objectives, emphasising the need for automated dismantling and sorting for a more sustainable battery value chain in the EU. 🌟 Exciting news! 🌟 DENIOS, a key partner of BatteReverse, wins first place in the Fire Protection category at the GIT SECURITY international Awards 2025! 🏆 Designed specifically for our project, the winning box is made for the safe transport of lithium-ion batteries and features advanced thermal insulation, gas management, and real-time IoT monitoring. The solution puts the safety of those handling damaged batteries first, reducing the risk of fire and exposure to hazardous materials. Over the coming months, we’ll be using this transport box in real-life scenarios to validate its safety features and benefits. This is an important milestone for BatteReverse and our ambitions to improve the safety and efficiency of Li-ion battery reverse logistics in the EU. With industry experts and our community, we explored the battery passport and its role in advancing sustainability across the European battery value chain. With the 2027 compliance deadline approaching, here are some key takeaways: 🟢 Data management: Standardised data sharing, with blockchain functionalities for data security and traceability, is needed for successfully implementing the digital battery passport. 🟢 Business models: The battery passport will drive efficient recycling, reduce costs for battery testing, and simplify cross-border logistics by distinguishing waste from non-waste materials 🟢 Supply chain challenges: Mapping and engaging the supply chain is difficult, specifically for downstream companies.
