We're enhancing public transport efficiency with digital twin technology! Researchers at i2CAT, in collaboration with Acisa and Aimsun, have developed a digital twin to enhance urban public transport efficiency. The project, part of the 6GTWINROAD research initiative, aims to optimise traffic flow and reduce pollution through intelligent traffic light control systems and real-time data from road sensors. Demonstrations in the city of Terrassa, in the province of Barcelona, have shown the system's effectiveness in prioritising buses and adapting to traffic incidents. "Aimsun has provided a simulator and AI-based models for the digital twin that allow it to evaluate different scenarios, feeding it with real-time data and providing metrics (KPIs) that show the benefits obtained from the new priority system and in cases of congestion," explains Jordi Casas, Global Head of R&D at Aimsun.

🚴♀️🚶♂ Benoit Vedel Georges S. 🏆 AWARD FINALISTS!! 🏆 Aimsun and Main Roads Western Australia are excited to be named finalists for the ITS Australia Awards, in the category for Excellence in Research and Development! This recognition highlights our collaborative efforts in developing the Smart Freeway Live Decision-Support Tool. This tool complements the physical infrastructure with simulation-driven decision support for traffic management centre operators to improve safety and resilience. Ready for launch in a few weeks, the real-time decision-support tool will serve the southbound Mitchell Smart Freeway. Traffic operators will gain real-time, simulation-driven insights into network conditions, significantly improving incident response capabilities. The winner of the award category, sponsored by iMOVE Australia, will be announced in February 2025. Our fingers and toes are tightly crossed! 🤞 Wish us luck!

Want to use a dynamic transport model to appraise a transport scheme, but you're worried about lack of stability and convergence? Watch this webinar! Gavin Bailey and Tessa Hayman of Aimsun introduce the method that they developed in close association with the Department for Transport (DfT), United Kingdom, who oversee Transport Appraisal Guidance. The aim is to solve the problem of dynamic models' non-conformance with the DfT's Transport Appraisal Guidance (TAG) regarding convergence, stability, and robustness, which previously restricted the application of dynamic assignment to operational modelling, development planning and event planning. Our thanks to the webinar hosts, Local Council Roads Innovation Group (LCRIG) and to Nila Sari for her guidance and support.
