Pro Tip: Stamp your UTM parameters on the Campaign Member record in Salesforce There are two main issues caused by simply syncing your UTM parameters to the Lead/Contact in Salesforce: Storing multiple conversions The problem with storing your UTM parameters on Lead/Contact is that there is no good way to store multiple conversion events from the same Lead/Contact. Some companies will store the "first" and "last" UTM parameter values, which is better than storing just the first values or always overwriting the field with the last value, but it still doesn't solve for Leads/Contacts that convert more than two times. Tying the UTM parameters to a specific campaign The other problem with simply capturing the UTM parameter on Lead/Contact is that you lose the context as to which marketing campaign or initiative the UTM parameters are tied to. For example, let's say you run a webinar and you promote it via email, Google ads, LinkedIn ads, and organically on Twitter/X and LinkedIn. You would want to know exactly where each registration for the webinar came from, but simply storing it on Lead/Contact will work for the very first conversion event of a net new Lead/Contact, but future conversion events will be nearly impossible to track properly without stamping the UTM parameters on the Campaign Member record for that specific webinar. Salesforce won’t invest more in CPQ. The market sentiment says so. Since the launch of RLM (Revenue Lifecycle Management), the market sentiment for CPQ has gone down. People are speculating: → no new advancement → differences b/w RLM and CPQ → CPQ as an outdated tool and more. Here’s the most absurd yet believable speculation: In light of RLM, Salesforce will discontinue CPQ in 2-3 years. But all of this may be just that - speculation. There is nothing to worry, yet. Because RLM isn’t ready to use. It is still in beta. I’ve been getting a lot of queries around - how to migrate from CPQ to RLM. My answer - There is no straight forward way. RevOPs pros are NOT System Admins However, it is nearly impossible to focus on long-term strategy while worrying about: - Downloading and cleaning up GTM data from various sources (and praying it's correct and up-to-date) - Making a mistake in any of the dozens of spreadsheets you are responsible for - Having no reliable visibility beyond a mere sales forecast - Going through the painful revenue planning process for months every year So no, RevOps pros are not system admins, yet their systems are forcing them to invest their precious hours and skills in trying to unify a funnel that is broken.
