This development represents a major step in BMW's commitment to transitioning the MINI brand to full electrification by 2030. The plant's ability to manufacture four models with three different drive types—electric, hybrid, and combustion—on a single production line highlights the flexibility and technological advancement at Leipzig. Extensive upgrades, including additions to the body shop, paint shop, and assembly, have enabled the plant to increase its production capacity to 350,000 units per year. Key Technical Highlights: - Production Capacity Increase : Upgraded to support the production of up to 350,000 units annually, with potential for further increases to meet demand. - High Voltage Battery Production : Comprehensive in-house production process now fully operational, including cell coding, module production, and battery assembly. - Sustainable Manufacturing : Introduction of an overspray-free painting method and hydrogen-capable burner technology, reducing CO2 emissions and energy consumption. With swarm data, we can change that! ☝🤓 Here’s how: today's navigation systems use "Points of Interest" (POIs) to guide you to a destinations. 💬 “At CARIAD, the POI Management brings together various data sources for Points of Interest, combines them with the navigation applications, and continuously updates and improves the database,” explains Volker Remuß, Product Manager, POI Management. 💡 One dedicated team focuses on "Charging Points of Interest" (cPOIs). Their accuracy can be improved with the Charging Feedback solution. This solution uses swarm data to refine the accuracy of charging stations and ensures that the POI database is always up to date. Here’s how it works: 1️⃣ When you start a charging session at a public cPOI, your vehicle shares the location to the POI Management database. 2️⃣ The Charging Feedback solution then validates the location or identifies potential improvements for the cPOI. 3️⃣ The enhanced data is merged with the existing database and updated in the system. Around 78,000 charging points locations have already been enhanced, improving the charging experience for Volkswagen, AUDI AG, Škoda Auto, CUPRA, SEAT S.A., and Porsche AG drivers! This also benefits users of our brand-specific smartphone apps, such as My Porsche and MyAudi.“

"Planungssicherheit" - a very German word indeed. But regarding the electrification of trucks a very good one. The parties involved need to know what is to come (from the authorities side) to dare to invest. According to the OEM´s the European market share of zero emission trucks in 2030 will be 70%. Last week the 28th Automobil-Elektronik Kongress brought many exciting thoughts around SDV Challenge and potential innovations. Here below my personal highlights and thoughts: - Top OEMs like #BMW, #Renault and #Stellantis shared common concerns: HW complexity is exponentially growing, security measures are increasing with it as well - Only a fraction of today’s SW platform is standardized, making integration effort a very hard challenge. - Open-Source SW is not for free and majority of the integration and qualification effort is repeated. - There is a clear need to generate a Safe SW platform driven by clear Stack Maintainers. - Francis Chow gave a great speech about how Open Source can help to face the aforementioned challenges and talked about Red Hat effort towards Safety. - SW will define the HW: OEMs need to define early in advance what to isolate and where to place it in the E/E architecture (safety and power constraints) #Semiconductors vendors highlights: - As NXP Semiconductors we shared our view on how the SDV efforts should be spent on brand differentiation, building strong partnership and enriching the ecosystem to accelerate development time. Great presentation Ray! - Qualcomm brought the challenge of fusing Infotainment and ADAS domain, highlighting the importance to implement the “freedom from interference” principle into their design. - Infineon presented the crucial role of power semiconductors in SDV, showing how the new E/E are only possible with safe & secure computing and high speed networsk. - Another key aspect for SDV is networking capability, indeed Rosenberg highlighted new options beyond copper wiring, presenting the advantages to build vehicle networking backbone based on glass optical-fiber. Last but not least, it was very interesting to see both #AppliedEV, T-System and #AuroraLabs demos based on both NXP Semiconductors S32G and i.MX devices! It was a pleasure for me to learn from key expert and understand how much work there is still ahead of us to concretely shape the future of #SDV !

We were proud that our colleague Christoph Glasmacher gave a presentation on ‘Using Scenarios for Data-Driven Assessment of Automated Driving Systems’ at the Aachen Colloquium! The presentation shows how multiple European projects deals with aspects of the question on how to come from data to an assessment of a driving function. He gave an overview over recent projects such as iEXODDUS, SYNERGIES and V4SAFETY project presenting challenges and solutions to parts of this question. iEXODDUS deals with the recording of driving data, SYNERGIES with scenario databases and V4SAFETY with a framework for prospective safety assessment based on scenarios. "The concept of Safety of the Intended Functionality (SOTIF) is crucial in the realm of environmental perception, particularly in autonomous driving systems. The genesis of SOTIF can be traced back to a significant accident in 2016 involving a Tesla Model S on a U.S. highway. The vehicle, traveling at 119 km/h, collided with a trailer of a crossing truck. Tesla reported that the radar sensor mistook the trailer for a bridge (which it considered underivable), and the camera failed to detect the white trailer against a bright sky backdrop. The future is innovative and digital, maybe the role model for Germany.   Colossus is ready, making it the unofficially fastest current supercomputer designed to train only AI models.   100,000 H100 accelerators from Nvidia help to achieve FP64 computing power of 3.4 exaflops, i.e. 3.4 trillion computing operations per second. (FP64 values - floating point operations with double precision). By comparison, Frontier, the current leader of the Top500, achieves a peak FP64 performance of 1.7 exaflops.   However, the energy requirement is also extreme, an H100 requires 700W, the 100,000 H1s would then come to 70MW plus processors, switches and cooling.
