𝗗𝗲𝗮𝗹𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝘄𝗶𝘁𝗵 𝗰𝗵𝗮𝗻𝗴𝗲 𝗶𝗻 𝗚𝗲𝗿𝗺𝗮𝗻𝘆 🇩🇪 This week I had the pleasure of delivering a training session on change management in Germany. Navigating change can be challenging anywhere, but in Germany, certain cultural specifics play a key role in how employees and organisations respond to change. 𝑯𝒆𝒓𝒆 𝒂𝒓𝒆 𝒔𝒐𝒎𝒆 𝒉𝒂𝒄𝒌𝒔 𝒇𝒐𝒓 𝒎𝒂𝒏𝒂𝒈𝒊𝒏𝒈 𝒄𝒉𝒂𝒏𝒈𝒆 𝒆𝒇𝒇𝒆𝒄𝒕𝒊𝒗𝒆𝒍𝒚 𝒊𝒏 𝑮𝒆𝒓𝒎𝒂𝒏𝒚: 1️⃣ Emphasise structure and planning: Germans appreciate well-organised, structured approaches. Make sure your change management plan is clear, with step-by-step details, timelines and goals. Employees expect to know what's coming and how it will affect them. 2️⃣ Communicate early and transparently: Germans value transparency. It's important to communicate the reasons for the change, the benefits and the expected outcomes clearly from the outset. Surprises are generally unwelcome. 3️⃣ Involve employees and works councils: Collaboration is key. Works councils have considerable influence in German companies and need to be consulted at an early stage. Employee involvement builds trust and reduces resistance. 4️⃣ Training and development: Providing employees with structured training and resources to help them adapt to change shows that you are investing in their development, reduces anxiety and improves commitment. 5️⃣ Patience and consensus: Decision-making in Germany tends to be consensus-driven, which can slow things down. Take the time to build consensus at all levels to ensure lasting commitment to the change.  6️⃣ Long-term focus: Present change as a long-term investment in the company's success. Germans tend to take the long view, so showing how the change aligns with the company's sustainability and future growth will resonate better. Of course, every company and industry is different, so the approach to managing change may vary. However, understanding these cultural elements can provide a strong foundation for smoother transitions. Individual coaching programmes are more effective than in-house leadership programmes I recently attended an insightful presentation on Ambitious. Qualified. Overlooked: Revealing the Untapped Talent Pool of Women Over 40, a white paper by Advance focusing on the Swiss market. The presentation offered many valuable insights, and I highly recommend reviewing the full paper. This particular graph caught my eye, and I would dare to make a swiping generalisation here and assume it would be true to both women and men globally. - 56% of respondents participated in leadership development programmes, with 35% finding them very helpful. - 38% of respondents received individual coaching, and 60% considered it very helpful. I will let you do the Math. Clearly, coaching is a powerful tool for developing leaders. Another interesting finding from the study: - 57% of women aged 41-45 are satisfied with their career progression. - This compares to 70% of women aged 31-35, and 66% of women over 50. - And before you ask, for those aged 30 and below, satisfaction sits at 73%. 😊 *************************** If you're feeling dissatisfied with your career progression around the midlife mark, let's chat. How to Live and Work in a VUCA World COVID, wars, conflicts, politics—who knows what’s next? Life constantly throws challenges our way. Whether you're in a good place or a tough spot, that will change, like we're in a never-ending rotation program. Personally, 2024 hasn’t been easy. At the start of the year, I faced a lot of challenges: several job changes (which I’m not particularly proud of), burnout like I’d never experienced before, and a period of being in-between jobs that left me anxious about my career. But now, I’ve landed a job I truly love—probably the best one since I left Early Dawn Microfinance Company Ltd. What I’ve learned from all this is that we’re living in a VUCA world—Volatile, Uncertain, Complex, and Ambiguous. The most we can do is give our best, no matter what comes our way. Here are some tips to help you through it. 1) This Too Shall Pass Nothing lasts forever. If things are going well, be grateful. If things are tough, embrace the lessons they bring. Whether good or bad, everything has its time. Before 2019, most of us probably didn’t have many wild stories to share with our grandkids about struggles like our grandparents did. Now? We have COVID, wars, and all sorts of upheavals—plenty of stories to share, hopefully with a brighter ending. 2) Be Agile Come on! last couple of years all we know about AI is that Will Smith eating spaghetti.  Look at what we have right now. AI is everywhere. Whether you were born before the digital age or prefer owls over emails, it’s time to adapt. If you want to survive and thrive in this VUCA world, you need to embrace change. 3) Plan, But Stay Flexible It’s important to have a plan, but don’t cling to it too tightly. Your well-thought-out plans can become obsolete within hours. Flexibility is key. Create a clear vision for what you want, but always be ready to adjust as new challenges or opportunities arise. Having a contingency plan is essential to stay adaptable. 4) Focus on Continuous Learning Lifelong learning is no longer optional in today’s fast-paced world. Keep up with industry trends, emerging technologies, and develop your soft skills like emotional intelligence and communication. Staying informed will help you stay competitive and ahead of the curve. 5) Build Strong Networks A solid network is one of your greatest assets in a VUCA world. Surround yourself with mentors, peers, and thought leaders who can offer advice, support, and fresh perspectives. Building strong relationships helps you navigate challenges more effectively and gives you a reliable support system. #VUCA #Resilience

They are out, the #ICF #Coachingsupervision #competencymodel Thank you Joel DiGirolamo Thomas Tkach Carrie Abner, CAE and all those who have worked diligently on this growing our field. My wish for 2025 - an ICF #credential and approval of programmes as opposed to just CCEs plus SUPERvision even more embedded in credentialing and renewal… ICF have chosen to focus the model on Coaching SUPERvision, however, our faculty at #CoachME note that it can be transferable for SUPERvising mentors, leaders, OD and L&D professionals, trainers, co-coaches, facilitators… Now for a bit of debate and generative thinking. 🤔 I find the phrase ‘coaching the coach’ leads to confusion in the field. We always advocate, right from initial coach training on our Association for Coaching and our ICF Level 1 programmes coaches having coaching for themselves for the experience (of course!). We prefer to say a coaching style of SUPERvision which can be one way to SUPERvise. This discussion came up this week in our #emcc #esqa training for #esia and some of the group were surprised at my stance due to my usually eclectic approach blending, for example somatic work with gestalt approaches and psychodynamic… My take is that if you are coach me on my stuff such as eg a relationships, we may talk about the ways that beliefs or habits play out in my different relationships including with clients and so the topic could come up in SUPERvision with a focus on the business side of coaching work and on the behaviours, ways of being too and yet it is a different focus. Of course, the restorative element of SUPERvision may also shine a light on the topic too. Maybe a dotted line around SUPERvision and coaching the coach, one that is permeable as opposed to being a thick line or division? Of course, in SUPERvision we may also ask for, or a SUPERvisor may offer an opinion or advice from experience or from research and we don’t have to leave with action and accountability (to put the end of a session bluntly). I know Michelle Lucas refers to coaching the coach in a write up as part of her new model too and Julia Carden PhD, PCC, FCIPD has also shared on this this week. How do you strengthen your RESILIENCE? 💪 More and more often, I am hearing from my network and from my coaching clients that they feel OVERWHELMED... ... yes, I also feel the same sometimes ... and if you are in a leadership position, being resilient is absolutely crucial! So, what's the SOLUTION? 🙄 I just spent few days in London with some of my resilient friends... and I thought... it is indeed all about resilience! How we respond to stress... our ability to FACE, OVERCOME and even BE STRENGTHENED by difficult experiences 💫 But HOW can we strength our resilience? 💪 ✳ INCREASE SELF-AWARENESS Being aware of your own emotions, behaviours, needs and desires is key... ... and COACHING is a powerful way to increase self-awareness and help my coaching clients to recognize what matters to them and cope with stressful situations 🚀 ✳ FOCUS ON WHAT YOU CAN INFLUENCE "What is that you can control?"... this is one of the first question I ask my clients when they feel stressed. Stressing out about things outside of your control will only diminish your resilience... instead, FOCUS on what you CAN influence! 🎯 ✳ BE KIND WITH YOURSELF Learning to be kinder to yourself can help with how you feel in different situations. For me is key to focus on wellbeing but also on small steps and realistic goals... and don't forget to REWARD YOURSELF for your achievements, even if they seem small! 💞 ✳ SEEK AND ACCEPT HELP I had my own life's seatbacks and my family and friends have always played a pivotal role in supporting me and coming out stronger. Making connections with TRUSTWORTHY and EMPATHETIC people who will listen to you will help strengthen your resilience... and yes, ACCEPT the HELP being offered! 💫 I believe that putting these elements into PRACTICE in your daily life will help you to CULTIVATE your resilience and learn to STRIVE in the face of challenges 🚀 ... it has certainly helped me 😊

What does strategy implementation mean to employees? Despite the strategic picture being painted by the leaders through their promises of a rosy future, strategy implementation translates to two words to employees… MORE WORK! Not only do they have to continue doing their normal jobs, but now they must also take additional actions to start implementing the new strategy. We are constantly adding to employees' workload without subtracting anything. Best practices from top-performing companies to create the required space to take the right actions include: 💡   Identify the current actions that are now obsolete as you implement the new strategy, such as products that are no longer being sold or customer segments that are no longer being targeted. 💡 Reduce the number of meetings employees have to attend. On average, one-third of meetings do not add value. 💡 Empower employees. Empowerment has been around for many years but takes on a new burst of energy when implementing in a digital world, as numerous policies and procedures have become obsolete, and employees need to be able to work smarter rather than harder. 💡  Enable employees for success by providing them with new skills and techniques, such as data translation, coding, and design thinking. 💡 Ensure employees have the required resources. A digital transformation typically requires moving one-third of the resources within the organization to support employees' taking the right actions. 💡 Allow employees to choose their own actions. When they do, they are up to five times more motivated to take the action. I am excited to speak at the International Coaching Federation (Austria DACH chapter) on 14 May on: "What does it mean to be in right relationship - How to coach relationships." There is always a dream for a relationship, whether emotional, platonic, romantic or organisational. We all long to be loved and belong. But the truth of the matter is that relationships get stuck. ➡ Sometimes our needs change and we find we are in conflict with one another. ➡ Sometimes we lose interest. ➡ Sometimes we outgrow the objective of why we came to exist in the first place. ➡ Sometimes we just need to re-kindle a spark and remember the dream of what brought us together.
