Baidu CEO warns AI is just an inevitable bubble — 99% of AI companies are at risk of failing when the bubble bursts The tech mogul claims it will take 10 to 30 years before AI displaces human jobs. Interestingly, Baidu CEO Robin Li, speaking at the Harvard Business Review's Future of Business conference, predicts that AI is just another bubble, like the dot-com bubble. Ultimately, only 1% of companies will remain afloat in this cutthroat industry. For reference, Nvidia's market cap rose tenfold over just two years, going from a modest $300 Billion to an eyewatering $3.4 Trillion. Tech giants such as Google, Microsoft, and Apple are pouring billions upon billions of dollars into AI - even chipmakers such as AMD and Intel have dissected their server-grade offerings into chips reserved for low-precision computing like FP8, FP6, and FP4; the very resource that AI relies on. It is clear that AI is all the hype these days, and you don't need us to tell you that. Robin Li says increased accuracy is one of the largest improvements we've seen in Artificial Intelligence. "I think over the past 18 months, that problem has pretty much been solved—meaning when you talk to a chatbot, a frontier model-based chatbot, you can basically trust the answer," the CEO added. A train can only carry so many people; likewise, Robin says that AI is just an "inevitable bubble, " similar to the dot-com bubble in the late 90s and the mobile internet market. Li goes as far as to say that this period of uncertainty is healthy and will cleanse the AI market from all the "fake innovations or products" that are unfit for consumer demand; “probably 1% of the companies will stand out and become huge and will create a lot of value, or will create tremendous value for the people, for society. And I think we are just going through this kind of process.” The CEO reassures that it will take at least 10 to 30 years before Artificial Intelligence replaces human jobs. Over 25% of Google’s code is now written by AI—and CEO Sundar Pichai says it’s just the start Some have accused the tech giants of blowing AI smoke on earnings calls—touting the supposed benefits of massive capital expenditures without reporting any tangible impact on productivity or savings. Google parent Alphabet, however, says it is making big progress on both fronts. More than a quarter of all new code at the search giant is now generated by AI, CEO Sundar Pichai said during the company’s third-quarter earnings call on Tuesday. That’s only a small part of how Alphabet executives say the company’s long-running AI efforts are beginning to benefit its balance sheet. The company says its impressive Q3 performance—earnings beat analyst predictions—was driven in part by its cloud business. The segment generated quarterly revenues of $11.4 billion, up 35% from the same period last year, as Pinchai said artificial intelligence offerings helped attract new enterprise customers and win larger deals. Microsoft Rolled Out AI PCs That Can't Play Top Games: The latest Windows personal computers with AI features have "the best specs" on "all the benchmarks," Microsoft Chief Executive Satya Nadella recently said. There is one problem: The chips inside current models are incompatible with many leading videogames. From a report: Microsoft and its partners this spring rolled out Copilot+ PCs that include functions such as creating AI-generated pictures and video. Under the hood of the new laptops is a hardware change. Instead of the Intel chips that have powered Microsoft Windows PCs for nearly four decades, the initial Copilot+ PCs to hit the market use Qualcomm chips, which in turn rely on designs from U.K.-based Arm. Most PC games, including popular multiplayer games such as "League of Legends" and "Fortnite," are made to work with Intel's x86, a chip architecture that has been the standard for many personal computers for decades. To make some of these programs function on the Qualcomm-Arm system, they must be run through a layer of software that translates Intel-speak into Arm-speak. Chip experts say the approach isn't perfect and can result in bugs, glitches or games simply not working. The problem is widespread. About 1,300 PC games have been independently tested to see if they work on Microsoft's new Arm-powered PCs and only about half ran smoothly, said James McWhirter, an analyst with research firm Omdia.
