The dream to recruit 10,000 women to use a digital app that will hopefully provide clues to help diagnose #Endometriosis is flawed, unless you confirm the diagnosis to validate the data. Contrary to the Lucy app website assumptions, many new ways exist to diagnose endometriosis that are non-invasive. Surgery is no longer the gold standard, given gains in transvaginal ultrasound and even more notably the 45 minute completely noninvasive 98 to 99% accurate #Endosure test and others. Perhaps the dream should be for the app developers to work hand-in-hand with developers of non-invasive testing to provide easy to obtain confirmation of the disease. Only then will validation take place. Furthermore, Women live shamefully with this disease because of still existent stigmata needlessly perpetuated due to poor education in the medical field, government and general community. Without the ability to perform inexpensive, non-invasive, rapid testing, there will be no diagnosis, and only continued shame and discrimination. Regardless we face a variable disease where only 15% present as easy to diagnose DIE or ovarian types and the remaining 85% are undiagnosed with peritoneal disease, emphasizing the need for non invasive accurate testing.

TrueHear ensures that patients get TRUE HEARING BENEFIT from their hearing aid and enables them to continue a normal life. ✨ Hearing loss is the most common disability among people over 70. However, only 30-40 percent of hearing aid users feel that they benefit from their devices; this could be due to selecting the wrong type of hearing aid, improper adjustments, or further deterioration of hearing. The benefits and adjustments of the hearing aid should be verified in a realistic noisy sound environment both at the time of receiving the device and regularly afterward. With current healthcare resources and methods, this is not possible. With TrueHear, the patient can independently measure their hearing ability with the hearing aid in a realistic sound environment. As AI continues to reshape industries, one critical area that demands our focus is trust in AI-driven systems. Over the past several years, I’ve had the privilege of working at the intersection of radiology, AI, and human-technology interaction. My work has centered around fostering trust and adoption in decision-supporting AI tools, where accuracy, reliability, and human oversight are crucial.   I’m excited to present at WHINN 2024, where I’ll be discussing this very topic: How we build trust in AI systems by ensuring that stakeholders are involved in the process from the start. Earnings management in local government healthcare reporting: Financial distress vs. peer influence? Jaana Kettunen, Pasi Leppänen, Hannu Ojala, Jani Saastamoinen https://lnkd.in/dYfBzQFN Abstract This paper examines if financial distress and/or peer influence predict local governments’ earnings management in the context of municipal healthcare expense reporting in Finland. Our statistical analyses use data hand-collected from all Finnish municipalities between 2016 and 2021. We document peer influence on earnings management by understating healthcare expenses in the public sector: Our results show that a municipality’s decision to manage earnings upwards is positively associated with the healthcare district’s central municipality's choice to understate its expenses. However, we do not find support for financial distress predicting earnings management. In our setting, peer influence appears to be a stronger motivation for financial reporting choice than municipality-specific characteristics.

The treatment goes well, but they need home care after the discharge. Now, it would be nice if the municipal home carers knew what treatments, examinations, and agreements have been done or made at the hospital, right? In reality, the transition from hospital to home care is often troublesome. To bridge the gap between hospitals and municipalities, Herning Municipality and Region Midtjylland (Central Jutland) have tested our Columna Axon. The solution lets regions and municipalities see each other’s patient info in real time, so that patient care is always based on comprehensive, up-to-date data. And the results were amazing! “The time a municipal nurse spends finding answers using Axon is nothing compared to the time she would spend on the phone. 𝗞𝗲𝘆 𝗛𝗶𝗴𝗵𝗹𝗶𝗴𝗵𝘁𝘀 𝗣𝗮𝗻𝗲𝗹 𝗗𝗶𝘀𝗰𝘂𝘀𝘀𝗶𝗼𝗻: Aki Nummela provided an insightful explanation of our functionality, emphasising the benefits of our technology in nursing home night shifts and home care, particularly in preventing falls. Minna Nissinen’s powerful statement, “Nurses should not do the work of robots,” resonated with many, highlighting the ongoing debate about integrating technology into nurses’ work. 𝗣𝘂𝗿𝗽𝗼𝘀𝗲 𝗼𝗳 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝗣𝗮𝗻𝗲𝗹: We believe that the technology is now available to significantly enhance elderly care. Our goal was to raise awareness and accelerate the adoption of these technologies to improve care quality and efficiency. 𝗙𝗶𝗻𝗱𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝗢𝗽𝘁𝗶𝗺𝗮𝗹 𝗕𝗮𝗹𝗮𝗻𝗰𝗲: Our focus is on finding the optimal balance that benefits everyone involved. By leveraging cutting-edge technology, we aim to support nurses and their patients, enhance the offerings of care homes, and provide commercial benefits—all for the greater good of humanity. 𝗣𝗶𝗹𝗼𝘁 𝗣𝗿𝗼𝗷𝗲𝗰𝘁𝘀: Our ongoing pilots are focused on validating the user interface and functionality of our technology. Swedish Medtech Summit: Digitalization @Home 🏡 Last week, I had the privilege of attending the Swedish Medtech Summit in Stockholm, and I’m deeply inspired by the insights shared. My heartfelt thanks to the organizers and speakers for creating a platform for such impactful discussions. 💙 One statistic stood out: By 2030 Sweden’s 80+ age group will grow by 49%, while the working-age population will increase by only 4%. This stark reality raises a crucial question: Who will take care of us as we age? Sweden’s healthcare system is adapting, focusing on providing care closer to home—whether through primary care centers (VC) or local hospitals (Närsjukhus). Yet, the scale of the challenge demands bold action. The solution lies in working smarter and embracing technology to shift care from hospitals to homes. This isn’t about the future; it’s about the innovations available today—from devices ensuring better sleep and breathing through CPAP machines for those with sleep apnea, to portable oxygen concentrators that help patients with respiratory challenges maintain independence. The same goes for portable ultrasound, x-ray machines, and wearable tech that monitors your vitals in real time while healthcare providers keep you safely connected. Sleep and Respiratory Care, in particular, exemplifies how technology can profoundly improve lives. Devices that enable better sleep, healthier breathing, and greater comfort at home are already making a difference for patients worldwide. By reducing reliance on hospital stays and empowering individuals with solutions for proactive care, we can enhance both outcomes and quality of life. But here’s the catch: Technology alone isn’t enough. Success depends on change management—helping patients, their relatives and caregivers embrace these tools. It’s not just about devices; it will always be about the people. The patient stories shared during the summit were a powerful reminder of what’s at stake. Hearing how home-based care allows individuals to stay with loved ones in a familiar environment while receiving high-quality care was both humbling and inspiring. 🙏🏼 As I reflect, I wonder how I’ll experience healthcare in 40+ years from now? One thing is certain: I’ll expect to be more informed, more involved, and more proactive, than my parents have been. I will be connected and will have access to AI. That expectation creates a challenge for us all—to reimagine healthcare for a growing, connected population. The summit reinforced one truth: the future of healthcare is proactive, innovative, and patient-centered. Now, it’s up to us to deliver on this promise.
