🏆 At the end of October Estanc secured the 1st project to be manufactured according to #ASME Section VIII Division 2 requirements. Although we cannot share any specifics around the project, it is still worth while to highlight some of the main key differences between ASME Section VIII Division 1 and Division 2 pressure vessel codes. 👉 Design Philosophy: Division 1 uses a simpler design-by-rule approach; Division 2 uses design-by-analysis for more precision and thinner walls. 👉 Safety Factors: Division 1 has a higher safety factor, while Division 2’s is lower, balancing safety with material savings. 👉 Material Specifications: Division 1 is less restrictive, while Division 2 demands stricter material quality for higher performance. 👉 Fatigue Analysis: Division 1 doesn’t require fatigue analysis for most cases; Division 2 requires it for cyclic loading applications. 👉 Cost and Complexity: Division 1 is simpler and cheaper upfront. Division 2, though more complex, can reduce long-term material costs. 🚚 To wrap or not to wrap – that is the question 📦 Every now and then a question pops up when planning the transportation of oversize process equipment: Should we use shrinkable plastic wrap for protection? 🔍 Pros: Weather Resistance: Heat shrink wrap provides a tight seal that keeps moisture, dust, and debris at bay during transit. Durability: It’s strong and resilient, offering excellent protection against abrasion and impacts. Cost-Effective: A budget-friendly option compared to other protective methods. 🔍 Cons: Environmental Concerns: Plastic wrap contributes to waste and is not the most eco-friendly choice. Application Challenges: Proper application requires skill and time, which can lead to delays if not done correctly. Financial Aspect: Although not too expensive, the cost of material, application as well as its utilization can be avoided, when correctly communicated between supplier and customer.
